If you split up the Japanese word for "Retsu" (烈) you can actually write "Kenpachi" (剣八). She retired the title from everyone else's point of view, but very few people like Yama or Shunsui knew about her being the Kenpachi, and she was just kind of waiting to pass the title to Zaraki. I suppose the Kenpachi right after her was just self intitled as such, and everyone else just followed right after by killing their predecessor. This is all headcannon though, since we never got in details what happened

Everytime Kenny was blacking out he was dying, and she would heal him back to keep fighting. Her bankai is acid so the acid was melting Kenny and her, but again she can instantly heal so it doesn’t matter if she gets acid on her.
The thing with the imagery is that Unohana was literally killing him and bringing him back to life, when we see her as a skeleton after kenpachi is half bones is the first time he lands a blow that would have killed her and once he does it continuously she lets go knowing he is strong enough to kill her regardless of what she could do at that point... everything metaphorically happening is physically happening in this fight and its beautiful

I really appreciate you saying those things about Bleach because that's exactly how I feel about it. I can understand that maybe it's not your genre and therefore you don't like it, but you can't say that it's mid or that it doesn't have a well-written story because that's just hate. if you look at bleach on a superficial level it's obvious that you won't understand the deeper meaning of it. All zanpaktous can manifest to the degree a shinigami is able to relate to his/her sword. The filler - Zanpaktou Rebellion Arc - will showcase some early concepts Kubo had in mind for each of the different Zanpaktou spirits in soul society.
When Zaraki black out the reality is that unohana kill him and heal kenpachi back and with that she enjoy killing him and revive him until he get stronger.
Bleach was such a HUGE part of my childhood growing up. I loved the worldbuilding and the characters and all that. It just spoke to me on a level that other anime never did. A lot of people don’t really give Bleach the respect of One Piece and Naruto and while it bothered me a lot as a kid, as an adult now, it’s fine. It means something to me and that’s good enough. I’m glad you’re enjoying this journey of Ichigo’s man.
Huge respect for those pushups, not only did you back up your words with action, but you made it harder on yourself. 2:08 Ichigo passed the vibe check 3:25 Hoho is basically the speed and stealth skill tree, so things like flashstep and Utsusemi (That ability that leaves behind a body double that Yoruichi and Byakuya used). 3:47 Zanjutsu is just basic sword training I believe, but that would be considered a massive upgrade for Kenpachi lol. Shunsui seems to be a very different Head captain than Yama was, Yama used to just do whatever Central 46 told him (Presumably to keep himself in check), but Shunsui seems to be willing to fight back and argue against their decisions. Kenpachi Zaraki is the 11th Kenpachi and I believe they said he 1-shot the 10th Kenpachi lol All I'll say is that she already had me at food. 9:33 That is where Aizen is, but that place is "Infinitely large" so he could be anywhere down there, but he can probably feel them fighting. Kenpachi was just born a monster, he's been stacking bodies since he was a kid. Unohana has been killing and reviving Kenpachi this whole time and that's why he keeps blacking out (I believe their fight also lasted about 3 days) 18:02 notice how he starts to mimic her movements from the start of the fight and then when he rushes her she couldn't keep up, this is just his speed, Kenpachi doesn't know Flashstep or anything, but I'm pretty sure Unohana does, so his base movement is just ridiculously fast. 20:07 this was just symbolic of her giving the official title of Kenpachi to Zaraki. I really like Oetsu, but he does seem exhausting to be around for too long.
Btw when Unohana stabbed kenpachi through the throat, that wasn't a hallucination. In the manga its explained better but pretty much she kept killing him then reviving him, hundreds to thousands of times. That's why he kept blacking out, she was unlocking his true power and potential by doing so. Also her bankai acts like an acid that can both melt and heal, so she heals herself and her opponent while also melting them, as kenpachi was melting to bones so was she, this was part of her bankai. Also she only learnt healing more so to actually heal her opponents and revive them to kill them over and over when she was looking for people to fight. to find true battles and to satiate her bloodlust. Also yes zanpakuto are created, then given out to soul reapers to then try and imprint their soul onto it forming zanpakutos with names. Some however are already imprinted and are either clan zanpakuto passed down or legendary zanpakuto, such as a specific captains who's a prodigy.

