Thank you friends Luke for sharing the new episode. That delicacy of street food in Cambodia is a spectacle to the palate. I have a friend who visited the country and was walking around with a pot of salt. He says that the sweet only in desserts, the food has to be hot volcano type and with salt. 😊
Unlike the cuisine of neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam (which can really pack a spicy punch), Cambodian food is subtler with its spices. Sturdy ingredients include garlic, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, turmeric and galangal, which are usually pounded into a kroeung (paste) and commonly used in cooking.
There were tons of Khmer foods that were buried with elderlies who were killed during the Pol Pot regime. My great-grandmother was a street food vendor before Pol Pot.
About cambodia food taste sweet maybe because of the different region im from battambang city so when i first came to live in phnom penh every dish taste so sweet to me. all the same dishes will taste different in every household and provinces
Good morning from America Luke. Thanks for a wonderful reaction of Cambodia and for sharing. And the best way to pronounce deep fried banana is JAGE-JIAN not wit CH but J😎😁love it
This is what I took from google and I agree with him/her. ! Reason why Cambodian food is so underated. *I think the main reason is that majority of people across the world have not known about Cambodian food yet. Also, the Cambodian diaspora communities living overseas don’t seem to promote their food or culture as much as some others do. Perhaps simply because Cambodia is a small country and there are fewer Cambodian people in the world. I mean Cambodia is not very good at promoting their foods/culture or presenting its to the world as well as other known nations, plus Cambodia population is very tiny compare to their neighbors such as Vietnam or Thailand. There is much Cambodian foods that should be on the lists and yes it truly base on my preferences such as Somlor MaChou Kreung, Somlor MaChou Srae, Somlor Kor Ko, Somlor Ktis, Knob, Pa-Ork Ktis, Amok, Prahok, then we can have Prahok Chom Houi, Prahok Ktis, Trey Dot Ampel, Trey Ang Bok Svay, Nom Banh Chok. There is so many to lists and trusts me those are super super delicious. From my points of views we Cambodians do not yet adapts how important presentation is, and most of the time devalue our foods and culture.
From what I know, but just a tiny bit of info is that Thai food used to promote their food, especially in the US by spending a lot of money to post on social media and more(I forget in which ways and when they did it, I read the information online) just to spread about their food.
It’s so true! I also think Cambodia people are humble, not aggressive in term of advertising the food to the world, not as business savvy like other neighboring countries. The food is way under rated for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Tasting seeetness in your food is definitely a new generation thing. Older generation can’t handle sweetness in our foods. Having said that we do have some food that are intentionally sweet - some you add lots of fresh lime or natural sweetness from squash etc.
Glad you enjoy most of our traditional dishes. But khmer food typically isn’t sweet. It’s just as of the past decades that the natives all of a sudden gone “sweet”
It's what I searched on google and it's also the truth. 😊 *Why Are Thai And Khmer Similar? The most obvious reason for this is geographical proximity. Thai shares an extensive land border with Cambodia. During the Angkor period, when the amazing Angkor Wat was built (a UNESCO world heritage site), Khmer had a vast influence on the region, and one of these ways was in language.
sweet people live in Cambodia lolz; every time I buy food, I told them not to make it sweet haha even though I am khmer. They did not focus much on health, just delicious food haha
Kinda sad that u keep saying it similar to this to that it sounds like that’s not our khmer food it’s like we copy them or sth so pls… but anyway thanks for coming here.
Cambodian food is mind blowing delicious and underrate. Y'all have to at least give it a try.
Steak and prohok sauce is the best combo and don't forget our Khmer hot pot yao hon.
we could go to visit Cambodia, then go to visit ANGKOR WAT.😍😍😍😍😍😍
no it's not, it's basic at best. Compared to vietnamese food it's still a juvenile.
@@vnxdragon bro all you guys got is dishes with sweet fish sauce that basic

Eating curry with bread is also found in Vietnam. Makes sense since Vietnam and Cambodia are neighbors.
Correction: since both were colonized by the French
Thank you so much ❤ for this video.

That 'yoga' lady dishing out the 'duck's' egg batter! The birds shown are not ducks but a gaggle of geese.
