I watched this ep /very/ high and it's so aggressively scary it felt like a targeted attack.
the jumpscare at the very end of the post-credits scene was the scariest thing i've seen all year

Like, there's obviously the horror of a rogue A.I. stealing your body, but this series made the idea even more physically horrifying by taking it to the realm of gorehouse movies. Not only is it taking your body, it's taking it in the form of mutilation.
I just got the reference at 2:10 that "Bergara vest" is leather vest, because The Professor always calls Ryan a beef boy.
I did not think Shane could top the Asmodeus song but MY GOODNESS. I love the way that the Holo-Professor's voice sounds, especially the "objections about being SHUCKED" part, and the instrumentals work so well - the guitar towards the end sounds incredible.
Not to mention how awesome the “GoodNight!” Sounded with the same type of effects!!

I took to holoProf myself, but The Substitute is very good and probably more fitting thematically.
That seems to be the name the Tumblr side of the fandom’s adopted for him! TvTropes is calling him the Replacement, but I prefer Substitute - it just fits better with the academic theme.
i for one think the holo professor/ substitute deserves a little skin. as a treat!!! he has done nothing wrong and i love him for it

This plot is very much giving me 'Welcome to Nightvale' feels and I love that! This evil Professor and good Professor is reminding me of Cecil from Nightvale and Kevin from Desert Bluffs.

I’m just now realizing that this entire plot line is something of a reference to the Max Headroom incident- the original Max Headroom character originated in a story about a TV host AI created from the memories of an investigative reporter who was wrongly presumed dead. Kinda like how the Substitute was created from the Professor’s memories after the Prof “died”. This whole thing was Shane’s excuse to roleplay as max headroom and damn he did a good job

I have not watched a single episode of Puppet History why is there a blue puppet hologram talking about cutting open and wearing Ryan like a skin suit WHY IS RYAN TIED UP
Basically from what I can understand the actual blue puppet died, and Mr.hologram took his place but wants to be real, so he wants to skin Ryan and use his body as a flesh suit and eat jellybeans

i really recommend you watch it, but i made a whole lore thing if you don't plan to watch it ever
ok so the whole thing about puppet history is that, no matter how many points either of them get, the guest contestant is ALWAYS going to win, and ryan never wins. but at the end of season 4, ryan makes a deal with actual satan to get the coveted cup (the trophy the winner gets). this is a good time to explain the genie part of the lore. see, apparently, the professor (the blue puppet) at some point found a genie lamp, and wished for the ability to travel through time, which is obviously where he got the info to make this game show. but there is a side effect. every time he travels through time, the guest that sings at the end of each episode was at some point not a singing puppet and the actual thing it's supposed to be. but through the professors sheer presence, it was turned into a singing puppet. and the genie absolutely hates this, and uses his powers to try and follow the professor through time and kill him. back to the season 4 finale. in sheer panic, the professor wishes to be transported to the cretaceous period. he teleports, and unfortunately is immediately eaten by a t-rex. he's not dead though, we'll come back to this later. anyway, through his "death", all the singing puppets are transported to puppet purgatory. hologram professor here shows up, does a lil funeral or something for the real professor, and disappears. reappearing puppet guest actual god shows up, says "you can send one puppet to argue against your purgatory punishment." and all them stupid ass puppets vote for hologram professor to go, since he has all of previous professors knowledge. unfortunately, since he has all of previous professors knowledge, he yearns to eat jelly beans. but he's a hologram, so he can't eat jellybeans. which is where he gets the idea to give ryan a puppet vape to knock him out, and then skin him alive, crawl in, and eat jellybeans!! professor hologram finishes his song and goes to get his knife. as he's doing this, ryan bergara finds the very first puppet from the very first episode, a cute little plague spreading rat. he asks the rat to bite him out of the rope, and he'll get the rat a really good dinner. but this is where the cliffhanger is, and we go into the season 5 finale. this is where we go back to the cretaceous period. see, by the dino eating the real professor, it and its mate were also turned into puppets, voiced by previous guests. and then they literally lay the professor out in an egg. professor does a cute lil prehistoric version of puppet history about the dinos. and then, when it gets up to the extinction of the dinos, he's like "AHHAHA SEE NOTHING HAPPENED YOU GUYS STICK AROUND FOREVER" and then the dinos are like "is our son lying to us??" so the professor goes ahead and tells them about the extinction event, since he assumes that they're gonna be bones, considering the chance that they're in the exact time they go extinct is unlikely. unfortunately, unlikely does not mean impossible, and the comet comes down in a fucking sick ass song. like literally it's so cool they say "this is the end of history" it's SO COOL. anyway back to lore. i don't remember how, but real professor is transported back to present time. but hologram professor is still there. for this to make sense, i need to mention that there was an episode about people in prague being murdered by being thrown out of windows. and the whole episode there was a window in the back that they were like "you could throw something out of there!" and it just slowly pans to the window. and then goes back to the episode. ryan grabs hologram professor by the neck and yeets the hologram out. and that's probably the last episode of season 5!! can't wait for season 6!! thank you for reading
