RIP Melanie. I have the 45 record of Peace Will Come and have several live versions on CD. The same for Lay Down. A vastly underrated singer and songwriter. Her music will live on forever.
It's a shame that Melanie was not as widely recognized as many of her contemporaries such as Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. She has the voice of an angel, & there's a sweetness & positivity in her songs, & that was definitely needed at that time (it is definitely needed now)
She said she was actually too nice for the times! That's sad! But watching her sing now when she has just recently passed I know she was telling the truth! So real and down to earth and good!
My generation. I’m old now but still driven by the love and the music I experienced in the 60’s. Beautiful voice! Beautifully composed songs. What else can I say? The voice of that age, more relevant now than ever ❤️❤️❤️🌈
I can see the roots, as in the beginnings, of the Melanie we all know and love showing here. I can only Thank God for her hard work becoming fully "Melanie". She has saved lives, literally, with her music. She is a lyricist extraordinaire, and has sheltered us all in one way or another. Melanie has a true heart for humanity... Thank you Melanie for pouring yourself out as you have (and still do) for us! Your music is Timeless, and even your earliest songs still stand on their own having never lost their power to hold, to help, to empower... and we love you for it. It's as you have said, "if you let my voice in, we will have a relationship forever"!
✌️🪷🩷 Beautiful Melanie ~ 🙏🕉️💞 I LOVED her as a little kid. 4? Especially Ring the Living Bell. I Wish I Was a Farmer. Yes, Brand New Key. Still do. So much spirit, joy, power, wisdom. A voice that will always be alive. Thank you Beautiful People Melanie. Thank you so much.
O gentle lady, beautified with the moon-locket of dazzling splendor ; Much Thanks for sharing your ambrosial musical experience with U.S. And the world.
This performance of Beautiful People feels really engaging as Melanie combines strong emotions of joy, passion, love and sincerity with story telling lyrics that speak directly to and include the audience. The eye contact and nodding really spell it out and compel me to feel a part of the audience and a beautiful people too.
I love Melanie. then and now .There is an odd intriguing quality to her young voice. there are not very many artists that are still as active as she is today. I love the Janis Ian reference in the into. it made me. chuckle . both of them are wonderful and shaped me as a song writer and person
I think one of the qualities of Melanie's performance that is so attractive, evidenced, for instance in this video as well as others such as the London performance of "Bobo's Party", is the incredible energy that she generates while performing. Everything is touched by it - the vocals, the volume, the tone of her voice, everything exudes that energy and you can't get away from it....it draws you in, rivets you to every word. There's something almost narcotic about it. I really can't say that about any performance I've seen of Janice Ian...in fact, I've always thought her performances were generally quite sleepy. I don't mean to be unkind. Janice Ian's voice had a beauty all its own, but I think Melanie performed in a realm apart. Watch her performance of "Candles in the Rain" with the Edwin Hawkins Singers, and if you can't feel that Melanie energy, better check your pulse, you might not have one.
...and don't forget those enchanting eyes and her beautiful smile.... and that young, plaintive voice! She hypnotizes with her song and she 'loves' you with that cherubic personality... and, yes... the magic in those eyes and smile... She is a beauty!
you probably only watch her videos, and never saw Janis Ian in a live concert, b/c you'd be stunned by what an amazing guitar player she is. Even my brother, who was not a fan, or too familiar with her work, was shocked by her musicianship after a show at the now defunct The Bottom Line in NYC,
I still enjoy her music, her music helped us all get through the tumultuous early '70s. Her voice sounds just as great as any that came out Laurel Canyon. I think she should be in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame
A lot of people came out of the Greenwich Village Folk Scene of the 1960s, many went on to be legends, I would put Melanie on that list, even though she might not be as well known as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, etc, she has a powerful set of vocal chords, & she is a good guitarist.
