In my state, not only can you not privatize public waterways, you also have to provide an easement for access. Yet I see private property signs everywhere on the river.
Like the Clash says: Know your rights!

    • @ericwilliams1659
      @ericwilliams1659 2 года назад

That sucks. Because than you have to let people walk through your private land.
In my state, yes the rivers/lakes are public but you don't have to let anyone access it on your land. Sadly all the farm land run off makes it so you do really want to eat the fish if you catch.

The boat launches can be private property, and some people just put those signs up so that of someone uses their dock and manages to get hurt, they’re not liable.

I can't count the number of times this has happened. We just ignore the landowners except to give a quiet chuckle when their faces start turning red. Ignoring Karens makes steam come out of their ears. Every fisherman knows that people pay exorbitant prices for a view of the water. And we also know that what you ACTUALLY bought was a view of guy like me sitting in a leaky boat with a cold beverage in my hand. Cheers! 😂

Dude you built a house on a mountain of gravel and you knew it because they've been digging it out of there for like 30 years. And on top of that it's right on a major fault line. The daily dot article gets this backwards. The law isn't what makes the water navigable. The fact the water is navigable (traversable by boat, etc) is what makes it public property.
As for the second person, often the shoreline doesn't count as private property, or reasonable exceptions exist for its use. It's likely the fence line was already the edge of the surveyed property, anyway.

Especially if you’ve got BLM in your name. That organization got a real bad rap a couple of years ago for burning down homes and attacking people at night during the protests. It’s not hard to track people down by their. usernames etc, and you’re an individual making these comments, so it makes you easy to charge. Just saying.
And the other thing about that is, it’s just talk. You don’t threaten to go to somebody’s house and do a number on them while they sleep because you don’t like what they said or how they said it. That makes no sense. Especially when he let them make a phone call and make a fool of themselves in front of the cops when the police show up to tell the guy that he’s wrong and that he has no leg to stand on.

In some places, there’s no legal right to block access to the waterways via land. So while some people will try and fence off all the area right down into the water, they can’t legally do it. Because historically it was used as transportation And an important source for food, so the people need access.

In 99% of states almost all waterways like rivers, dams, lakes, etc are public domain when your on the water in a boat and in some places it counts the shore line as public too. For a lake area to be private in most states it has to be a fully contained water supply where the owner has containment of all the water like a pond or lake. But most streams, creeks, rivers, reservoirs, etc, where the water enters and leaves cannot be private by definition from the state where they own the water and its public. This is because the water is moving thru and up or downstream their usually is public access. Sadly as a fisherman, myself I've dealt with this identical situation of people yelling at me for being in a boat on a river.

Did that old man call him "the n word" ??? Or did he flat out call him the n word? Omg what a disgusting waste of space he is, thinking his eyesore 4 foot fence will protect him from swallowing his own teeth. If that word got edited out I have so much respect for the fisherman, and so much empathy.

happened to me about a year ago, i was eating lunch off a canal road leading into a small lake, pricy homes, old guy marches toward me angrily, "this is a private road, you need to leave." i knew it wasn't a private road because they have orange street signs, public roads have green. this was green, it was a dead end, houses on one side, canal on the other. i told him it was a public road and i didn't have to leave, that i wasn't blocking traffic, and was on the side of the canal, not the homes.
'"i'm calling the police". i'm like "go ahead, you're wrong." after 5 minutes i left, i didn't want any police encounter to make me late for work. dude gave me the death stare as i left, i waved just to piss him off even more.

Even when they are at home, sitting in their favorite comfy chair, with their favorite beverage in hand, watching their favorite tv show, ....People like this are still stewing about what someone said at work that day, ...or going over and over in their mind, the car that made even the slightest wrong move as they were driving home, or how slowly the old person was paying for their items, in front of them at the store! Sadly, people are falling hook, line and sinker for the programming that is turning them into fearful, paranoid, angry, hateful, unforgiving, bitter, entitled, nosy, busy-bodies!

My family used to live right on river front property. The city made us give access to the public to use our driveway that went from the street all the way down to the river so that people could drive down with their boats and dock into the water.
It is called a public easement that is on private property.
No ones the river that is open to everyone, no matter if you own the land touching it.

Shore Fisherman Here 🙋‍♂️ most waterways if u get in the water and navigate in waders (ie just have your tows barely in the water) its totally legit. Talk about bringing the Karens out?! 🙋‍♂️ Holy crap, I guess I should film it more and put it on my channel. I always deleted it out of respect to not make the people look bad, but it is usually a good laugh. Can't tell u how many times I've had this happen to me and even had the police called on me. Police show up with me still standing in the water ankle deep - Cops "if he's in the water and he didn't access the water through your yard or by walking on your pier, then he's good". Homeowners almost always snap - "well stay off my pier and out of my yard!" (while storming off back to their house) Cops - "Sorry man. Just maybe stay away from this house for a while to give yourself a break from these people" 😂👌 Then they ask if I am catching anything before they go. EVERY TIME. Friggin hilarious. But if it's legal, it's just sad that people get this ugly about it. Really is. Worst I've had is when I've had all 3 of my kids with me 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Yup, some grumpy lady snapping on my 2, 6, and 8 year old kids at the time. Probably the only time I almost snapped back. But I turned it into a teaching opportunity for my kids about kindness and doing things the right way 🙏 also had a different neighbor lady come over and snap on her neighbor in my defense. That was pretty cool! 🎣🤙