I genuinely feel like all the fans of the OG Shonen era are now older and more respectful, and all the new people are the ones who drive terrible narratives towards other series to bring them down. For instance the big 3’s fanbase really rallies together nowadays to show love and respect for one another. During the flashback where yachiru and Zaraki first met, he said that he named her after the person he most admired. Something else to note is that unohana's shikai translates to "flesh gorge blood drop" (something along those lines) while her bankai translates to "all things end"

4:28 i waited for that reacting soo long 😂. unohana's bankai is like a domaine expension in jjk, her shikai is that little monster she used to heal the lieutenant inside it's stomach, her bankai is an extension of that they were fighting inside that stomach that's why unohana could heal instantatly and in my opinion zaraki was telling the truth that he was melting cuz remember inside a stomach there is acide so she was killing him and healing him in a very intansive way to break his limiters. anyways a little spoiler, unohana is in hell rn and the new arc if kubo decides to continue is about hell so i really hope we can see her again
Unohana’s bankai is blood-like corrosive acid, which explains why zaraki said "im melting", unohana was actively fighting and healing both herself and zaraki from the acid burns. Until zaraki finally broke all his shackles and killed her.

Unohana's Bankai is basically acid blood that melts things away in an instant, when Kenny's face was a skull, the only thing keeping him from dying was Unohana. Kenny was getting man handled by Unohana for 99% of that fight and basically died multiple times, but because Unohana has insane healing abilities, she kept bringing him back. Because as she explained, Kenny jsut like Ichigo, gets stronger the closer he gets to death, so she basically put Kenny in her version of a hyperbolic time chamber to help unlock his potential again. And it's doubly sad because it seems like Kenny genuinely cared or even loved her, but I guess it took her dying for him to gain the power needed to fight such a powerful foe as the Quincy. Edit: I should clarify that this is how I saw the episode, I could've gotten some details wrong)
i think this is one of the most beautifully written fights in anime. The kenpachis fighting each other, the symbolism, the passing of the torch, setting, ost, etc. With that being said, when I finished the manga, one thing always stood out to me. killing one of your top healers during a war is crazy to me lol.

Awesome reaction again, I really love these episodes. While it would have been better for the coming war if Unohana didn't die, that was clearly what she wanted herself. She basically felt like she should have been killed by Kenpachi 100's of years ago when he was a kid and have been living on borrowed time ever since. Personally I think she could have healed herself out of that strike if she wanted, but there was no need to. She had already awakened him and for-filled her purpose/atoned for her sin of indirectly making him weaker for years. As the rule of Kenpachi's say, you need to kill the former to become the next, that is finally what Kenpachi was able to do for real, while breaking his own mental shackles. And as much as I love her character, let's just say that a fully powered Kenpachi is gonna be worth a lot more in the war. And btw. not really a spoiler since it is heavily hinted at in the episode, but the person talking to Kenpachi after the fight is his Zanpakuto.
The OST for Unohanas Banki, on top of her saying Bankai gave me fucking chills And when Zaraki started to “wake up” and did that triple flash step…I have rewatched that part over and over again.

