    Hey bud if you tune your strings in the order of #4,3,5,2,6,1 , and tune the first 5 strings sharp as you do it the tension will balance it right out

    • @Mind_Agent
      @Mind_Agent 6 месяцев назад +2

      And you don't have to do them one at a time this way. This will work for an initial string up with all six off.

      @ZakCharGuitar  6 месяцев назад +1

      @Mind_Agent I'll have to give that a shot. I'm guessing that if you do it the way you described, all strings would be off only for a short while, and the neck will be okay. Plus, you'd be able to wipe the fretboard down all at once. Thanks for watching and for the comment! 🎸

    Nice! I never thought of doing it one string at a time to keep the tension on the bridge. Makes sense. One caveat on the video - many places have string recycling programs. D'Addario runs a string recycling program through their web page. So maybe don't necessarily throw those old strings in the trash.
    You can also just wait to clean under the strings... or maybe clean under them before changing the strings. A number of companies make cheap tools to clean under the strings. Might be easier for some people to do that rather than a little at a time while changing the strings.

      Very cool--I had no idea string recycling programs existed. Great suggestion!
      Cleaning under the strings before/after restringing works too! I actually have something that might be similar to what you're describing. It clamps around the strings, and you just slide it along the fretboard.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment! 🎸

      @@ZakCharGuitar I've got one that slides under the strings from MusicNomad, and a couple meant for cleaning the strings that clamp around the strings from Tone Gear. But there's plenty of these things floating around, and you could probably make a make-shift tool by wrapping a micro-fiber cloth around a small spatula or a long-tine fork.
      Anywho, your channel may be small (for now), but I love the videos! I'm sure you'll grow quickly. Every channel starts small.

    The one thing I don't like is snipping the ball off the string, one time the winding started to come off the end of the core and it completely destroyed the string, like it looked fine, but when it was strung up it sounded like everything was palm-muted. Craziest thing I'd ever heard.

    I have some questions. I have seen some people changing all strings at once. What's the benefit of doing them one by one? I also have seen someone using a wooden stick under the bridge to keep it floating. Is it important to do that?

    • @ZakCharGuitar
      @ZakCharGuitar  12 дней назад +1

      @JoonKimDMD good questions. Yes, it's important to keep the bridge floating evenly so that everything stays aligned and your intonation stays in check. Changing the strings one at a time allows the bridge to stay level since 5 of the 6 strings are keeping enough tension on the bridge to keep it floating. Keeping the bridge floating by other means, like you mentioned, also works since it keeps your bridge where it's supposed to be when the strings are temporarily removed. Thanks for watching and for your questions! 🎸

    I don't miss being charged $200 to set one up. Also note that you need METRIC Allen wrenches, not standard!

      That’s insane. I payed guitar center close to $90 to get a setup with new strings and the tech didn’t fully unlock the stud lock on my Ibanez RG’s bridge so he couldn’t get the action low like I wanted. It was insanely high like 5-6/64th of an inch on a shred guitar. I just had to undo the setup and do it myself to get it to 3-4/64th of an inch. Basically payed 80 bucks for a restring. I won’t ever take stuff to get setup it’s such a waste of money. The guy tried to tell me the only way to get the action low was if he took off the bolt on neck and shimmed it up a bit which would have been very expensive.

    One of my biggest struggles is my high e string popping out of the bridge. I use the same gauge every time, I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

    • @ZakCharGuitar
      @ZakCharGuitar  2 месяца назад +1

      @hearingcylinder131 I've been there. I usually just make sure the end of the string is touching the inside of the bridge before I tighten it. I've also heard that cutting the ball end of the string off right at the ball helps. That way, you just slide that remaining braided end of the string in the slot on the bridge. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for watching! 🎸

    • @hearingcylinder131
      @hearingcylinder131 2 месяца назад +1

      @ZakCharGuitar I'll have to try that soon. I think most of my problem is just the vice not being tightened enough.

    Just don't ever change string gauge or even string brand, or else you're going to have to reset the entire float of the bridge... which is a pain.

    I just do NOT trust those winder/cutters. I have tried them, both cheap and expensive ones. Both broke in less than 1 change. Could be bad luck, but I'll just stick with my trusty 2 tool method, lol.

      @BlueEgg25 you could, but you'd have to tune it all up again once you've finished restringing it