Every time I listen to different versions of " Lay Down" it touch's my soul, I love all of your music, to my beautiful lady with the beautiful eyes and voice !!!✌️❣️
Beautiful People was one of the first songs I heared from her. - A long long time ago. But not forgotten. It's a big gift to see her in this video. Thanks for uploading! Love and Peace Greetings from Germany. P.S. Don't forget: Music unites all nations!
For me this is truly amazing what a talent she had it all her eyes wow they emit so much light in this video her facial expressions glow with so much youthful energy her performance at such a young age is truly wow. She had a long stretch well into the late 70, of amazing quality performances great albums filled with great songs. Melanie sang from the heart she is the most under rated performer from the 60,s . She really had a big impact on me she taught me so much through her songs Melanie God bless you ,and thanks for all you gave to me and everyone else. She gave it her all always that,s what try to hard means she never held back.
I can't get over how much her voice improved over the years. this doesn't even sound like the Melanie I fell in love with. Her voice was incredible in the seventies.
Yes, it took a couple of years for her to realize she could just sound like herself and that's what people would respond to best. The change from the early years was indeed remarkable. As she says, she went out to sound like various people - Holiday, Piaf, Garland, Bessie Smith, Lotte Lenya - and "what came out (eventually) was . . . Melanie".
Melanie, thank you for sharing these rare and old videos, and for telling what Janis told you behind the stage! I have tremendous respect for both of you ladies: you for your powerful, strong and intense delivery of your songs, Janis for her wonderful playing and singing. Both of you have a wonderful talent for songwriting and you gave the world songs that will go into history forever. Other great female writers of that time we admire are Chi Coltrane (fantastic songs on her debut album), Carole King (same story), Aretha Franklin, Joan Baez, Judee Sill (so sad she passed away), Janis Joplin (same)... I guess you met at least some of them. Did you meet Janis Joplin during your Woodstock concert? Best regards from the Netherlands
"Trying hard", blessed & branded you with that distinct & beautiful vibrato. I'm pretty sure Marc Bolan must have borrowed this to get the T. Rex sound. (One wonders)
Not too much has changed in this crazy world since Melanie wrote this song. Unfortunately, to many people choose look for at ugly side of life instead of the beautiful people around them.
PS: i LOVE 12-strings;have played them far more many years than 6-string... wish i could have 1 here in Thailand but the humid tropical island air is so hard on guitar strings (as it is, i break 1-3 strings each and every gig!!!) and there is no place on the island that sells good strings, must drive to our provincial capital 80 km away
I always wondered why she dressed like it was winter year round. Never seen a picture of her in jeans or shorts or anything else besides what looks like a robe.
On some television appearance Melanie said that she appeared on the Tonight Show as early as 1963 or some thing. I know that most of the Tonight Show were wiped but is there any evidence of that appearance? It would be interesting to contrast how she sounded in 1963 and the 1970s
Melanie, Melanie, Melanie.... You go on that 12 String! You ripped it up! You are God's Only Daughter! I am trying to remember if I've ever saw you play a 12 string in all these years? This must have been Pre your most famous Goya Guitar that was run over...Ouch...I am sure you cried..... I cried when you told us what happened..... As far as Janis Ian is concerned I like Janis Ian but she quit and came back but unfortunately got ripped off by her handlers.....Melanie you are natural and real. Janis Ian could have never achieved what you have done over the years and would be dead by now if she had your Live Singing Schedule. You are a Genuine Authentic Super Woman Singer! .....Some nights I felt that you truly lived the Nickel Song....one amazing concert night after night year after year you gave it all and continue to do so......You were and still are the true Babe Rainbow Super Human Singing Machine!!!! God Bless you and God Bless your health and Beau Jarrod who gives his all for you.... You are truly blessed to have had Peter and your wonderful family.... I miss you very much and always pray for your health and long life so you and Beau can continue to play your music and play and play and play.......Connie made it to 101 and so can you! God Bless you.....Love forever and ever into eternity.....George
Janis Ian was probably upset that you had stronger voice then hers, not to say Janis Ian's voice wasn't beautiful in it's soft nature. I wonder if Janis said, "you try too hard" it in a frustrated manner.
