These plugs were made by a man named Larry. Some will remember him. If you have a story leave them in the comments. The Title is very true. His name is Boots
I think I just saw you guys out south of the bridge this afternoon. Hope you got into them. I was in the c-dory trying to keep the boat pointed north all by myself in that wind😂😂
Derek, what about doing an ILWU Salmon Derby? Between all the members in Tacoma alone that fish plus add in Seattle and Everett locals… hell the local has golf scrambles and softball games so why no a salmon tournament?
Maybe you weren't there at the right time. Packed when I was there in the late 80s and early 90s. Some days are just busier than others. I often think there are less now than back then.
Catching fish on plugs is a fun way to catch fish without the drag of a flasher. Kind of lame to pull them up with a 6 pound weight. Might as well just attach the plug straight to a downrigger and pull them up with the electric motor.
I kind of agree with you. I would much rather fight a fish on a regular rod. I won’t be switching on my boat anytime soon but it is fun to see and be part of this old school technique.
NWC what should I be doing to catch these kings jigging mooching trolling flashers etc everybody is trolling flashers at pt defiance but im only catching kings on jigs what am doing wrong? Ive been meatlining ace hi plugs and nothing, trolling flashers with all kinds of lures and no success, please help!
@@kingchaser-c4t just going off your comment. Speed up and fish very close to the bottom. No flasher just the plug 20ft or more back from the weight. 5-6 lb weights. Put the time in and you will start catching.

I think you nailed it. I can’t tell you how many times the bite has turned on in the middle of a big tide. Metalines definitely out fish riggers when that happens. Plus a few had success doing it and either built rods for others or got others started.

Try in front of nisqually 80-120 ft of water 60-80 on the wire. You will see the boats. The night bite is great with a high tide lined up. The deeper you go into the sound the tougher the bite will be, Westport fish are dumb and easy sometimes. South south especially you need bright and scent. Something to piss them off.
Are you guys actually making the plugs yourselves or are you modifying factory plugs? I have been turning yellow cedar plugs for a couple years now. It's pretty fun and they work well. What's the backstory on the Bob Salatinl plug? Did Boits actually get it from him or is it just kind of joke about the great white? Love the meatline content.
@@gavinforseth8100 Bob Is Boots Dad and the plugs were made by a gentleman no longer with us named Larry for Boots Dad. These literally are 1 of 1 unique very special priceless plugs. Thanks so much for the watch and kind words. I should do a video having boots explain the history better than I just did.
Thanks team NWC hope to see you guys at pt defiance this year, ill be out there in a 14' salty boat. We need more boots and you videos 🙏
Great video, thanks for posting
Nice work guy!

I think that use to be a thing. That could be cool again
Thanks for showing everyone how to meat line good going dude good going
Thanks for the feedback. It’s comments like these that keep me doing more. Next video I will get a lot more detailed how. Thank again Jack.
Nice work guys!
Thanks
I have so many of those old plugs bags and bags of em 😅 never tried em
Salmon fishing off defiance was never that packed when I was a kid back in the early 90s.

Meat riding in the title is wild
Need to make a Bob salantino plug/ meatline shirt!
@@Rowlandoutdoors done and done. Thanks for the idea. I’m going hit you up when I get them done to get your address so I can send you the first one.

Whos driving the boat and watching for hazards?

i’m the guy with the big fish you show it was just over 23lbs
Why is meatlining so popular in the pt defiance area. Is it because the current is strong and you need to fish right off the bottom?
I think you nailed it. I can’t tell you how many times the bite has turned on in the middle of a big tide. Metalines definitely out fish riggers when that happens. Plus a few had success doing it and either built rods for others or got others started.
So main reason would be that these fish hang right on bottom and with meat lines it’s easy to bounce bottom every few mins keeping you in the zone

Any chance you’re talking about Larry Palermo who made these plugs?
@@jazn4lyfe104 you got it.
@@NorthwestCatch nice. That’s my wife’s gpa and actually have one of his plugs. Was curious how he rigged these up back. Nice video!
@@jazn4lyfe104 very cool.
Awesome video!! Do you guys ever run the meat lines south into 13? I’m not doing so well adapting Westport techniques to the south sound this year..
