Often overlooked but totally worth a visit!
Welcome to Cambodia. Hope you will enjoy our food culture and enjoy new adventure.😊😊
People forget south Vietnam use to be part of the Khmer country the food different than north Vietnam. 39% still speak Khmer.
fake news
39% of South Vietnam is almost 18millions that means there're more Khmer in Vietnam than in Cambodia itself. you know that?
@@LoveHikaru fake data. vietnamese people is whjt3 skjn but kh4men is bl4ck skjn same as m()nk3y 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Khmer people never forget Khmer Krom .
Great khmer in the world

really cool, as you say Cambodia often gets overlooked
Hi Luke Welcome to Cambodia have a good day
In case people don't know the roots of khmer foods, here are a few things you should take a noten:
1. We use fermented fish in most of dish as a core flavor.
2. Our foods usually has many vege mixed, no surprise that vegan people love it. One of our traditional food has mixed many vege is called "somlor korko" which has so many varieties of vege with a sprinkle of toast rice powder at the end.
3. Spices, lemongrass, many dif kind of herbs you will find almost all our transitional dishes.
4. As you can see, we have alot of mixed Cuisine with dif nation all around the city.
Cambodia doesn't use prahok as a core ingredient in most dishes. It's used in some not most.
@@letssee5213 please enlighten me.
I was born and raised in Cambodis and I use prahok in most of my authentic Cambodian dishes from making paste, soups and cha kreung. Otherwise it's tasteless for my liking. I would pay any price just to get my hand on prohok. It can be very expensive here in USA.
❤❤❤❤
interesting. Cambodia is a cool country, God bless you sir

Thankfull for visiting Cambodia ❤
Hi Luke,
Love your video, been following your channel a few years now. Thank you for visiting Cambodia. I hope you have wonderful time here in Cambodia.
Thanks! 😃
I love Cambodian food! I remember growing up, traditionally, we would eat rice porridge with a side of beef jerky-homemade, of course or salted duck egg. Also, there's so many other traditional dishes you still have to try out...
Luke the video was great.. but I look forward to you eating Amok which is our National Dish, eating prohok katiss, tuk kreung which is so good, somlar machu, cha greung all that food. I hope to see you eat with the locals and eat more authentic khmer food.
Khmer food is not supposed to be sweet. Its a mixture of salty, bitterness, sour tangy, spicy.
But I know there will be more to come Luke. This is just your first video of Cambodia. I hope you go more to the country side.
More videos coming soon and of course trying amok!
@@LukeMartin yay Luke. I can’t wait to see more videos! Let’s go. 😊
Amazing vlog looking forward to seeing more episodes of cambodia :)
Food looks so delicious. Can’t wait to enjoy it in January, 2024.
Hi Luke, thank you for finally visiting Cambodia, my country ❤
A few notes from a fan though: you didn’t really eat traditional KHMER food aside from the ending, you ate mostly street food which these days has been more tailored to western visitors who prefer sweeter food. Traditional Khmer food is not sweet at all, it’s a delicate balance between salty, bitter and sour, which are flavors Khmer people prefer. Also, the beef “curry” was not curry but a beef stew, we call Kho Ko; and rather than the pork rice being the national breakfast, num banh chok is really the national breakfast. In fact, num banh chok is eaten all day by all people, and that name only refers to the noodles themselves. The full name would be “somlor khmai”, literally meaning “Khmer soup”. Next episode I would love for
You to eat more traditional Khmer dishes, like prahok ktiss, amok, tuk kreung, etc, foods more popular in the countryside where a lot of fermented fish and other foods are used. As well as to show all our beautiful native fruits and vegetables
Cambodia has four national breakfasts: nom banchok, kuyteav, bobor and bay sach chruk. Obviously each of the four main breakfasts have many styles and local versions. So for example with nom banchok you have somlar prohar (also nicknamed somlar Khmer because it’s the most popular), but then you also have nom banchok somlar kari, nom banchok sros, nom banchok toek prahok (also called nom banchok Siem Reap because it’s a specialty of that province), nom banchok toek mahech (from Kampot province), nom banchok khua kdam (made from paddy crabs), and so on.
Please tell us the truth, do you catch diarrhea after you ate please? Thanks for your help, from France, stay safe.
@@lesly3905 why do you ask about peoples toilet habits you weirdo. No one here is interested in this

Cambodia pork and rice is like lunch in Tainan! Fried Banana and fried rice noodles feel very Thai!
Sweet beef curry and baguette feel like Japanese style plus French style!
After watching this video, I feel that Cambodian food combines the characteristics of many countries!
I envy you that you are still in such good shape despite eating so much delicious food! Thank you very much for sharing, super great job! 👍🤩🙏
I agree! Khmer food seems like a lot of influences and characteristics of other cuisines! Thanks Gianni
@@LukeMartin It is my pleasure, thanks to you too!
Take care! Happy travels! 👍🥰🙌
I doubt that Khmer people have ever been in contact with Taiwanese people and Japanese people. You’re basing this off of assumptions and out of thin air. These dishes have unique histories and origins. Nothing related to what you just said.
@crew The facts I mentioned have been recognized by Luke, and it doesn’t have to be opposition just for the sake of opposition to change!
You can go to those countries to taste it yourself, which may be an impossible task for you!
@@giannishen Umm no. Luke and you are not Khmer, and you are basing these assumptions yourselves. What else do you know Mr./Mrs. Know it all??? Lmao😂 and already you are assuming I don’t know the cuisines of other countries. Impossible task? Why assuming again lol. You don’t know me. Been to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam already. Wtf 😂
Thank you for reviewing food in Cambodia! Love your video

Thanks for coming Cambodia

So great food
When my family went to Thailand in the 70th the whole town speak Khmer. I was so surprised that the whole town can speak Khmer. There accent was like speaking in the Ancient.
Maybe they khmer because they come to Thailand to work a lot
คนเขมรมาทำงานในไทย3ล้านคน คนไทยจริงๆไม่สามารถพูดเขมรได้ และอ่านภาษาเขมรไม่ออก
@@user-pb3xi5jz3jsome people go to work but some are old Khmer many province of Cambodia loss to Thai when my dad go to Surin Thai police also speak Khmer to him
@@sonamiyen4292The commenter said in the 1970’s. This is during a time when Cambodia was prosperous and before the genocide. So clearly, this implies there was no need for Cambodian workers in Thailand. I think he/she is referring to the Khmer Surin people that can speak Khmer. These Thai bastards always talk about Cambodian workers out of arrogance when the commenter clearly was referring to the 1970’s. Haters will always find something negative to say. Also these bastards always forget that 100% Thai people also got conquered by Khmer people. The province of Koh Kong (which was originally Khmer territory anyway) was annexed to Cambodia and that province had a lot of 100% Thai people who are assimilated and speaking Khmer is mandatory for them. Such dumbasses from these ThaiGENDERS 🤦♂️