Melanie...{[(did we find"a daughter?"in young Cyrus...Tell me you did not father her from an "achey,breaky Heart...)]}...pse Advise--->>>(you "Golden-throat-ed Warbler)...
I cannot believe Melanie is not more recognised. Been a fan since 1969 and she has some truly wonderful songs xxx
RIP Melanie. I have the 45 record of Peace Will Come and have several live versions on CD. The same for Lay Down. A vastly underrated singer and songwriter. Her music will live on forever.
Make no mistake, Melanie is still a major force in the real music world.
Her music will be with us for eternity.
It's a shame that Melanie was not as widely recognized as many of her contemporaries such as Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. She has the voice of an angel, & there's a sweetness & positivity in her songs, & that was definitely needed at that time (it is definitely needed now)
It's usually the underdogs, the more obscure artists that are much more talented anyway.
She said she was actually too nice for the times! That's sad! But watching her sing now when she has just recently passed I know she was telling the truth! So real and down to earth and good!
She lived a sedate life. Married for 42 years 3 kids. Better than Joplin. Had the misfortune of living a long non tragic life.
I agree with all you say. I’m a lifelong Rolling Stones fan but Melanie’s version of Ruby Tuesday is better than the Stones’ version.
My generation. I’m old now but still driven by the love and the music I experienced in the 60’s. Beautiful voice! Beautifully composed songs. What else can I say? The voice of that age, more relevant now than ever ❤️❤️❤️🌈

Daria Moreland, The way you described
MELANIE here is exactly the way I would
have, Great Stuff. ~
Such a positive and spirited young lady putting her talents on display! wonderful!
✌️🪷🩷 Beautiful Melanie ~ 🙏🕉️💞
I LOVED her as a little kid. 4? Especially Ring the Living Bell. I Wish I Was a Farmer. Yes, Brand New Key. Still do.
So much spirit, joy, power, wisdom. A voice that will always be alive. Thank you Beautiful People Melanie. Thank you so much.
Alexander Beetle does it I think.
Just honestly putting herself out there for us to enjoy, Thank's Melanie
Part of us who are Awakened and so was she !!❤

Now, if you could learn to write grammatically correct sentence structure, you'd be ahead of the game!
I bet Cyndi Lauper was inspired by Melanie. Both are from New York and both possess(ed) a distinctive hoarse warble full of emotion...

So we'll put and true
She seems fearless, but I heard her say she had performance anxiety.
Joe Giuffrida nothing to do with Janice Ian, although Janice's at 17 album was a beautiful masterpiece in itself
you probably only watch her videos, and never saw Janis Ian in a live concert, b/c you'd be stunned by what an amazing guitar player she is. Even my brother, who was not a fan, or too familiar with her work, was shocked by her musicianship after a show at the now defunct The Bottom Line in NYC,
It's still such a potent song. im so grateful for having Melanie's music in my life!
Tanmayo Olsen ❤️
And, there's no hint of pretension in her music. It's so genuine.
RIP Melanie.
Some of us that enjoy real great music, will understand how good you are Talented and lovely.❣️
I still enjoy her music, her music helped us all get through the tumultuous early '70s. Her voice sounds just as great as any that came out Laurel Canyon. I think she should be in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame
Seriously.. she is not in the RHF...?...
Beautiful woman. Beautiful singer. God bless you, Melanie! :-)
Great artist!
Agin thanks Melanie. Pue raw talent with a voice to be heard.
Saw Melanie on TV with lay down candles in 1968,that was it.
Impossible that it was 1968. She wrote it about Woodstock which was a year later...
Yes you are a "Beautiful People"
The world needs more.
Melanie is not only a wonderful performer she is true to her beliefs and convictions, because of her the world is much better place live in
Greenwich Village was do controversial at that time because ut became a base for LGBT residents and wasn't always welcomed with open arms.
