    Wow! 31 minutes from opening the box to a ready-to-mix song verse! It's a testament in its own right! I'd guess that your musicianship came before your recording-engineer status. Good Job and thanks! The installation process is usually intimidating to me. You made it look easy! BTW I have Reaper but use Cubase Pro and have never slept into the reaper's path. LOL

    I think you are first supposed to install the Yamaha driver, only then your PC will recognize the audio interface when you plug it via USB. So it's normal that the USB light did not power on at the beginning of the video. Similarly, the firmware update file will only run if you have the interface already connected via USB to your computer (Windows 10 here). Thank you so much for the extremely useful video about this thingy.

    You are an inspiration. I have paid attention to this audio interface for a while, I have a Line 6 UX1 and I am not happy with it. The only thing that concerns me is that I have read more than one time that the Steinberg doesn't have enough headphone output

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  6 лет назад

      The headphone output was a little low on my Sennheiser HD380 phones, so I'd imagine it'd be even lower with higher impedance phones. If it's a problem, you could always use a headphone amp like the little Behringer HA400

    • @NobuoSensei
      @NobuoSensei 6 лет назад

      I have in mind a 35 ohm headphones. Yours are 54 ohms. Will that difference in ohms be noticeable enough in your opinion? Also, I am looking around for a headphone amp that is reasonably good an affordable but that is small and with internal battery so I can move it around, do you know of any?

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  6 лет назад

      That should be fine for headphones. I'm not aware of a battery operated headphone amp. But I'd be interested to see if there is such a thing, and if it can deliver long enough battery life to be worth it. I'll have to look around.

    Great explanatory video, you are very sympathetic! I have a problem with it though, more specifically the interconnection to a Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3. Its hooked up to the front of the UR22 with an RCA to Cinch cable, both are connected to my laptop via usb and yamaha speakers left and right at the back of the audio interface. Now Traktor Pro is giving me a hard time regarding the master control of the controller, I couldn't prelisten the tracks on it or change the volume via master, until I found out that the RCA to Cinch connection is needed. BUT NOW there is no bass coming out of the speakers, I tried it with and without the yamaha steinberg software, I tried different interconnections of master accesses, one time the interface was master, another time the controller (which has a soundcard build into it), and funnily enough every other source like YT for example works fine, bass is present. So I researched more and more and found out that the software inside of my computer might address a nonexistent subwoofer with the bassline...can I change that through the ASIO of the yamaha steinberg software (didn't look like it though -.-), where do I go for it in my laptop, or do I try with Traktor Pro first? What would you suggest, do you know of a problem similar maybe? Thank you for your help, stay tuned!

    I just love you right now for posting this video. Steinberg should do this because they've made their own products so hard to deal with. I know they will be going out of business soon probably because no one is going to want to deal with the many complications you face trying to get their products to work. There are numerous other products that I'm about 99% sure are like a millions times easier to deal with.

    Cheers mate. I've actually never monitored through the DAW.

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  6 лет назад +1

      Now that you've got a good modern computer, you can probably get your latency down low enough to start monitoring through the DAW. I just like it because I get to hear any effects that I have on the track as I record, but there's nothing wrong with direct monitoring either.

    • @JDODify
      @JDODify 6 лет назад

      Cheers - would be handy if you could knock up a quick "how to" at some point for how to reduce your latency to its lowest possible level in Reaper. Reducing buffer sizes, sample rates etc. I just leave mine as default - 'cos I only ever direct monitor having a 20ms latency doesn't bother me much, its just irritating when programming drums.

  • @dillonhamilton2914
    @dillonhamilton2914 5 лет назад +1

    Your first plug in attempt would have worked right away if you had first downloaded the software driver stuff on your computer, then it would have been able to read the interface with that first thing you tried to plug in and would have showed it light up right away for that too. Just FYI. Lol

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  5 лет назад

      Unfortunately, I don't think it would have helped. My USB ports apparently weren't providing enough power. As soon as I gave it a full 5V, it connected without drivers installed. Before that, it wasn't even giving a flashing USB connection light, it was just dead altogether. Maybe it was a particularly sensitive or faulty unit?

