The wire clip is absolutely my favorite style of pocket clip. I wish Spyderco or a third party maker would make them available for all Spyderco's knives.
@@HeWhoIsWhoHeIs deep carry, discrete, no hot spots, and doesn’t add a lot of weight to the knife that isn’t completely necessary, but the other spyderco clips aren’t bad either
I feel like the community has underrated BD1N based on BD1. From what I've seen it has edge retention very close to S30V and our Spyderco kitchen knives in BD1N don't have a speck of rust despite my wife leaving crud on them constantly. I've been impressed so far, especially for the price point.
About taking apart pocket knife: I literally just got done taking down my Bugout to clean pivot and washers before watching this vid.. noticed grittiness in the action and now smooth as butter. Yes, being able to disassemble is a good thing.
That gigity made me laugh way too hard 😂 Ahhh God I'm a child lol. I've heard the Para blade shape described as a "modified trailing point" I guess that makes sense 🤷
Spyderco's pocket clip game is the only part of their line I have any issue with at all. Not all their knives appeal to me, but I can appreciate the quality and innovation of them anyway. I'm with you on the Sage 5 and/or Native 5 in Maxamet AND a compression lock...SOLD!!!
I’m fairly new to watching the channel regularly. After this, I’m heading over to watch your video on your thoughts on steels. You mentioned you oil your Maxamet once a month. Could you let me know which oil do you use? Thanks.
“After the novelty of a new knife Purchase wears off, you’re simply left with a tool”. I’m at the novelty stage with my 2 day old para 3. I love it. Literally sleeping with it in my pocket.
The first time I took the lanyard barrel out of my para 3 I did it with my eyes closed and it was perfect. I think it’s actually easier than removing screws, but I’m just built different I guess
Blade thickness: Para 3: 0.145"/3.7mm, Native: 5 0.125"/3.2mm, Sage: 0.118"/3.0mm, Chaparral: 0.079"/2.0mm (no Maxamet, only XHP). Personally, I think the Para 3 is a bit overbuilt for EDC, and don't like how blade spine dictates thumb position. The Native 5 and Sage are closer to the sweet spot, but the Chaparral may have an edge on Native 5 and Sage in S30V. My ideal Spyderco Frankenstein monster would be a Sage 5 in contoured micarta with a Native 5 blade in MagnaCut. But I'll make do with the Sage 2 that's served me well for 10 years.
"In fact im not gonna argue with u cause im super stubborn and i think what i think" ,,,i love it, man thats the best attitude to take with ignorant people.
Having the right tools will make your life easier. I got the lanyard removal tool from sharp dressed knives, less than 30 bucks, works on all Spyderco models with that tube. Never crack a scale or damage a tube again.
I just ordered the sage 1 in maxamet. My big question for spyderco is, why not cerakote the blades to keep them from changing color? I had the para 3, carried it once. The blade started taking color all over in less than 2 month's. I live in sw PA, it rains a lot, but I've never even gotten that knife wet. So I'll try the sage in maxamet and hope for a better result.
My head is hurting I want them all damn it! Looks like I need to just give it up the fight inside my head just leads to one result reduction in bank balance. One sage max and a lightweight para3 on their way! Thank you very kindly for the excellent work on another great bit of viewing. Knives are not a addiction repeat knives are not a addiction ahhhh hell I’m hooked 🥴😂😂😘👍
I'm a first-time buyer of EDC my choices are Sage 1 and Stretch 2 if you had to pick one of the two what would be your pick? I know they both have fancy steel.
Speaking of which, I need to take apart my shaman for a cleaning. Can't remain slick forever, I guess. You missed the inset liners (P3) versus flush liners (S1), looks like the sage 5 LW is inset as well. Probably in the "I don't care" category? I can't say I've ever really noticed a huge difference in feel. :)
I really wish the Sage 5 LW was more popular so you could find aftermarket scales like you can with the Para 3. Also, I totally agree on that G-10 S45VN version, just shut up and take my money.
I am 100% in the same camp - Spyderco should definitely bring Sage 5 is some cooler steels. And once we are at it - Para 3 in a little tougher steels than Maxamet (say Cruwear or Rex45) and micarta (like the upcoming PM2).
