That, but radio stations and record labels are very commonly known to speed up and minorly edit the original songs to make a "more entertaining" radio version This can be seen in Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street; the original is a lot more laid back and chill, but the radio version is very high pitched

Is this simply a compilation of the BASF 4 tape? This sounds nothing like a chrome tape, even if worn out, and the songs have no crackling sound from vinyl, broadcast from radio, maybe the orginal boombox had an pmx filter for the static, thus the lack of it on TMS, but I think the song itself is from a tape, not a record Edit: It should be a full mixtape, right? The original cassette was a BASF 90 Cro2, would Darius have recorded 43 minutes on one side, and 3 on the other instead of cutting out one song, especially after the struggle of cataloguing every single one and having a 90 min chrome tape which sells for like a gram of gold's worth today...

In 25:48 the song is the ghost buster main theme song must be the background instruments maybe another take but with only some of the instruments and with the people saying ghost buster + is this a video to make fun of mysterious songs on the internet or is these songs really real mysterious songs on the internet?
These are songs that were on the mixtape that The Mysterious Song was found on. These were simply songs Darius saved to his tape that he liked, one happened to be unidentified. The legitimacy of this recording itself is arguable, but the songs certainly are not
I think this doesn't exist, because we would not record the DJ talking when we were taping songs from the radio. We would sit in front of the cassette recorder with "Record" and "Pause" engaged, and react swiftly to only record when the song played. I'm sure with the DJ voice the mysterious song wouldn't be that much of a mystery even if he or she would have been cryptic about it.
Interesting. I love things like this which keep people guessing. Is it genuine? Is it some unsigned artist who faked a recording in his bedroom, bouncing a digital recording down to tape, back to digital, then back to tape several times to give it that old & grainy tone? I only question this because I've done similar things having spent over a decade in a recording studio, recording & producing a few hundred songs. Sometimes you just want that retro sound, so you bounce a digital recording down to an old 4 track, then back to digital, before normalising at 0db. There are a few things that makes me question the legitimacy of the mystery song: firstly, the lack of depth at the bass end, then there's the guitar which sounds particularly tinny - likely a cheap amp, cheap mic - or both, & not good mixing, suggesting a home (rather than studio) recording. It sounds as though either the mic is too close to the amp, & "on axis" (pointing right in the middle of the cone), or a line has been taken out the back of the amp & plugged straight into the recording device. There's no "air" about it. Finally, there's not much compression on the beats compared to other tracks recorded here. Tape gives you natural compression, & works particularly well on drums, eg, it smooths out the aggressive "attack" on a snare drum, making it much easier on the ears. In this regard, "the mystery track" stands out like a sore thumb. Overall impression, the track isn't mastered. These are just observations I make based on years of experience, & having made every mistake in the book when it comes to mixing & mastering music. Anyway, I know I'm late to the party, but glad I found this. I'll listen to the whole playlist on the weekend whilst out with family. I'll torture my kids with it.😂
Might be, but my theory is that it was made as a cry for help in disguise from desperate East-German people. The song has a very strong East-German feel to it, and you can interpret the lyrics in a way that they are about being born into a country you don't like, can't leave and can't tell anyone about your feelings, instead you must fake being ok or even happy with it, and finally, just make do. I believe that this was made by some East German musicians who had access to professional equipment (e.g. because they were studio musicians for pop singers) and the vocals were later overdubbed with amateur equipment in a garage or cellar. This song then somehow got into the hands of an NDR journalist who was stationed in the GDR and he had it played on that show.
@@20windfisch11 5 years later: the wall falls That theory is a bit "movie-like" I must say, but considering Paul Baskerville (the NDR DJ) did state that he believed that this was a one-time demo played by an NDR presenter, it is plausible that it was a favour carried out by an NDR presenter
This could have been a live performance or a song request broadcasted on the radio. The fact of how they have no records, names, or anything makes me think it could be a live performance. Also it kind of sounds like Bind the Wind for me.

This is a big fake! We're all betrayed here! The cassette has just not been completely recorded. And a radio show is moderated. That is not the case here. Numerous songs were simply chased through a filter and the Check.mp3 integrated.
When we made mixtapes, we stopped taping during the presenter's interjections, or commercials, then resumed again when the music came back on. We wanted the tape to be only music.

But in summary both cassettes are good I would say :d
I really like the look of those old BASF and if the tape is in good condition, well there you go.

Omg there's Master And Servent on it woooowwwww
i just listened to this whole thing
I'd place the broadcast date as being around September 1984 given the timing of the most recent mainstream tracks on it
Several songs on the tape correlate with playlists from NDR's _Der Club_ and _Nachtclub_ blocks for October and November '84, so it's certainly possible.
You can finally write Subways of Your Mind (FEX) on the tape :)
Hell yeah i still come back to this even though most are here for like the wind im here because all of these songs are fucking amazing

Whether this is THE legit infamous mixtape or not its a great recreation otherwise
Thanks MDC. This certainly puts the song in a timespace of 82-86.