    Hi! Thankyou for this great video, it has been very useful. I have two importants questions:
    - You need put the phones pot to the max with a 54 ohms headphones. I have a pair of DT-770 Pro 250 ohms, so that means that I won't listen my headphones at high volume if I need it?
    - Can you use the DI input without using the Hi-Z for electric guitars? Normally it's so annoying to send to the interface a too low gain signal because you have to push the amp sim and sometimes it simply can't, I mean: if you plug your guitar in with Hi-Z disabled you gets peaks all the time? Even if you have very low the gain knob?
    THANK YOU AGAIN!

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  5 лет назад +2

      I would expect a pair of 250 ohm headphones to be a little quieter, but I don't have a pair of phones on hand with that high of impedance. So I can't try it myself and give a definitive answer.
      As for the Hi-Z input, I'd expect it to have plenty of gain on tap. I wouldn't worry about not getting a strong enough signal. You can definitely try the Lo-Z line input, but the difference in input impedance will likely affect the tone. That may or may not be a bad thing, but it's worth a try.

    You need to select 32 samples to get in the 2-3ms latency range. Just bump it back up when you do your mixing to avoid playback errors (pops & clicks).

    • @xmaverickhunterkx
      @xmaverickhunterkx 4 года назад

      Nah, he should have checked the latency after choosing a frequency. The higher the frequency, the lower the latency, it helps the buffer. So that panel was probably showing much less latency after setting it in 48 (I'd recommend at least 96 though).
      Edit: Just in case I double checked his vid, you can see how going 48 lowered his latency both ways by .200 ms or so. Again, 96 makes it much lower, and this one goes up to 192, which is what I would personally use.

      What driver and firmware versions were on the disk? I highly recommend to ALWAYS download drivers and firmware directly from the manufacturer's website. That way you are guaranteed to get the most up-to-date drivers. There is no telling how long ago those drivers were written to that disk. They could be several versions old by the time you open the box. The disk is really only there for those without an internet connection.

    Good day, Sir!
    The video was informative and amusing.
    You kept me interested throughout the duration of the video.
    Anyways, I'd like some suggestion.
    I want to do podcast / stream / record audio in near future, hopefully.
    I am completely clueless regarding how all of this works.
    I was only aware of, or know a little bit about, USB-microphones.
    Which are often times frowned upon by most audiophiles and people with lots of experience and music know-how.
    I was planning to purchase Blue Yeti.
    But my budget allowed me to go a little ahead, emphasis on "little", and perhaps get the "real deal".
    There are not many places I can purchase from.
    I have been watching reviews of different microphones everyday.
    But I can't help but dazzled by the way more crisp sound of a "proper" set-up.
    Of course, I cannot afford that, but anything that comes close to it -for a start-up, would be really great!
    Here is the website that I plan to purchase some kind of set-up from.
    musicguide.com.pk
    I found this.
    Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 ( 2nd gen) + setup (package) at a price I can almost afford.
    My budget is almost 40,000rs.
    If you happen to have some free time on your hands, could you please browse around the site and recommend me a set-up from there?
    Like, most things that would be important for me to record decently.
    Please not that I can only use USB-based audio interface.
    Also, I do not plan to use any musical instruments with it anytime soon.
    As lower as it can get, while maintaining good value for money, is my goal.

      The UR22 comes with Cubase AI and Cubasis LE. Cubase AI is a lite edition of Cubase, with some of the more advanced features unavailable. Cubasis is a DAW for mobile devices. They should both be good options for someone just starting out. Personally, I prefer Reaper but I encourage you to try all of the DAW demos that you can find and choose which is best for your workflow.

