Honestly I started out in D Phrygian, and have never really left it lmao now it's c phrygian Everyone always acts like it's either middle eastern, or dark. But when you're in drop d it sort of..evens it out? You get a lot more of the higher minor chords and it really keeps it pretty, while having really dark drops to home. I have to actively try to make it sound middle eastern
I love playing around with different keys and different ways to use them; I've definitely written with all of these plenty of times. A couple of my other favourites is whichever key is a major third up from my lowest note -- like G# in standard tuning. That gets you to the sixth degree of a minor scale which is an interval I've always loved. And sometimes go a little bit unorthodox like putting your open note on the third of the scale (like C# minor in standard). That one's a little bit trickier to write in but it's really fun to play if you get it right.

Great video buddy!!
Much appreciated!
This is fantastic, do you play around with 7 strings at all?
@calebwalls6107 thanks so much! Good question. I've played them a handful of times, but never owned one. Are you a 7-string player?
