In Massive Monster's 'Cult of the Lamb,' you play as the titular lamb, saved from sacrifice and brought under the employ of 'The One Who Waits.' You must find followers, farm devotion and form the ultimate cult, in your mission to take on the Bishops of the Old Faith and free your new otherworldly patron from their eternal prison.
I absolutely fell in love with this game when I first played it. The aesthetic, the sounds, the characters. I don't typically play this sort of game at all, but the world of it totally drew me in just from the trailers and I knew I had to try it. And I am so glad I did!
In classic Stupendium style, this project started out small and then utterly snowballed, so I want to give a gargantuan thank you not just to my Patrons, but to everyone else who helped get this project past the finish line. Dominic, Seánie, Dan, Liz. Thank you all!
I'm super proud of this one. I think lyrically it's one of my favourites I've written for a long time. It's certainly the most intricate I have ever attempted with rhythm and structure. I hope it has paid off!

Holy shit, the way it gets more and more manic, more and more deranged as it goes on till the song's basically SNARLING at you like a rabid dog. Once you're in the cult, once it owns you, it doesn't need to pretend. It doesn't need to deceive you. It drops the act and shows you what you pledged yourself to. "You all decided to convert. So tell me, why are you so nervous?"
That lyric is genius because it's the cult gaslighting you into thinking you knew all along what you were getting into, when you really didn't. Makes you feel guilty for questioning anything.
The most terrifying thing about cults is that you WANT the lies to be true... and the cult tells you you're right to never question them.

The first line has a double meaning which I just love. Original Sin refers to the first murder in the bible; but it also refers to the fact the cult is doing all the same bad things as those it is trying to overthrow.

I like how Stupendium always take the more "Villanous" side of the game and puts that as the focus of the song.
Like the COTL Rap from JT shows the Lamb as simply US, so we obviously cheer him on, while Stupes actually slaps that concept in the face and says "uhh you do know that this guy makes animal sacrifices"

And while there's still a 1 in 10 chance of being sacrificed for YOUR god, many of them are probably better off than how you found them, given the number of slaves to the spiders, sacrifices, etc you encounter around the maps.

i love the detail of the dark circles under everyones eyes in the second chorus, a common cult tactic is to overwork and deprive followers of sleep to leave them too tired to question their belief

And it has occurred to me while listening to this again after having played more, that 'plated at the feast' has double meaning. In a spot at the table for a feast... or being made into the meal on the plates.

Also the voice affect on the second "deep in the dark of the woods line" is splendidly creepy

I appreciate how you kept the Lamb dark. Most media doesn't portray the sheep as being completely cognizant of they're actions. But here you have them fully breaking down the gospel, whether out of piety or power. How you constantly get the spirit and flavor of the games in all of your works is always amazing.
I want to add most FAN animations make it seem that way, even in the original animations the lamb knows exactly what he's doing, same goes here
The Cult's nature has a bit of flexibility on just _how_ brutal it is, depending on the player's choice of Doctrines and when you exercise them, and you don't _have_ to brutally sacrifice your followers for power every time Sacrifice of the Flesh comes off cooldown. But the version of the Cult depicted here is clearly what the One Who Waits has in mind (and presumably what his own Cult was like when he was the fifth Bishop), and any depiction of "Cult of the Lamb" is remiss if it fails to acknowledge this.

but the Lamb is unquestionably evil either way, there is no way to *not* be a villain, this is what most fan adaptations miss, the Lamb isnt being used by an evil force, they *are* the evil force

The other deities don't seem like they treat their people much better, and I mean you get followers by giving them a better life than the one they had surviving with the other cults. The Lamb is NOT a good person, but they're arguably the lesser evil out of everything else in the woods.

There's a demonic, rumbling or echoing undertone to every word he speaks, even from the first verse. It gets more obvious as the song goes along, and becomes super obvious with the Flock being Fleeced line, but it's always there.