    Great regards, if you can tell me which is the better sound card of Steinberg UR22mkII or behringer umc202hd u-fora ... I am interested in and which is better in terms of latencies because I use quite a lot of effects in live .. what do you recommend me for shopping and why: ) and if you have a driver for the mixer behringer qx10002usb i have a problem with popup and now nzm has put the problem to the driver .. the big greeting

      I haven't used the UMC404HD or its drivers, I've only used the UMC22 from the U-Phoria line, and that interface relies on ASIO4ALL drivers instead of dedicated drivers. So I'm not sure how well the UMC404 will perform. The UR22MkII did very well, with nice low latency at its lowest ASIO buffer sizes.

    My headphone out sounds garbled and not sure what exactly is going wrong with it.. I have UR22C, but it is pretty much the same unit. What you made sounds like fun. Rest of it, my unit works fabulously well.. tried lowering the sample rate and the computer seems to handle it well.

    Hi my friend, I have a question, I'll record guitar using a mic'd amp with the Shure sm57, so wich interface is the better choise for me, this one or the Focusrite 2i2?, I want to record two guitars as the same time. Using two mics and both interface inputs. Thanks for your amazing reviews!!!

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  5 лет назад +2

      I recently tried out the 2i2 for recording direct guitar/bass, and its inputs are even hotter than the UR22. I'm not 100% sure that this lack of headroom carries over to the XLR input if you're recording a dynamic mic in front of a raging cranked amplifier, but it was definitely a concern for the direct inputs on both the 2i2 and the UR22.

    when i got my self a UA-4FX from roland the first time that i plugged into my pc it didn't start up. After installing the usb driver the thing powered up. Maybe that's the case with this interface too.

    Hey man, great review! Would you pick this Steinberg over the Roland Rubix 22? Not sure which one to get...

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Honestly, they're really neck-and-neck. They're both solid all-around interfaces. The UR22mkII preamps have just a tiny bit more "personality", but it's really subtle. I don't think that you can go wrong with either.

      @@YHRS Thanks! I may go with the Steinberg, as the variable latency knob seems to be a pretty handy feature. I do like the aesthetics of that Roland a little more though...

    So this needs an external power supply to work? What would you recommend between UR22mkII and 2i2 2nd Gen for mostly recording guitars on the go with my laptop?

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  6 лет назад +1

      I had to plug it into a powered USB hub in order to get any signs of life out of it, but that may be more of an issue with the USB ports on my computer, rather than a problem with the unit itself. I'm not 100% sure. You could probably use a separate USB-->micro USB cable from another port on your laptop to power it. I wish I'd thought to test that before I sent the interface away!
      I haven't used a 2i2 2nd gen yet so I can't compare them directly. Although out of the ~$150 interfaces I've used so far, the Roland Rubix is still in the lead as my favorite. But any of them will be fine. If you've got super hot pickups, then you might run into troubles though.

      Your Home Recording Studio Thanks for the reply! What about the U-Phoria UMC22? With these drivers (BEHRINGER_2902_X64_2.8.40) will it work ok on windows 10 64bit, with latency around 3-4ms? Or its totally random what i'm going to get, so i shouldn't bother and buy a UR22mkII that is guarantee to work with Reaper?

    Why most interfaces don't have the MIX KNOB (input/DAW) like this UR22mkII ?
    This is so useful.

    Have you experimented with mic pres to see if it kills the preamp noise floor these produce? I used to have the 8 channel and sropped recording and then got an itch to start again and I remember these having noise, but I also bought a grace m101.. just curious if you already knew if a good preamp would eliminate any noise that that sits under the sound. Partly why I quit was due to always having to mix out noise. recorded for 15 years strong and one day I just stopped. I still have every waves bundle, api, isotope, etc.. loads of stuff. I added it up long ago and was well over 150k in plugins. But I never bought a higher end decent mic pre to go with it until now.. just crappy art ma 2. And presonus junk... I got so good at editing with all of the plugs that I could neve justify buying one. But I think it will help give a stronger cleaner signal to manipulate.
