I love this guy. All data, no bullshit. Thanks for renewing my faith in....well....this!
Well said
Probably the best audio interface review I've ever seen! Great detail, hard work and lots of thought and effort in this video. Thank you.
Agree. I just discovered this channel. Its quality is super!
it's the JK way
German(?) reviewer for a German product. Top quality stuff. ;)
@@Silatbule May I ask on what platform you have compatibility and driver issues, please? I am curious. I have it on both Windows 10 and Big Sur (I mainly use Big Sur). Thank you
@@mnmleung Hi, it's fine now. I got to the bottom of the issue. I'd migrated my OS to a new SSD just before buying the UR22C and for some reason it affected my USB driver. I re -installed the USB driver for my motherboard and all was good. I'm actually going to delete my original comments as with hindsight it was a little unfair!
The work you do is unparalleled. Simply fantastic! I love how thoroughly you test these interfaces and how plainly you lay it all out for us. You're the first person I point everyone to when I hear they're shopping.
Thank you!
This is the most professional and succinct gear demo I have ever seen on You Tube. Great job!
I appreciate the detail these videos go into, especially when comparing the interface to other interfaces. The integrated DSP is a nice feature.
Thank you for actually measuring things. After going through 15+ video's that just list the specs and maybe do a recording this is a breath of fresh air.
This guy is a pro!! He answered questions I would never have thought to ask. And it’s precisely the buying guide you really need.
this is the best review I've ever seen. Hopefully other reviewers can take some notes from you and get their reviews up to this kind of quality
I've had mine for 9 years, still going strong!
Julian has the best dynamic range 🤓
Intelligent reviewer...no blah..He delivers what everybody is expecting👍😊
Dank des internen DSP-Prozessors und des 32-Bit-Busses vollbringt diese Audiokarte wahre Wunder. Meine Erwartungen haben sich erfüllt.
Finaly found a usefull review, not like other 100500+ reviews just describing knobs and inputs during 10 minutes. Thank you Julian!
I honestly can't think of anything else you could have covered, and in great detail nonetheless. I hate it when I see "reviews" that basically just read the official specs... That's how it's done people! Keep up the good work :)
did not cover the DA converters dynamic range and response
Hands down the best review I have seen I years. 100% thorough. I just wish that all the audio interface manufacturers could send you all their products for review and pay you for doing so. You could then review all interfaces on the market. High end as well as the cheaper models. I am in the marked for a new interface so a test of USB 3 vs Thunderbolt 2 for RME, UA, Antelope, Presonus and driver support etc would be much appreciated. Especially low end vs High end interface latency. Well done! Keep up the good work:)
Terrific overview of the UR22C; couldn't have been more informative. Thank you!
Damn I just got this interface and was looking for reviews of it. And damn was not expecting such an in depth review. Wow.
That is the best ever review I found on internet for Steiberg audio interface, very professional and organized information, thank you so much!
Thank you for your detail and deep review. I've bought UR22C based on many reviews as well as yours, and I'm very satisfied with this audio-interface. Despite of relative low mic input dynamic range, it is more than enough for my dynamic Sure SM-58 and SM-57 mics with acceptable noise level.
Glad to hear this! As I'm planning to buy this device mainly to record voice & guitar (monitored with FX from the UR22C) to Cubase, with SM-58 & SM-57 mics. After 5 months since your comment, is the UR22C still working well with your SM-58 & SM-57 mics? Thanks!
@@Steven-do2dp Yes, I can confirm that my SM-57 instrumental and SM-58 vocal mic's working well with UR22C. On video below you can hear the vocal trough SM-58, and all guitars were recorded with help of UR22C audio-interface. By the way, all guitars effects - were provided by UR22C internal DSP. ruclips.net/video/A2uHYJ_rbao/видео.html
@@radioraj1 Hey thanks for your answer! Good singing and cool guitar solo sound! Keep up the good work!
You are the best Julian! So composed and unbiased you have been throughout the video!
What an excellent review. Telling us what we want to know, great video work, we can see everything clearly, and extensive testing. This really helped me. Keep going julian :-)
Watched your video before picking one of these up today... was really torn between it and the 2i2, in moving away from a dedicated mixing console and PCI sound card. Have to say though, I am really impressed with how well it performs. Using my Shure SRH440's (44 ohm) the phones volume was just to the left of 12 o'clock, and the noise floor was dead silent between audio passages on playback. Plenty powerful enough for an SM57 without a Cloudlifter, but it did round things out nicely when added and let me turn the gain down a bit too. Love your content - thank you!
Excellent review. Considering (IMO) that streamers are an every growing market for budget audio gear, it is nice to see more companies adding "real time" audio processing into smaller units. Thanks for the time you put in to create such thorough test & information.
