I had a team mate like this back in the day. He'd Lay a bunt down and get on base maybe 8 out of 10 times. He was fast ash. He was more into track but liked baseball too. Coach would almost always tell him to bunt cause he was almost guaranteed to get on base and or move runners up. But he would get really annoyed because he wanted to get regular hits and Homers too. He was really happy when teams took note of him and started playing really in when he was up. He knew he was able to swing away. Him and coach eventually came to an agreement if there is some on 2nd and no is playing in he had to bunt but if bases are empty it's his call.

I had a feeling she was going to bunt. She was at the VERY front of the batters box, which indicates 1 of 2 things. Either she’s going to bunt or she’s EXTREMELY confident in the speed of the pitcher and her hitting abilities. Usually if a batter is in the front of the box it means they’re going to bunt though.

@@hibainisns8182 Definitely not dumb and definitely not easy. There’s so much brainpower that’s involved on the field and in the batters box. It takes a truly competitive person to be able to play softball on a higher level.

@@99Em07 Im a lefty and a slow ass runner.. never slapped and rarely got called out. We are closer to first than righties and if done right you are basically running straight as well minus running over the plate.

As soon as bunt is shown 3rd bade runs up and grabs it or catcher who’s already off the ground by the time leftie leaves the box. Thats why i used to slap. I was a very fast runner before but when bating leftie i always had to slap when i got older to trick them as there are no straight signs of slapping until last second. Just me though personally. If it works for you great but personally ive never seen it as I’ve switched between both righty and leftie and can only normally bunt righty.

The key was the batter disguised the bunt until the last second..then the several feet the ball rolled... the catcher still got to the ball very well.. a left handed batter with just some speed and laying the ball down third base in this same manner chances of getting on base would be even greater because they have at the least 2 steps ahead of the throw going to 1st, because they are already on the 1st base side... plus, it will be a much more difficult throw for the catcher..

This is actually a defensive miscue. When she set up that far forward in the box, 3rd baseman should have been half way to home, then sprint in when squared up. That’s the only chance to make the play. 3rd baseman wasn’t even in camera shot.
Beautiful bunt, I wish MLB players utilized this strategy more. If executed perfectly, it can change the outcome of many scenarios.

I thought the same thing. It was obvious she was bunting. The pitcher should’ve thrown her up and in. If she exposed it on that pitch; then you can shift your defense accordingly. It is a more difficult sport than people think. If you really know the game; you’ll understand it’s a game within the game. It’s not for dummies.
As the defensive coach I would have appealed she went to the white bag not the orange. As long as I appealed before she got back to the bag. Things you watch as an umpire.
