"Tuning my Guitar" How I wished the producers for the Woodstock movie had included one of her songs from her set list. That awesome voice! Who can belt out like that with so much emotion and plain rawness of voice like her! A guitar and one voice in front of thousands of people! A few days ago I watched her full set from Woodstock Did not know it existed! Loved it! Yesterday I went back, thinking it was from RUclips, to watch again And I cannot find it anywhere now! I should have saved it! Does anyone have the link to the video, showing the entire set list? Rest in Peace sweet angel. Even though you were underrated by the general public, however musicians over the decades, those who had the privilege to see your concerts, and your other 1000's of fans, like me, know what a gifted singer / songwriter you were. Sad because of your passing, people are beginning to wake up to your music, instead of when you were here with us. Oh well. Better late than never I guess. Thank God for streaming services like RUclips! I know some of the more popular & current singers know of your talent. Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift come to mind. ❤☮🕊
I was watching her performance of Beautiful People from Woodstock two months ago and like you I cannot find it anywhere. Such a great moment that should have been in the movie.
That Voice! That raspy, beautifully baby sweet, angelic, half singing, half talking, urgent, whispering then soaring, indescribably one-of-a-kind, hers and hers alone - - And I LOVE that little bow at the end! The original hippie chick femme folksinger was called Melanie!
She was star then and star now. I remember this night like it was yesterday. Some say as we get older, we revert to our passed younger years, they may be right. I sincerly hope I spend the rest of my days remebering the night I saw Melanie in Bethel. That night set the stage for next 57 years of my life.
Our group was invited to Woodstock, but residing in Frankfurt, Germany we could not go because transport (ship) was unaffordable for us then young artists. We met Melanie in 1977 when she was touring Queensland at the same time as us. Everywhere our Tschaika Cossacks went Melanie had either just been or was due to be there shortly. We met up for a little chat and that was it.
R.I.P Melanie if you were nervous that day, you certainly covered it up well. A great performance, and you only got better. I didn’t know you but you made me feel I did and you evoke memories I have that make me feel melancholy yet joyful. You will never missed.
Amazing...how such a large, powerful and expressive voice could come from such a petite, innocent-faced girl...she just got up there and turned those people on their ears. 🎸🎤☮️✌️❤️
What a great lady. I never really knew her name until she did "Brand New Key" but I became a fan since that caused me to get to know more about her. In interviews she's done she seems like a very unpretentious lady that one would really enjoy knowing. Heck! I'd love to date her (in a morally correct manner).
I WAS 9 YRS OLD FIRST WOODSTOCK I WAS AWARE OF IT. IF I COULD HAVE GONE I WOULD HAVE. I WAS A LITTLE HIPPY IN GRADE SCHOOL. I LOVE LISTENING TO SONGS BEFORE MY TIME. THEY DON'T WRITE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO
You're the same age as my middle-uncle who actually wanted to hitchhike to the Woodstock festival, lol, which he wishes he could've attended. I agree with you about your view on music. What passes for "music" these days is a joke in comparison. No synthesizers or computer-made sounds back in the day, just raw talent with real voices and actual instruments.
wavygr No never did join. We were pretty much trying hard to stay cool and smoking doobies, lsd, not getting any sleep. How could anyone? I remember the one guy slashing a guy in the eye. A guy falling from the towers, and people breaking glass in some house. No, we never saw that steer. I'm surprised you got any food because we couldn't find any but grapes. But that was the end of Missouri concerts.
❤❤❤❤ A wonderful and creative Soul who had a toolbox full of words and knew how to make them a song.....she was an absolute Verbal Genius....little catchy phrases like....I LOOKED SO FAR...I COULD NO SEE OR....BEAUTY CRYS OUT TO EVERYONE SO VERY FEW EVER HEAR HER SING.....OR....WE WERE SO CLOSE THERE WAS NO ROOM WE BLED INSIDE EACH OTHERS WOUNDS......and on and on she went...amazing insight bottled up in every song....she will be very much missed but her songs and her Memory will live on....
it's cool when she does 'beautiful people' she slips in 'wet'. beautiful wet people. that moment is too cool. there is apparently a CD package containing every performance recorded that weekend.I googled it. can't afford it, but it's out there.
Scottie Baxter one of my favourite performances there...and as you said so nervous.....but her nervousness made it so damn more beautiful......💜💛💙....real feelings of really being alive.
born in the 50s, grew up listening to janis, Joan, Joni, Carole, Carley, love them all, but Melanie was my fav, her lyrics/guitar/voice, just something extra special and I think because she was not as well known, made me like her more & felt kinda groovy about it, I quit eating meat on my 14th bday because of her, "I don't eat animals", the only song of hers that I didn't like was the only one that most ppl knew her for (brand new key) saw her a couple of times, both times I chatted w/ her, she was just sweet/easy, very cute smile..met Joan & Joni, they were not very friendly, but Melanie, very sweet

Gorgeous pop singer...perhaps a bit underrated....her cover about ruby tuesday remains my fav and her cover about mister 🥁 man is much better than one original to me
She was 18 and had no one with her. No manager. . . .and they made her mother, who came with her, stay at the motel where they were choppering in the performers because they were only letting performers and their managers on the choppers. She was alone and had no backstage pass and they kept pulling her aside and telling her she was not supposed to be back there. I'll bet that all was more than a little daunting to an 18 year old girl.
I HAD A CHANCE TO GO SET UP WOODSTOCK 2. RIGHT AFTER A DEAD SHOW I WORKED. A GUY I LET STAY IN MY RV WAS JUMPING ON A PLANE TO SET IT UP. I WAS TO BUSY IN LAS VEGAS AT THE TIME
hey there Mr 88dukecoupe... question. A few days ago I "watched" the full video set list of Melanie at Woodstock Now I cant find it! OMG, I am born 1964 in East Germany under the f.... communist. My cousin recorded all the song via West-Berlin radio stations. I grow older, in 1974, I was 10, he plaid this song with the large tape roll band machines. I could not understand any word. Now I live in America. Nice to listen and to know what Melanie sings.
Came to pay my respects and say rest in peace to a talented woman
She played her heart out and deserves all the compliments in the world for her Woodstock performance which should have been included in the movie.
The movie failed to capture the magic of that first night.
Maybe for some reason they couldn’t get the go ahead to put it in the movie is my guess.
I alway thouhgt the movie was a CSNY promotion, dont get me wrong i love csny but Mellanie and other artist where left out
Yeah it should have been in the movie
She was an singerwho could make covers better than the original.... Remember Ruby Tuesday... Mr Tambourine man and many oters