This was the review I was looking for, thanks for your work!
Omg, measurements! Way more value than all those marketing information. Thank you for the good work!
Hi Julian. Another great video and production. The 32Bit may be FP within compatible software, although it seems odd that you don’t see it in the ASIO control panel. I’ve had certain interfaces that show up as 32FP with Nuendo but not in other ASIO compliant software. It will, as you’ve said, at least operate internally at 32Bit. Which will really help with summing and rounding things off for anything that may utilise its hardware (presumably a DSP). Again, great video. Cheers, Dave.
Great reviews Krauss. I bought the audient Evo 4 from your testing as I am still waiting on a Motu M4 which I had pre-ordered over 5 weeks ago. Some sites have 25th August, but other companies have put it back to sept 25th. Evo turned up today and I am very happy. Originally was going to sell it as soon as motu turns up but I think it'll end up in my laptop bag. Keep it up. Much appreciated.
dont forget about this module. Perfect integration with Cubase DAW. Which is important for Cubase users like myself. Thanks Julian!
Thank you. This was very useful. I rely like the attention to detail and the measurements. Also the having a look inside to check the build quality.
loved the review ... i hit it up after you didnt say what impedance you would want to see on the headphones in the big comparison, so now i got the information i was searching and im very happy that i even learned new stuff about the Interface, thanks alot.
This was incredibly in-depth. Thank you!
No BS here 👍 pure review. Thank you
Getting those specks on the gear is next level! Helps you make a better decision on what to buy.
just a heads up from a slightly disgruntled UR816C owner. If you use those onboard effects then the midi stability goes out the window. In fact I've not been able to use the midi inputs at all due to this problem. You will need a separate midi interface/usb cable as the one on the unit isn't fit for purpose (both mac and pc drivers)
I have been using UR22 since its first version. I also use and 816C for my studio. Each version performed extremely well for me. I also use NI Komplete audio which is also an excellent interface. As far as noise floor is concerned all of them performed at a level where there is any difference in practical usage. Most of the German made interfaces are of extremely good quality. Moreover, UR22C comes with this DSP effects which is no one provides at that price point and the effects are very good. It saves my day when artist asks for a near real-time monitoring with reverb.
Super Reviews machst du, Julian. Danke!
Wonderful presentation Bro👍
It's full of clarity and there is no rooms for further confusions!
Thank You..Keep going.
Very informative and concise review! Excellent work
Great review Julian Krause .. merci beaucoup .. Tolle Bewertung ..!
Dude you look so chill and down to earth
Thanks for all the technical details! Much better than those wishy-washy subjective equipment reviews that are so plentiful.
Genius review and I rarely ever say something like this
Thank you Dany!
Very professional presentation, Julian. Well done.
Amazingly informative review. Instant subscriber!
I just got my UR44C. Prior to this, I was using a Presonus AudioBox and my computer was not handling Spectrasonics Keyscapes at all. It would clip when I was using the plugin. UR44C greatly improved the performance, though I have determined I need to upgrade my computer anyway. I am happy with this product so far.
Are you still happy with the ur44c?
I just got one of these based on your review. I had to come back and watch now it arrived and man, I realise how dumb I am. I was plugging my guitar into channel 1 and getting a lot of hiss! Now I realise it's because I should be using input 2! DURRRR
This was extremely helpful. Thank you Julian.
wow! Really professional and detailed review!
What a splendid and comprehensive review. Actually, helped me make my purchase decision. Thank you, Julian.
Meanwhile, here's a drinking game suggestion. One shot for every time Julian says UR22C! No, I don't need the AA!
Very nice review... I was on the fence buying this interface, but I think that now I need to be on the lookout for another Type-C USB interface.. -tnx for the nice review Julian K. -AP.
I love this review. straight to the point
Best reviewer for this interface..Thank you
I really like your review, you have earn a subscription. I am looking a device for my guitar and Ipad, but haven't decided yet.
Really thorough. Great job!
If you ever find the time to make a video on how you test I will click on link at least 21 times. I love how thoroughly you test. Would love to learn your measuring. Your SM57 - SM7b video is so great.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely brilliant review, thank you so much!
Julian your video are very helpful for to upgrade my hardware, thanks a lot
Super video for a person starting out
Wow Thks guy, that's what i called a review ! Very useful, i subscribe immediatly
The guy knows what he's talking about. Great review.
awesome as always, Julian! Thanks
How can this quality review even be free. Hilarious. Thank you!
brilliant reiew... just great info and no yapping ... well done
Just bought this today, had the focusrite Scarlett 2i2 it had the worst ground loop ever. Thanks for the good review
These are the best reviews man
You're the best man, a thousand thanks!
