I happened to catch the last factory seconds sale a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I didn't know about it until it was a couple hours in, so the website was getting hammered and things were going out of stock as quick as I could add them to my cart. I ended up picking up a few, most notably a Para 3 in Maxamet from $80. Good god I can't wait for it to arrive!

I just got a digi camo factory second, second hand, the only thing he or I could tell was wrong was one of the pivot screws was a darker almost golden color. As soon as I got it in the mail. Flytanium scales backspacer and hardware kit. The only things factory is the blade pivot tube and liners. I had noticed the notch on the blade but wasnt sure what it was for until just now. Great information thanks.

Even newer releases like the CPM-4v is easily going for 250$ on the secondary market. Sometimes their knives sit in storage for so long they they are so "new" that it hasn't been broken in yet or maintained/oiled. The pm2 I got was barely openable but once I cleaned and oiled it it seems the reason it was a factory second was it's not centered and the grind might not be consistent.

I've bought many a blade (knife and even sword) under "scratch and dent" categories, for minor cosmetic blemishes as well as issues with blade/guard finishes (purely cosmetic), and come out with heavy discounts on functional, safe, yet slightly 'imperfect looking' items. One of my swords I saved over 50% (150$+) off because the D-Guard was slightly bent and not 'perfectly straight'...! IMO, that just gives it character.
Factory Seconds really aren't a bad way to go if you don't care too much about that sort of thing and aren't requiring perfection. The savings are real~ :)

@@Horde334 Shortly after receiving my 940-1 some years ago, both springs broke in short succession! Luckily Benchmade sent me replacement springs and a new pivot assembly (I also had issues with blade play). Since then, it’s been perfect, and its actually one of my most used knives. Benchmade makes some of the best knife designs out there, but they need to get their shit together when it comes to QC. I think the best knife Benchmade ever made was the anthem, with its coil-spring axis lock. Many Benchmade employees share that opinion. Sadly don’t have one.

Wow. I havnt had any issues. If you have blade play. Tighten pivot. I'f it ruins the action polish the washers or just use your knife a lot and it'l break in. Main thing I love about benchmade. If you have a 20 year old knife. Break the tip. They will take it in. Clean the fuck out of it. Replace anything that needs it. Replace/sharpen the blade and send it back for free. Not to many do that.

@@theknifeconnection9571 I tried everything I could, Im not an idiot. I should not have to fix such a problem in a multi-hundred dollar knife, these problems should habe been sorted out by QC in the first place. I have a mini grip that has pladeplay issues to this day. When tightening the pivot to the point of no-play, the blade will barely move at all! This is a very common issue in Benchmades, and not at all acceptable, no matter if fixable to not. Also, re-assembling Axis lock knives is an absolute nightmare! Im saying that as a watchmaker!

@@Olumin37 man it’s the nature of the axis lock. Many knives have a smidge of blade play with it. I haven’t had to do any of this. I have over 6 benchmade knives. But that’s what I’ve heard of people doing. The only thing I have had is slight lock stick. Which who cares. It’s not a big deal. In fact makes the lock stronger

Spyderco's factory seconds sales are usually done in the parking lot at Spyderco's Golden Colorado factory/store, so if you don't live in colorado near Spyderco's facility there's no way you would be able to actually shop their seconds sale. Spyderco's recent factory seconds sale was their first-ever online seconds sale due to the Coviid19 pandemic, and that sale was an absolute cluster fuck!!! Why, because Spyderco's website usually never has any traffic at all because no one is buying knives directly from their website at full MSRP, and people either use BladeHQ or even Spyderco's App to look up specs on a Spyderco knife. So without beefing up their server/website at all, Spyderco then basically asked everyone in the entire knife/EDC community to log onto their website at the exact same time. Spyderco's website during their online seconds sale continuously timed out literally every two seconds and was impossible to use, if you were actually able to select a knife and move it into your shopping cart that knife was already completely sold out. Spyderco's online seconds sale was a complete shit show of epic proportions!!!! Also, Spyderco's response on Instagram about the issues with their online seconds sale really pissed me off!!!
