If anyone has any info on where to buy Staking Tool Sets for Vintage Pocket watches (that are not mentioned in this video), please share! ( I got mine off of eBay 20+ years ago for around $69!!) Thanks for watching and for your encouraging/helpful feedback!
Thank you sir. Just learning about watchmaking myself, and the multitude of cool tools associated with it. I’ve heard of these staking sets but wasn’t quite sure of how they are used. I look forward to your series.
Thankyou for this. Looking forward to the 'series'. From Scotland and enjoy the 'pleasures' that Pocket Watches bring . I've just bought a Boley Inverto set and am at the beginning of my 'Staking Set Journey', so I'll be avidly following each video as they come out. Best wishes.
Just won a bid on a K&D 18 inverto. Looks like a good set. Complete except for two reamers. Cant wait til it gets here Looking forward to cleaning it all up and working with it. And thanx for making these vids. Always something new to learn
Greetings … I have been looking for a comprehensive series of instructional videos on staking tools. Thank you!!! … would you be able to create some videos on vintage jeweling tools?
I just purchased a K&D Special set off Ebay, it’s in dire need of some TLC and I’m looking forward to restoring it have no idea how old it is but best guess is 1910-1920. It has the lever lock and not the wheel lock. Is there a place to check the serial numbers on the bottom or is that part of the model number?
You are welcome! You might want to keep looking on eBay, as they put "new" ones up all the time. You also could purchase a "not so good" set and add punches as you are able. They are often sold individually. You could look up "Dave's Watch Parts" , he also sells individual staking tool parts. Thanks for watching!
I have removed small amounts of rust from the bridges. If the parts are nickel plated, you can lightly polish the rust off using some type of really fine paste a microfiber cloth. The only problem I have come across is if the HAIRSPRING is rusted, the watch won't run right. You would have to find a donor watch to get the hairspring from (that matches your watch grade of course). Thanks for watching!
You could use a different balance but it has to have the matching hairspring that came with you new balance. You should not mix balances and hairsprings. Each hairspring is matched to the original balance.
@@myhobbiesarenotcheapthanks so i can put a new haispring and balance from a watch in another one? if the beat is the same? a watchmaker told me once that some are interchangeble even when some balances are visually slightly diffrent, different weight, so they say i can remove it and put in a new watch for example a complete balance from an orient into a seiko..or a cauny balance in a dogma
nice i thought i was watiching the bunns specla chanel but then i thought that quality was better , looked to the name but i was in a diferent chanlel funny, hapened to me again aahahah

This is a most useful series. Thank you for taking the time to elucidate the functionality of the staking set, Sir.

It looks like you got a set that’s been very well cared for, they’re not all in such great shape after years of use.
I’ve used this set a lot and it still works great.

I don't have a jeweling set yet when I get one i will. Thanks for the comment.
More videos on specific use cases for staking tools would be helpful also … thanks again

I’m not sure about the numbers. I know that there is a pdf on the K&D on line that would give you more information about your set.
Thanks for your helpful video. I am now looking for a set but items on EBay are pretty expensive and a number of sets are not in good shape.

Is it possible to safely remove rust from an antique Waltham pocket watch? Thanks!!!