Awesome your explanation & presentation. Thanks a lot .
Thanks for a great review! Just FYI, the 32-bit setting appears to be available only through supported DAWs (e.g. Cubase) and not accessible through the native driver settings. Not sure how meaningful it is given the relatively high EIN covering up any extra bit-resolution.
I got tired of random chord adapters just to record my Korg SV22 (s) 88 key... into my Imac desktop. So out of frustration I just went "all in" and bought this thing. Wow. Looks like I lucked out and got a good little unit!
Please do a Versus with the 2i2 Gen 3! :)
Yess
Which is better?

Excellent review on the UR22C, I got the mk2 among my interface collection. It's a really solid and simple interface.
Nice I got the same model but it's hard to record in 192kHz I could only use 96 unless i turn off room reverb during recordings 😭
Im having terrible driver issues... But the hardwares very sturdy and nice
@@jellolon8435 just use Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver 2.0.3 · 7,1 MB
@@aloahe4807 I did a lot of research, reinstallations and tried a lot. Dont remember exactly how i did it but it works perfectly well now! Thanks

Great review! Lots of good detail.
great review keep going
Awesome videos Julian! thank you :)
liked and subscribed!
Thank you for your great reviews. Please give more details about the software that is included, it's a huge part of making a decision.
It would have been a much bigger deal if this interface captured in 32 bit FLOAT as opposed to 32 bit integer. With float recording, you wouldnt have to worry about clipping because you could just adjust the gains in post with no signal quality loss. 32 bit float needs to become the norm for all audio gear, not just the high end field recording equipment.
You cannot build a converter that doesn't clip. If there are interfaces that advertise this, that's BS. Neither would you be able to just digital gain in post since you'll amplify your noise floor either way.
Top notch review !
Incredible review, thank you! So many reviews gloss over very important details, like the RTL measurement, which is very important for monitoring live instruments with effects in the DAW.
The pre amp noise is also audible when you do the voice over with the shure microphone
It's interesting that Steinberg bundles this interface with 32 Ohm headphones in the recording pack.
The issue of the UR22C bitrate being limited to 24 bits, might be due to the driver still being from January and not yet optimized for the new hardware. Due to personal experience, the UR22 Mk II heavily depends on an external preamp. It’s own preamps simply don’t yield the power to get the best out of a dynamic microphone, like the RØDE Procaster, which I use, if you need a very low self-noise in the recording. As the UR22C uses the same preamps, there cannot be an improvement here. I hoped for a better preamp. Like this, i won’t buy the new one.
Perfect review... informative 🙌🙌🙌👍❤️🌹
Hello Julian. This was an amazing review! I'm about to buy the UR44C version. Would you say there are any differences between the UR22C and UR44C regarding the dynamic range or preamp noise? Thanks for your reply :)
Great review. Thank you!
Excellent review, wow!
What about the main outputs ? I record in a pro studio and mix at home or the random recital (stereo mic)....99% of my time is listening to the outputs....Great review btw....
Great review, can't wait for the headphone amp comparison video. Any chance you can do a review on the Presonus Studio 24c?
I really want to know this too.. asap...
Presonus Studio 24c !!!
Wow this was great . Great Review
Thanks!!! Very helpful!
Great review! I just wanted to point out a possible misunderstanding... The manual for this interface states the phones maximum output level at 15 mW + 15mW, 40 ohms. Where did you get the 91 ohms figure? Steinberg even sells a recording bundle package with headphones rated at 33 ohms. download.steinberg.net/downloads_hardware/UR-C/Manuals/UR22C_Operation_Manual_English.pdf
I'm guessing he measured it.
Please do a full comparison table for the inputs and the main outputs (like the headphone outputs) please......!!!!
Doesn't matter if people don't understand the numbers the green to red colors are just gold..!!!
I know it's late but I need your help I've encountered this problem where by when I connect the interface to my pc the usb white light doesn't light up, only the red lights keep lighting up on and off continuously, and on my pc the interface appears to be unknown so I tried downloading USB drivers for the Interface & installed them but nothing changed, someone help me.
Thank you for this great review. All info - no B.S. :)
Really nice man i like this vidéo. :-)
You said that the snr is not the best, compared to other interfaces. does that interface povide more gain than other interfaces?
I have read that yamaha uses its well known D pre amplifiers
Other people or manufactures uses will known midas preamplifier or sabre ess
Is there a statement which of them is better?
I bought this..and this is one of the best audio interface.
How are the noise levels practically?
Is it noticable in practice?
@@akshaykumar-iw6du nope.
It is a pity that the manufacturers dont allow separate cue output for headphones in budget interfaces. This could be a single switch, I guess, but what a change in use.
i bought it for the sm7b thx :)