I know this Mixtape was uplouded like 3 years ago but I thought Ghostbusters song come Out in 1984
NGL this slaps.
Mixtape was really popular on the VHS era
also to those who think some songs sound a little off it's because they are the extended versions
That, but radio stations and record labels are very commonly known to speed up and minorly edit the original songs to make a "more entertaining" radio version
This can be seen in Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street; the original is a lot more laid back and chill, but the radio version is very high pitched
22:27 why is I wear my sun glasses at night is a mysterious song where it’s a well known 80s song
This is the original tape rip with the songs that got recorded from the radio. Look at the pinned comment
only 1 of the songs is the mysterious one
Why does depeche mode have a sample of like the wind? At the start it says "like like" and it sounds a lot like the lost song. Prob not the first to notice but might as well say it.
wtf this tape goes hard

Is this simply a compilation of the BASF 4 tape? This sounds nothing like a chrome tape, even if worn out, and the songs have no crackling sound from vinyl, broadcast from radio, maybe the orginal boombox had an pmx filter for the static, thus the lack of it on TMS, but I think the song itself is from a tape, not a record
Edit: It should be a full mixtape, right? The original cassette was a BASF 90 Cro2, would Darius have recorded 43 minutes on one side, and 3 on the other instead of cutting out one song, especially after the struggle of cataloguing every single one and having a 90 min chrome tape which sells for like a gram of gold's worth today...
Like the wind sounds so edited in it’s funny
It's not though
12:22 is that the girl who made the song called I want to dance with somebody
different woman. the vocalist there is called Deborah "Debbe" Lynn Cole. I Want To Dance With Somebody was by Whitney Houston

This is the original mixtape from which the most mysterious song on the internet (blind the wind/like the wind) was found on.
These are songs that were on the mixtape that The Mysterious Song was found on. These were simply songs Darius saved to his tape that he liked, one happened to be unidentified. The legitimacy of this recording itself is arguable, but the songs certainly are not
Its from the soundtrack.
22:23 It's not Vice City,Radio Track?
yes, from Wave 103
Has the community looked into Depeche Mode? Sounds similar to the TMS singer
Nah, I'm pretty sure it's a Joy Division demo... /s

Hey do you think you can upload this tape with the dj voices? Much appreciated!
@@20windfisch11 oh ok
Hold on, was TMMSOTI on an actual mixtape or is this a fan creation?
Yes; the original tape is called 4|1, as that appeared at the top of its playlist.
any chance we can get a HQ rip of this mixtape?
If you remove one song it would go heart in a c90 tape if you cut it to a and b side
ever have i wondered, what is the recorders voice?
Yeah! We never got to meet Darius!
Ghost busters was made in 84...
The final version was, this sounds a bit different. Possible this was something early before the actual movie had legs
Isürks made that fantastic song track "Blind The Wind" in that year 1984.
@@jencitordai yes it's most likely a demo just like what Paul stated.
There are some great songs
I'll torture my kids with it.😂
So this is Cassette 4
Lyrics:
(Opening solo)
Like the wind, you came here runnin’
Change the consequence of leavin’
There’s no space
There’s no tomorrow
There’s no sense for munication
(Chorus)
Check it in, check it out. the sun will never shine
Better know anyway, in the subways of your mind
Like the wind
You’re going somewhere
Let a smile be your companion
There’s no place
And there’s no sorrow
Here are the young and restless dreamin’
(Chorus)
Check it in, check it out. The sun will never shine
Better know anyway, in the subways of your mind
(Opening solo repeated)
(Chorus)
Check it in, check it out. The sun will never shine
Better know anyway, in the subways of your mind
(Fading out from here)
Check it in, check it out. In the summer blues
Let it in, let in out. It’s the real excuse.

Plot twist: the most mysterious song on the internet is made by Darius so is just a troll
@@20windfisch11 5 years later: the wall falls
That theory is a bit "movie-like" I must say, but considering Paul Baskerville (the NDR DJ) did state that he believed that this was a one-time demo played by an NDR presenter, it is plausible that it was a favour carried out by an NDR presenter
oh hey a lapfox fan

edit: i brain-rotted too hard and forgot Darius was commonly used as a name whoops

The reason you here no DJ is because Darius S, the guy who recorded and ripped the tape, intentionally cut out the DJ voices
Darius cutted DJ voice and pauses

at the end of like the wind you can breifly hear someone take a breath which is one of the djs
When we made mixtapes, we stopped taping during the presenter's interjections, or commercials, then resumed again when the music came back on. We wanted the tape to be only music.
