Most of my family/ancestors are interred there., as are the families/ancestors of the people with whom I grew up all those decades ago.

I had one of those big camcorders, made by Sharp. You put a full size vhs directly in the machine. If you filmed for an extended period of time you might be hurting the next day!
Growing up in the late 80's my parents had one also, if i remember correctly they paid almost a grand for it, and was made by RCA. My parents use to always tell me you do such a great job recording, so we want you to do it. Just to find out yrs later i wasn't necessarily any good at recording, they just didn't want to hold the damn cinder block themselves lol.
My parents prepaid for the Graves and stones, I guess that is what people did in those days . Not me I don't want my loved ones to visit ( or not visit) my grave, set me on fire and spread my ashes to the sea and wind, and I will be there always for my loved ones.
Carobinson Robinson well certainly, by pre-purchasing their resting places and stones, they saved you and your siblings (if you have any) the cost to purchase them. So I would say they were darn considerate 👍

Words of wisdom. Over the years all of my passed relatives had chosen cremation ahead of time. I shall be cremated also when my time comes not fearing being engulfed by the retort flames.

I love Scott’s postings!!! Met him once before one of his dearly departed tours. He was so down to Earth 🌍! Went with a group of friends who were from LA. We were blown away by the tour and facts and stories we learned about celebs lives and deaths. 💀 They took us to a cemetery. My friends had never been to it despite having lived in LA their entire lives. I highly recommend taking a trip to LA to go on his tour! His tour alone makes the trip worth it!
1994 was the last time I was in Hollywood Forever; I also remember seeing the earthquake damage. At least the cemetery has made a great comeback in the last 20 years.

I thought Jayne Mansfield is buried in Pennsylvania at the cemetery her family uses? It's even listed as her official burial site and just last night in the comments of a RUclips video I read an account of a resident of the town where he saw her daughter, Mariska Hargitay, at her grave while he was there.
I was stationed at Fort Ord, Ca. when the earthquake hit on top of a hill or mountain whatever it was, there was a large stadium below. I watched the big tall lights swaying back & forth. There was a guy trying to drive a car, that was zig zagging back & forth. There was a guy for some reson at the front door just standing there, if the building had caved in ...that wouldn't have been good. For days afterward there were after shocks. I had a video on it, loaned it to someone and of course never got it back but I'll never forget this white car was under the long bridge that collapsed...all you could see was the trunk, a huge block of concret was on top of what was the car. Whom ever was inside never knew what hit them. ..May they all rest in peace that died that day.💖💔💖
So sad to see the "Coffin Liquor" on the floors the mausoleum. Now at least they put money into it. Hollywood should've had a perpetual funeral funding set up for their classic stars and donated to these cemeteries. I wonder if they did.
Scott: do you recall a white wooden mausoleum there when it was Hollywood Memorial? It was empty and the doors of each crypt was hanging open? This was back in the 1980s. I recall in the north east corner of the cemetery.
SM, watching a few of your videos lately, and noticed that you commented on having a jillion photos, films and other stuff all jammed onto your computer hard drive. (I assume you meant only one computer.) Rather than hear you later sadly lament how you lost all of that via some sudden electronic mishap one day, I figured it was very important to warn you NEVER to permanently store all those precious eggs in one basket. You really should convert all of them to disk, and label them. It keeps your puter powder dry and leaves it running like a top without all that other jazz in the way. Of course disregard my dull and boring advice if you have already done so or plan to, but if not then grab a bunch of blanks and start clearing out that drive!

I lived in LA at the same time, during the earthquake, and used to wander around here many times. I remember the yellow stained glass ceilings being broken, and the vaults practically hanging open because the covers had come loose and were sitting crooked. It was so sad to see what disrepair everything was in there. Although I am not a fan at how commercialized the place has now become, I am grateful for the new company who came in and fixed everything and gave these people stories and a dignified place to be visited. Who knows. Maybe these people still enjoy a good party. But it's weird. Thank you for sharing.
planthi80 Yes. It is beautiful. And actually, from what I heard, Judy Garland was just moved there, from New York. (Don’t know if that’s true.) And Fred Armison SNL, Portlandia, recently bought a plot there. (I hope he doesn’t have to use his for at least a million years from now!) I have family who has a business next door, and every time we visit them, I always make up an excuse to be able to go to the cemetery and just walk around.
We had a video camera like that at that time. The the zooming and sound gave me flashbacks lol. Very interesting video though. Outside was cleaner than the inside. They did a beautiful job of fixing and cleaning it since then. Isn't that the same building that David White and his son are interred? And it's always nice to say hello to Darla Hood & Carl Switzer. This cemetery was badly neglected for decades, long before the Northridge earthquake. At some point, the strip of lawn between the cemetery walls and the street was sold off for commercial development, further cheapening the feel of the place. New owners eventually took over and the last time I was there in around 2000, it seemed to be in a better state of repair. The owners have generated additional income by turning the place into an event location and by actively encouraging TV and movie filming. Not sure I would want my loved ones' final resting place turned into an outdoor movie theater or location for social events, but that's what they've done.
I was 3.5 miles from the Northridge epicenter. The block walls were the first to go down. It doesn't surprise me that the mausoleums were damage and condemned.