1. I love Minazuki, the core of her split soul between the killer young self and the wish to atone for it by saving and healing people, both within the blood ability of her bankai. 2. On topic, it wasn't the same as Ichigo, he was just extremely empathic sensing the killer stare of Kenpachi as a blade stabbing him in the chest, what Unohana did was the real thing: killing Zaraki over and over and over again, healing him every time until he became stronger and stronger, stronger than her, to atone for her sin. Insane. 3. Those who say Bleach is not top are f(6)king ret4rds. It's my 2nd favorite show after Claymore, as argumented as need be, any time. It's true it has some bad fillers, but nothing as bad as Naruto which has by far the worst fillers in the Universe compared to its top quality. Not all anime has fillers, like Claymore, thank God. (26 ep anime or shorter) Best manga? Claymore and Berserk, it's just a pitty they don't animate it, it would put the big 3 to shame, honest to God. But it would be R rated, so not for kids lol.
Yeah Unohana’s death always upset me. (I’m still pretty darn salty about it) Like… idk. We already have far fewer strong female characters than men, nor do they usually get the opportunity to play pivotal roles in battle. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still better than a lot of Shounen anime, but still… The fact that her character was not given the chance to show her true strength until this moment, and for her to then be immediately killed off… made me upset. I felt she had so much more potential as a character than just… idk. Treated as cannon fodder in order to make Kenpachi stronger. :/
8:40 both right and wrong Yamamoto was definitely invited to the Squad since he 1. founded the 13 squads 2. founded the entire Academy where every soul reaper gets trained. The reason he didn't join (you can decline the invite) sorta is for the reason you said about protecting the soul society. However its not cause its his sole purpose but the fact he had no successor to the head captain position. As he stated against Aizen *No soul reaper born in 2000 years has surpassed me.* He was most likely waiting for a some one strong enough, and someone with a good enough head on their shoulders to take up the position before retiring to the 0 Squad, which disqualifies the young lazy version of Shunsie and Kenpachi (Ukitake is to sick), Gin was a prospect as the greatest prodigy since the Academy founded but Aizen happend, Toshiro is also looking promising but needs more maturity.

yachiru was unohanas real name... kenpachi was the title for the person who mastered 1000 fighting styles and is only passed on through a death match, with the exception of unohana giving up the title to be a healer for the court gaurd squads after the first quincy war... captain yamamoto often called her retsu, which means violent in japanese because she was a str8 savage back in the day...
The thing with this series is that there are small details that nobody ever pays attention to that will lead up to the answer that appears later on in this series and then you have to go back and re-watch and re-read again because now that you have a hint.. you want to find out where that detail was. of course folks don't want that well most of them, they want to make bs claims about a show being mid or whatever based on their own laziness or understanding of the context that is given to them. case and point, hints about Ichigo's family lineage that folks missed right up to the final conflict with Aizen. and now with Yachiru.. in fact there were hints about her during Ichigo's first encounter with Zaraki, which many missed due to translations of the show. of course manga was included as well. at the end of the day though people are gonna have an opinion about something whether it be constructive or just foolery in general.

Bleach was such a HUGE part of my childhood growing up. I loved the worldbuilding and the characters and all that. It just spoke to me on a level that other anime never did. A lot of people don’t really give Bleach the respect of One Piece and Naruto and while it bothered me a lot as a kid, as an adult now, it’s fine. It means something to me and that’s good enough. I’m glad you’re enjoying this journey of Ichigo’s man.

Btw when Unohana stabbed kenpachi through the throat, that wasn't a hallucination. In the manga its explained better but pretty much she kept killing him then reviving him, hundreds to thousands of times. That's why he kept blacking out, she was unlocking his true power and potential by doing so. Also her bankai acts like an acid that can both melt and heal, so she heals herself and her opponent while also melting them, as kenpachi was melting to bones so was she, this was part of her bankai.
Also she only learnt healing more so to actually heal her opponents and revive them to kill them over and over when she was looking for people to fight. to find true battles and to satiate her bloodlust.
Also yes zanpakuto are created, then given out to soul reapers to then try and imprint their soul onto it forming zanpakutos with names. Some however are already imprinted and are either clan zanpakuto passed down or legendary zanpakuto, such as a specific captains who's a prodigy.
Name and identity are two very important aspects in Bleach lore.

Unohana’s bankai is blood-like corrosive acid, which explains why zaraki said "im melting", unohana was actively fighting and healing both herself and zaraki from the acid burns. Until zaraki finally broke all his shackles and killed her.