Memories memories memories that's all we have now and I'll keep them in my mind from now until then
Beautiful Melanie
Every time I listen to different versions of " Lay Down" it touch's my soul, I love all of your music, to my beautiful lady with the beautiful eyes and voice !!!✌️❣️
Her voice can really deliver.
This is a good time to be ALIVE she is EXCELLENT

Ian did you work with Melanie or are you related? Just wondering how you got all the videos and info of our sweetheart.
This is why I have always liked Melanie! Thanks! This makes my day!
Metaphoric genius! Growing up with her music in the background tells me Mom had the new key. Beautiful people just beautiful.
So incredible beautiful. The song and the singer.
I love ❤️ her
Don't' we ALL. For she IS Melanie.
Hard to imagine such innocence in an artist of 2021.
Great quality upload.
Melanie? Safka. Got it. I was wondering for a minute. She's awesome.
Melanie, thank you for sharing these rare and old videos, and for telling what Janis told you behind the stage! Sadly Janis J. and I never actually met in person.
She smiled as good as she sang.
"Trying hard", blessed & branded you with that distinct & beautiful vibrato. I'm pretty sure Marc Bolan must have borrowed this to get the T. Rex sound. (One wonders)
Once you learn you can do that with your voice....it's a fun way of singing...and Yes I thought the same thing back in the early 70s.
Thank you!
eternal voice
Rest in peace, Melanie.
It's cool how her music is still on top.☮️🌷🎶⛵
Maravillosa Melanie
i love her
Alas what good years and days it was
Goodbye Melanie for now!
Thank you
Not too much has changed in this crazy world since Melanie wrote this song. Unfortunately, to many people choose look for at ugly side of life instead of the beautiful people around them.
i've played there!!! (in 1980-81, when i lived there)
am "like" number 2 (why doesn't yt have a "love" button? we can
PS: i LOVE 12-strings;have played them far more many years than 6-string... wish i could have 1 here in Thailand but the humid tropical island air is so hard on guitar strings (as it is, i break 1-3 strings each and every gig!!!) and there is

She was such an attractive young woman, you just wanted to run up and kiss her for being so cute!
She didn't like fans approaching her.
inspiring song
❤Thank you
^ Well, I bet you LOTS of people don't remember Janis now, but you still have a HUGE band of followers and loves!
Eh.
Janis was probably right for herself. You got it just right for you.
Janis Ian was full of it. You were and are your beautiful, authentic self every time. Did someone tell Van Gogh he was trying too hard?
your absolutely right. Janis disappeared after 2 or 3 albums; I guess she didn't try hard enough!
Melanie was very talented but I think she got smothered by The Beatles era and pop music
Beautiful song for beutiful people!
and I hear the Edith Piaf influence here .
I always wondered why she dressed like it was winter year round. Never seen a picture of her in jeans or shorts or anything else besides what looks like a robe.
지금?이노래는 멋있어요?❤❤❤
Melanie didn't try too hard. She splurged.
" I see my papa in the morning "
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..Let’s Go Stop the over look..She was there then.. and to this day..
She wasnt a rock singer. Should Mrs. Miller be in the rock hall of fame?
I wish I was born 20 years earlier.
On some television appearance Melanie said that she appeared on the Tonight Show as early as 1963 or some thing. I know that most of the Tonight Show were wiped but is there any evidence of that appearance? It would be interesting to contrast how she sounded in 1963 and the 1970s
That would be great....
She was 16
This version is faster than she did later not as good maybe she realised that😊😊😊
Melanie, Melanie, Melanie.... You go on that 12 String! You ripped it up! You are God's Only Daughter! I am trying to remember if I've ever saw you play a 12 string in all these years? She is having job keeping up to fast can't control backing ?
Janis Ian was probably upset that you had stronger voice then hers, not to say Janis Ian's voice wasn't beautiful in it's soft nature. I wonder if Janis said, "you try too hard" it in a frustrated manner.
Jewel definitely was inspired by Melanie imo.
If you take care of me I will take care of you , I may even go first 😊
meher baba buttons
The number of people who have no idea who he is is just sad
The female Dylan.