The "why are you so nervous" is amazing, but I want to tall about the facial expressions lambert makes up to that line
The two before have upper/lower lids, or at least lines (the ones right before looks determined, then confused/condescending) and then, boom. No upper lids. It's like the eyes were cropped out, flipped 180, and slapped back on.
It looks unsettling, adding to the nervousness that's already coming off, and I love it!
Nice description. Personally, I think it makes the Lamb look kinda like he's laughing, except that in this case it's not even remotely funny.
It works well.
Also, one of the most simple yet effective ways to make a character look creepy/scary/disturbing is to simply remove their eyebrows.

alliteration is basically the underappreciated cousin of rhyming

"Sowing seeds precede a Reaping" is such an underrated line. It' s a simple illustration of how cults draw people in with support and "love", but only to use them in the future.
That's precisely why churches do so much community service to help the poor, the orphans, widows, and homeless.
It's not out of charity, it is so they have a fresh supply of desperate and hopeless warm bodies that owe them their lives.
It's hard to refuse being brainwashed when it's either that or starve to death in the freezing cold.
And it's easy to give up everything when you have nothing.

And Clauneck's passage is a particularly well-crafted torrent of syllables even by Stupendium standards. The fact that it's very obviously in Clauneck's accent despite the fact that the game character dpesn't speak words is just the icing on the cake.
Well now. I had previously considered "Slide into the Void" the most complicated and intricate lyrics of any song I'd ever heard with it's ridiculously layered references.. or that you managed to properly rhyme "phenomenon we keep" and "Panopticon be breached". But this. Holy shit. I believe you have cemented your legacy as the best lyricist, period.

Completely agree that Stupendium is amazing at lyrics, but I definitely recommend looking up Aesop Rock (I recommend starting with Rings or Dorks, as most of his songs are extremely esoteric and filled with metaphor) as a strong contender for 'best lyricist'.
It's mainly the subject matter, but "Open the Sky" is by far my favorite. It's what got me to binge Stupendium.. I'd been looking into AI earlier and it's a bit too easy seeing people facing similar issues if the workings of the human mind are ever truly sorted out.

There's more to writing verse than lyrical miracle empirical sphericals
In the third chorus the dude being sacrificed is the one saying “deep in the dark in the woods where secrets sleep” in a tiny voice then everyone else continues the rest I hear it every time and it is amazing with the attention to detail
i love how the chorus and background singing gets louder with each verse like the cult is growing
I honestly expect stupendium to dance around in a lamb costume but this is even better. The animation is exquisite
I bet they still have that goat suit from the goat simulator song, they could've used it but probably didn't to better fit the vibe of the Game.
What an exceptionally fitting song! I like how it shows the way your furso- I mean your standin went from being rescued, indoctriated, and finally sacrificed. Everything got more Zealous over the course of the song, which is just perfect for this game!

I am so enthralled by the slow descent into madness. The colours get darker and more red, the Lamb more overtly controlling, and even Stupe's voice becomes more and more unhinged as the song goes on!

@@PerovNigma i kinda guessed it was him, but he looked a bit too different then in a pizza the action so i assumed i was wrong, but that now I know that its supposed to be cosmo I actually SEE the details linking them.
Also I didn't even know cosmo had a name till now, I just assumed it was stupendium too cause when he first appeared he was introduced as a sponsored attraction.
But its nice to know we might be able to sacrifice stupes to the one who waits... cause we may be able to satiate the beast, but theres a little sacrifice that it entails.
It’s crazy how he was able to keep the same happy-sounding beat throughout the whole song but by the end it be so different and oddly scary. The whole “for the sheep may be the shepherd, but the flock is being fleeced” line is INSANE! All I can say is, Stupendium, I will never outgrow your music!

Yeah, the fact the happy tone never quite wavered but just became more and more clearly a facade over the course of the song really captured things more then if it had just become openly malicious.

everyone talks about the super well-written lyrics (as they should, stupendium's lyrical skills are easily the best on youtube; i dont think ive ever felt like a single lyric in any of their songs was out of place or forced, its super impressive), but i dont hear enough about those amazing vocal harmonies in the chorus. one of stupendium's best choruses, it's ridiculously catchy and i could literally listen to it all day

This storytelling was awesome! The way your character went from being terrified of death and being sacrificed to being so brainwashed and indoctrinated he willingly let the Lamb horrifically kill him gave me chills.
Shoot, I didn't even notice that. Got thrown off by the transition to the pig being saved from the centepede, but it is the bird from the beginning!

