As long as a musician knows Major scale with relative minor and pentatonic scale, and is willing to try using accidentals they are set. An argument can be made for learning the modes, but it seems like too much theoretical knowledge leads to over thinking and creative stagnation. Just my 2 cents.
@Nerbly I agree with what you're saying overall. The major and minor pentatonic and diatonic scales can be viewed as foundational. Modes can be overwhelming depending on how they're presented, but I like to say that modes are just different starting positions of the major scale. I appreciate the thoughts. Thanks for watching! 🎸
Nice! Good for young players to understand how much learning theory enhances your creativity! It's a marathon, not a dash.

I specifically love them for the fact you can change string gauge and tuning without having to file the nut. You can be playing B one day and change the strings and go back to standard E the next.
bought my first one 35 years ago (Jackson), and there wasnt utoob to tell me how to restring, tension, etc, I just had an allen key and had to figure it out - never regretted the purchase though, I still use it today
If you're asking the question, the answer is no.
Brother, I agree with 99.9% of everything you posted here. I will only add this: The Floyd was the first E.V.H. "trick". When I started playing there was NO "dive bomb" tremolo. (Yeah, I am OLD!!) I routed various guitars and installed a lot of Floyds for my own guitars and for friends. Yes, they require a little more attention, but as you learn what to do it becomes rather mundane, not that big a deal. That's what I am saying. What you have to do is well worth what that Floyd enables you to do with your guitar. Great job on this, I enjoyed watching this and keep on playing, bro....
@threeballedtomcat9380 haha I had no idea about that part of the Floyd's history. Good to know! I agree with what you said about the process being mundane. The more I deal with it, the easier it is to take care of. Thanks a lot for watching and for the comment! 🎸
Floyds are definitely a love/hate relationship. For the first 10-15 years of playing, I would only play Floyd equipped guitars. Now I've been playing for about 35 years and I perfer non-Floyd guitars. I don't mind a Strat or PRS trem though. This is probably from my musical preferences expanding from just metal. I still like metal, but not nearly as much as I used to. I hate how notes go flat when bending on Floyds, and I hated shimming saddles to get the right radius. Other guitars are just much easier. I have one Floyd equipped guitar now out of my 10 guitars. It's the PRS CE DW Custom 24. (It's Dustie Waring's sig guitar. I barely know about him or his band, but the guitar is sweet. Plus I don't like any newer metal.) Problem is, I hardly play it because of the Floyd. Notes going flat when I bend is so annoying. There're definitely tons of cool things that only a Floyd can do. That's why I used to love them so much. This comment clearly shows the love/hate relationship that Floyds bring.
@BostonWhoFan515 the genre thing makes sense. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing a non-metal player using a Floyd Rose 😆 they're a tradeoff for sure. Ah, the string bending issue! That's another good point. There's a gizmo (Tremmory) I wanna try that's supposed to help with that issue, but I think it limits the Floyd's range to dive bombs only. Thanks for watching and for the comment! 🎸
@ZakCharGuitar yup that thing definitely limits the Floyd. I've tried it. It definitely takes away from the range of motion that the Floyd naturally has. That range of motion is what's it's all about to me. If I can't have that, I'd rather not use the Floyd.
I also did that exact same mistake for my first guitar when I was 16. I still have that guitar, played the absolute hell out of it. But I cannot stomach messing with it anymore. I just want a Telecaster now. Let me just set it up once and not have to tune it 27 times every time I pick it up. Or be able to change tunings whenever I want without unscrewing half the guitar open, and messing with the back springs. And then retune it 27 times again.
My Floyd Rose bridges stays better in tune tha most of my hardtail guitars Not counting my Evertune guitars
@BlazonStone the tuning stability alone has got to be one of the Floyd's strongest selling points. I hear good things about Evertune, too. Thanks for watching and for the comment! 🎸
My first Guitar Build, after exclusively playing acoustics was Floyd equipped Its a HSH strat thing and has been with me 10+ years it just works (keeps tune after the Gotoh replacement bridge 4 years ago) it's just my #1 a few years ago got a bigsby equipped non fixed bridge hollow body every body told me it will be hours of fun changing strings yea right the Floyd taught me everything from intonation to string tension and I play a lot of Rock/Blues/Early Metal on it which confuses the punters.
Floyd’s are easy if your even almost mechanically competent
Back in '86 I bought a brand new Ibanez Roadstar II (RS-440). I loved what Brad Gillis from Night Ranger was doing so I knew my first guitar had to be red and have a Floyd. That Ibanez tremolo took a hell of a beating and never went out of tune even after trying to copy what Brad was doing during the outro on "Touch Of Madness".
@@JoeR203 gotta love that reliable tuning stability! Thanks for watching and for your comment! 🎸
I've owned many guitars with a floating Floyd Rose in the 3-4k range. And I keep selling them. I think it changes the feel when picking the strings. It is also a bit of a hassle. The only floyd rose guitar I own is the ones that are locked in place only allowing diving. Such as EBMM Axis or EVH. My favorite floating trem is the one you can find on a Ernie Ball Music Man JP or Majesty. No hassle, no locking nut, the strings are straight at the headstock with locking tuners, and the nut is designed to keep strings stable.
@SLO7HProductions I hear ya. There's actually something I wanna check out (Tremmory) that limits the FR to dive bombs only, kinda like what you described. Those Ernie Ball guitars seem to be growing in popularity. I've played one once but wasn't a fan of the feel of the neck. I'd definitely be curious to check one out that has the trem system you described. Sounds pretty promising. Thanks for watching and for your comment! 🎸
The video covers the subject rather well - both the negative as well as the positive. You stayed pretty neutral about it, letting the viewer make up their own mind. You might think about doing similar videos with other trem systems.
@TheJLF65 much appreciated! I'd love to look into other trem systems. Unfortunately, the only one I've got is the Floyd Rose (at least for now). That could certainly be something for me to dive deeper into down the road, though 🎸
@@ZakCharGuitar Recommendations: the Kahler trem, the standard strat trem, the Bigsby B5, and the Duesenberg Les Trem 2. An oddball addition would be the telecaster trem.
@TheJLF65 I appreciate it! Hopefully one day soon I'll be able to feature those trem systems. Of the ones you mentioned, the strat trem and Bigsby are the only other ones I've had experience with. Kahlers are pretty rare in the guitar shops around me, but they seem to function similar to the Floyd