Its not a trivial thing whatsoever... its actually a very big deciding factor for many people... that is one of the main things that must be ticked for me...I love the Chaparral and everything about it... but the fact that it has a back lock is what is keeping me from getting one... Its so frustrating because the size and shape and thinness of the handle and blade especially would be perfect with a compression lock... so you can open and close smoothly with one hand...
In my opinion the blade shape of the sage makes more sense than the thin tipped para3 but then again I’m sulking cos I snapped mine, just wish they’d stonewashed the sages blade, looks so much better especially once the metal gains a patina
Spyderco wire clip is way better than their standard one. Doesn't matter, I replace all my Spyderco pocket clips with Lynch Northwest Clips. The fit and finish of the Taichung, Taiwan Spyderco's are slightly better than Golden, CO. Still both great knives. Prefer the compression lock over the liner lock but the liner lock on the Sage is excellent. Too me it's an easy answer-----I'll take both!!! Love my Spyderco's!
Was looking at a Maxamet Sage, but don’t want the liner lock. To get the comp lock Sage, you have to take FRN. Para 3 wins…and I found a LNIB G10/Maxamet for $145 😎
Good helpful review. I was deciding betwin these two and now I'm with sage for sure, cause I already have pm2 and manix. But! Man, what was that - "senen point 2 inches" -? What? Decemal with inches? Man, go METRIC. Those inches, feets, Fahrenheit with pounds and ounces are rediculous nowadays, in 2 words - uncovinient, outdated.
This is why I love the rat2. Open, use, close, then back in your pocket without any thought or pause for admiration. At the price, not afraid of damaging it and if you loose it, just buy another one.
Wow. This is interesting. I really like Maxamet. But I like the Sage more than the Para3. But, having said that, I much prefer the compression lock to the liner lock. My Kobayashi Maru solution (kudos to anybody who gets the reference) is to get the Maxamet version and the lightweight Sage and switch the blade; bam, Sage5 lightweight in Maxamet.
I will continue to prefer the Sage line over the Para 3 because the Para is fugly. As far as the standard Sage 5 goes, I bought bit when it first came out, I it was well under $160. I find the access to the compression lock a bit small, so the liner lock version is more comfortable even with the extra movement.
2 great EDC options but Paramilitary 100% over the Sage, the Para is assembled in the States and that should be a deciding factor if you are on the fence. Semper Fidelis
I think it's great to buy knives from the US if you live here. It's also not my only deciding factor. Sorry, I'm gonna stand by my decision in this video.
@@metal_complex that’s why I enjoy watching, the Honest opinions and reviews. I’m just a Made in USA Guy but I think some of the Taiwan quality is better.. I own a Persistence and love it even being China.
Nice video, I've always been a fan of the pm2, not really the pm3 due to it not having the exact same blade profile as the pm2, I personally wish it was exactly scaled down, I realize the difference is minimal. However, you did make me take a look at the sage, so I took a stroll over to bladehq just to find out I can't get exactly what I want (sage 5 g10/maxamet) and to my disappointment it's not made, for the price I'm not spending what they're asking for s30v nothing against it, but I feel it's played out and there are much better steels. The sage 1 would be the ticket but I don't want the liner lock. I really don't like that these knives sport Taiwan on them either.
The wire clip is absolutely my favorite style of pocket clip. I wish Spyderco or a third party maker would make them available for all Spyderco's knives.
I've had very bad luck with wire clips on the past (not Spyderco) what makes these clips better than others ?

Just unboxed the Sage 1 in Maxamet. I’m in love!!!

great vid, been looking at a sage, been a para 3 guy forever but want a smaller thumb ramp. this helped alot.
The wire clip makes the sage 1 in maxamet look just a bit more industrial. I like it. 😎🤘🏻
Dude, I love the sass and attitude humor in your videos. Always entertaining. Keep up the heated humor.

A lot People out there like the patina that forms over time on non stainless tool steels
I hope the sage is still in stock in 2 weeks when I get paid. I want a maxamet blade so bad.

The movements aren’t trivial, the one movement close on the para 3 is the reason I bought it vs the sage 1