Hello Scott: My son and I took your Manson tour about a month ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I worked in Hollywood for over thirty years on TV shows and I thought of a story you may be interested in. One of the shows that I worked on was “Mama’s Family” for two seasons. One of the creators of that series was a guy named Dick Clair who had been a sitcom writer for some time and also on Carol Burnett Show. Anyway when he died he put in His will that he be frozen at that place in Pasadena . Years ago I ran across a detailed account of exactly what happened from the moment that he died. Anyway he was scheduled to receive a lot of royalties from things that he had done over the years. His relatives who were to share in his will became really pissed when they found out that those funds would be used to take care of his head or whatever was left of him. Perhaps you may find this interesting. Please delete this after you read. JC
When I die I dont want my remains Isolated from assimilating back into the ecosystem. Not ashes in a jar or filed away like that in some creepy wall. Either burnt and scattered, or the other elements assimilate me back in please.
Great video! I’ve been to HF every time I’ve been in LA but have never been in the dome! I guess I just thought it was part of the main office and none in there have ever been too friendly. Man, I’m sad now!

It had become very run down but under new mgmt they restored it to its former glory. Lots of old time movie stars buried there.

That’s not perpetually cared for. I understand the flood but otherwise just sad in the mausoleum.
I remember this earthquake. the worst I had ever lived through. Now the cemetery looks a lot better. Glad they restored the mausoleum.

Cemetery is now beautiful and vibrant. They conduct various tours, show movies at night and special events. Great place to visit.

It is cheap, if you consider William Powell paid $25,000, for Jean Harlow and her mother's crypt in the mausoleum in 1937.
My grandfather's last name was DeMille..
In the late fifties...he got a letter from Cecil B. DeMille...my grandfather was on Cecil's family tree.

Every year, they have a Dia De Los Muertos ceremony and it is a lot of fun and beautiful.
Roughly around 6:36, thereabouts, parts of the 1983 horror flick, "One Dark Night", was filmed. In the movie, sections of both mausoleums were used.

And Fred Armison SNL, Portlandia, recently bought a plot there. (I hope he doesn’t have to use his for at least a million years from now!) I have family who has a business next door, and every time we visit them, I always make up an excuse to be able to go to the cemetery and just walk around.

We had a video camera like that at that time. The the zooming and sound gave me flashbacks lol. Very interesting video though. Outside was cleaner than the inside. They did a beautiful job of fixing and cleaning it since then. Isn't that the same building that David White and his son are interred? And it's always nice to say hello to Darla Hood & Carl Switzer. This cemetery was badly neglected for decades, long before the Northridge earthquake. At some point, the strip of lawn between the cemetery walls and the street was sold off for commercial development, further cheapening the feel of the place. New owners eventually took over and the last time I was there in around 2000, it seemed to be in a better state of repair. The owners have generated additional income by turning the place into an event location and by actively encouraging TV and movie filming. Not sure I would want my loved ones' final resting place turned into an outdoor movie theater or location for social events, but that's what they've done.
I was 3.5 miles from the Northridge epicenter. The block walls were the first to go down. It doesn't surprise me that the mausoleums were damage and condemned.

I believe Tom Mcloughlin shot scenes for his 1983 film, One Dark Night in this very mausoleum. Such a beautiful cemetery and mausoleum.

Hello Scott: My son and I took your Manson tour about a month ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I worked in Hollywood for over thirty years on TV shows and I thought of a story you may be interested in. One of the shows that I worked on was “Mama’s Family” for two seasons. One of the creators of that series was a guy named Dick Clair who had been a sitcom writer for some time and also on Carol Burnett Show. Anyway when he died he put in His will that he be frozen at that place in Pasadena . Years ago I ran across a detailed account of exactly what happened from the moment that he died. Anyway he was scheduled to receive a lot of royalties from things that he had done over the years. His relatives who were to share in his will became really pissed when they found out that those funds would be used to take care of his head or whatever was left of him. Great video! I’ve been to HF every time I’ve been in LA but have never been in the dome! I guess I just thought it was part of the main office and none in there have ever been too friendly. Man, I’m sad now!