You showed how to clean a guitar, this video is CRAP 💩
Nice! Thanks, I have Amplitube 5. I bought Their Pitch Shifter plugin pedal. I thought it would sort of automatically give the effect of dropping only 1 octave but it doesn't. Do you know the one I'm talking about? It's orange and it only has 3 dials. It looks simple but I can't get it to the correct octave. It sounds out of tune. Suggestions? Thanks You're a very good player btw. Sounds amazing Subbed.
Thanks so much! Greatly appreciate the compliment and the sub 🙂so I just trialed that orange pitch shift pedal. The coarse knob seems to be in semitones, so you would actually wanna set that at -12 to get the full octave lower. From there, max out the level knob (at 10) and bring the fine knob to 0. I hope this helps!

One of my biggest struggles is my high e string popping out of the bridge. I use the same gauge every time, I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.
@hearingcylinder131 I've been there. I usually just make sure the end of the string is touching the inside of the bridge before I tighten it. I've also heard that cutting the ball end of the string off right at the ball helps. That way, you just slide that remaining braided end of the string in the slot on the bridge. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for watching! 🎸
@ZakCharGuitar I'll have to try that soon. I think most of my problem is just the vice not being tightened enough.
Hell yeah, love me some good and chonky E standard riffage. If anyone is interested then Winds Of Plague also makes a sh*tload of heavy deathcore in E standard.

Damn, dude - you really find the best examples for your lessons. I especially like that it's E standard. I don't need to retune my Les Paul to play this. 🤘
@TheJLF65 thanks, friend! Glad you think so. I feel you--there's a good amount of heavy E standard hidden gems out there. I'll definitely be adding lessons on them in my rotation. Thanks for watching! 🎸
Outshined by SoundGarden was the heaviest IMO. Great video!
Outshined is Drop-D, not E standard. Close, but no cigar. 🙂
@czh2432 great song. Definitely has that slower, chugging vibe to it. Thank you! 🎸
@@TheJLF65 Agreed, but still heavy!
I would love to see an in depth video of string muting, I'm kind of struggling to understand the concept, especially on quick riffs where 1 single note is mutted in the middle of a bar, and also full chord mutting. I hope it's not a hassle to you, you don't have to make them if you don't want to 👐
@slek_cs no hassle at all, my friend. I've got some stuff mapped out for the next couple of videos, but I can totally do a more in-depth lesson on palm muting. Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks or so, and I'll have something out that'll hopefully help. Thanks for the idea! 🎸