Can we just take a second to admire the background audio of all his music??? Each time a new song comes out, the undertones always give an environmental feel. If you listen to this song (around 3:40 for example) you can hear crickets keeping the beat. Showing that you're in nature while this is all happening, aka, truly in the cult of the lamb.
I love how the song slowly delves further into the dark side.
The first part tries to be happy and welcoming, with the feasts, celebration, and all seems well other than the breakdown of Kill-ecting.
The second part delves deeper and let’s murder through, but at least tries to make it seem like a good place to be, but delves into tarot cards with morals and the position the Lamb is in.
The third part goes full in on that you can’t leave and it’s all evil with sacrifices and rituals. And the final few lines is all evil, but the wool over the cult member’s eyes blinds them
but then again that depends on who's playing the game, I NEVER sacrifice my followers because my morals do not allow me to do so
It's also worth noting that one of the doctrines you can choose is "Cannibalism", which means your festivals/rituals will literally have a random member of the cult devoured by the other members.

So earwormy in the best of ways. Such a cute OC too. When I said so damn good earlier, I listened to it in the last day more than 20 times. I haven't done that for one of your songs since, hmm it was either Slide into the Void, or The Fine Print. The mix of cute animation, forboding lyrics, the A-Class voicework, just so damn good! I love your voice in many of these, especially with the Muppets with your Swedish Chef, and Honeydew. The last 2 minutes of this song especially slay, leading to the sacrifice, and the Lamb voice at the end. Plus the wonderful part about the heretic burning and dark patron wanting the cultists to buy T-Shirts, just, wow. Sorry to rant, just been a bit since I used Adobe Audition to make a loop for a song to play in the background when I was writing for a Pathfinder 2nd edition campaign for the main antagonist cum protagonist. The players will decide if evil wins or evil wins in that campaign, but will they choose the right evil or try and defeat both the well meaning evil, or the avaricious and voracious evil... I look forward to if you ever do another for The Cult of the Lamb, or any other game, and hope the Algorithm treats this well. I shared it a bunch of times as well.

@@cosmicwyvern150 it's actually pretty eazy to tell them apart, but when I watched for the first few times I thought the animators from the original game tried a diffrent art style to fit with stupes. It didn't even cross my mind that this might actually be animated by stupes and his team instead of the original team of cult of the lamb until I realised "wait a minute, I didn't see a sponsorship banner..."
And although I did say it's eazy to tell them apart, it's only cause the characters are a bit longer then they're supposed to be and I watched "nook line and sinker" a few too many times.
I genuenly thought the cult of the lamb team made this animation until I notised a lack of "this video was sponsored by cult of the lamb" at the start or end. If that's the first thing I think of, you succeeded in my eyes
That drop on the last chorus was some has gotten some of the HARDEST out of me, seriously it's incredibly addictive great job on that one !

I think my favourite part of this song is Clauneck, and yet I haven't seen anyone else talking about his part. It's so good - it is profoundly weird, unsettling, and fascinating - as it should be - and it leaves the Lamb feeling... alone - which I think definitely contributes towards why they are getting so unhinged towards the end of the song, compared to their relatively relaxed demeanour at the start.

Absolutely love the song and the lyrics and how it gets darker and darker with each verse. This is how cults operate, pulling you in with promises and sugarcoated words until you are too far in to understand what damning mistake you have made. The wool has been pulled over your eyes as you follow like a sheep, uncaring if for shearing or to slaughter.

This got me into a cult of the lamb phase in September last year but I never actually played the game until 2 days ago, the use of "Tell me Lamb, Do you believe in destiny immutable" as an actual song lyric is such a good touch! That's the line that got stuck in my head so now I know it's a canon line it makes the song 10x better
I just caught the irony of the lamb rescuing his new follower from a sacrificial mound... later to sacrifice him to himself
What makes it worse is that bird follower might have volunteered to be sacrificed, only to regret it when it was too late... just like the bunny earlier in the song.
The fact that you have made so many great songs isn't surprising, but the fact that you do so consistently is amazing. Keep up the good work man.
Let's all take a sec to just appreciate how much love Stupes puts in each of their songs, they're all absolutely phenomenal!!! The animation is flawless. The lyrics flow together perfectly and the words all make sense. It's illegal to be this skilled.

Flaw: The mouths at the final chorus exist. I hate it. Its just so weird seeing their mouths move while the rest of their body is obscured.

The card dealer bird is laying down some existentioal questions on such a fluent manner that i honestly cant focus on the words. It just sounds so perfect. Good voice acting, good lyrics, good sound design. My thanks to the whole team for making this video.