Unohana's Bankai is basically acid blood that melts things away in an instant, when Kenny's face was a skull, the only thing keeping him from dying was Unohana. Kenny was getting man handled by Unohana for 99% of that fight and basically died multiple times, but because Unohana has insane healing abilities, she kept bringing him back. Because as she explained, Kenny jsut like Ichigo, gets stronger the closer he gets to death, so she basically put Kenny in her version of a hyperbolic time chamber to help unlock his potential again. And it's doubly sad because it seems like Kenny genuinely cared or even loved her, but I guess it took her dying for him to gain the power needed to fight such a powerful foe as the Quincy.

i think this is one of the most beautifully written fights in anime. The kenpachis fighting each other, the symbolism, the passing of the torch, setting, ost, etc. With that being said, when I finished the manga, one thing always stood out to me. killing one of your top healers during a war is crazy to me lol.

Awesome reaction again, I really love these episodes. While it would have been better for the coming war if Unohana didn't die, that was clearly what she wanted herself. She basically felt like she should have been killed by Kenpachi 100's of years ago when he was a kid and have been living on borrowed time ever since.
Personally I think she could have healed herself out of that strike if she wanted, but there was no need to. She had already awakened him and for-filled her purpose/atoned for her sin of indirectly making him weaker for years. As the rule of Kenpachi's say, you need to kill the former to become the next, that is finally what Kenpachi was able to do for real, while breaking his own mental shackles. And as much as I love her character, let's just say that a fully powered Kenpachi is gonna be worth a lot more in the war.
And btw. not really a spoiler since it is heavily hinted at in the episode, but the person talking to Kenpachi after the fight is his Zanpakuto.
The OST for Unohanas Banki, on top of her saying Bankai gave me fucking chills

1. I love Minazuki, the core of her split soul between the killer young self and the wish to atone for it by saving and healing people, both within the blood ability of her bankai.
2. On topic, it wasn't the same as Ichigo, he was just extremely empathic sensing the killer stare of Kenpachi as a blade stabbing him in the chest, what Unohana did was the real thing: killing Zaraki over and over and over again, healing him every time until he became stronger and stronger, stronger than her, to atone for her sin. Insane.
3. Those who say Bleach is not top are f(6)king ret4rds. It's my 2nd favorite show after Claymore, as argumented as need be, any time. It's true it has some bad fillers, but nothing as bad as Naruto which has by far the worst fillers in the Universe compared to its top quality. Not all anime has fillers, like Claymore, thank God. (26 ep anime or shorter) Best manga? Claymore and Berserk, it's just a pitty they don't animate it, it would put the big 3 to shame, honest to God. But it would be R rated, so not for kids lol.

He was most likely waiting for a some one strong enough, and someone with a good enough head on their shoulders to take up the position before retiring to the 0 Squad, which disqualifies the young lazy version of Shunsie and Kenpachi (Ukitake is to sick), Gin was a prospect as the greatest prodigy since the Academy founded but Aizen happend, Toshiro is also looking promising but needs more maturity.

yachiru was unohanas real name... kenpachi was the title for the person who mastered 1000 fighting styles and is only passed on through a death match, with the exception of unohana giving up the title to be a healer for the court gaurd squads after the first quincy war... captain yamamoto often called her retsu, which means violent in japanese because she was a str8 savage back in the day...

The thing with this series is that there are small details that nobody ever pays attention to that will lead up to the answer that appears later on in this series and then you have to go back and re-watch and re-read again because now that you have a hint.. you want to find out where that detail was. of course folks don't want that well most of them, they want to make bs claims about a show being mid or whatever based on their own laziness or understanding of the context that is given to them. case and point, hints about Ichigo's family lineage that folks missed right up to the final conflict with Aizen. and now with Yachiru.. in fact there were hints about her during Ichigo's first encounter with Zaraki, which many missed due to translations of the show. of course manga was included as well. at the end of the day though people are gonna have an opinion about something whether it be constructive or just foolery in general.
