Can you please explain to me why all of a sudden, my Macbook Pro stole 1 whole GB from my storage when I have done absolutely NOTHING at all? Please, it's giving me a panic attack!
It’s actually very simple. Mac is using free storage to cache files in order to make them easily accessible👨🏼💻 And Ram memory is also offloading some data to a storage, it’s called ,,Swap” I am just working on the video explaining this I will let you know when it’s shared. But in general don’t worry about it. It’s taking the storage only temporarily. If you restart the computer it will be automatically freed again 👍

Thanks so much for your video. I have recovered a lot of space. Can I delete ICLOUD DRIVE in MOBILE DOCUMENTS if it is disable on my MacBook pro? - it says 1,02 TB on my MacBook Pro 512 GN

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro M1 with 245.1 GB storage and 16 GB RAM. 94.75 GB is filled by the system data. However, my user library takes up 65 GB, my system library takes up 10 GB and my applications take up 46 GB. So what could the 94 gigs of data possibly be if it isn't in any of the main folders?

It is just the same never ending problem of macOS. These calculations just doesn’t show correctly. It has been completely redesign In MacOS Ventura. So once the new version is releases (sometime around the end of this month) you can update your macOS and I believe it will be showing correctly there 👍👨🏼💻

Hello, the right number is the one from system settings. You can't just right click the applications folder to find out how much storage the applications are taking, because a lot of these applications has data stored in system library or in other users profile 👍👨🏼💻
how do i expand the system partition? i'm running a VM with catalina and my image is 32 gigs which wasn't enough for xcode. i shut the vm down, expanded the image to 64gb with qemu-img resize, restarted the VM and i can't figure out how their partitioning utility works or what the bar graph actually means. lsblk, fdisk and mkfs aren't commands on macos either so i have no clue what's happening apart from the fact i'm now stuc with a 32gb partition.
I have a problem when im trying to fix the storage of my mac, i go to the volume folders (applications, library, system, user) and they add up to 90 gb out of 121 of storage used, but when i go to about this mac it says that i've used 110 gb out of 121 and i only have 10 gb left, how do i solve this?
Well the problem is that you can’t really count each folder separately 📁 they will not add up together the storage what is actually used. I’m afraid you really have only 10gb left, so you should review your files and delete what you don’t need and archive other files on external storage.
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial yeah, u can actually count and add them up, it takes a while, I checked using cmd+I and wait the data to load, it takes a while like 1 or 2mjnutes to appear the storage used by that folder
@@arsenalz4400 Yes of course you can show the folder info. The point is that you can’t find all the folders to count them together, there are hidden files or even folders which you can’t calculate manually. But the system knows about it. That is the difference between your calculations and the real taken storage.
I wouldn’t recommend to delete anything from the system files, but you can remove certain files from the user library as mentioned in this video or the other appleonlineacademy video related to this topic 👨🏼💻
Well this is really weird, apple should do something with the calculations. The library folder obviously doesn’t take that much it’s just not showing it correctly 🤷♂️💻

My system data takes up 30GB and my library takes up 11GB, yet my Mac still says I have 155GB of system data. It's been like this for 2 months.
It is just the same never ending problem of macOS. These calculations just doesn’t show correctly. It has been completely redesign In MacOS Ventura. So once the new version is releases (sometime around the end of this month) you can update your macOS and I believe it will be showing correctly there 👍👨🏼💻
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial I've updated my Mac multiple times over the last 2 months; the last time was yesterday + it still has this issue. I appreciate your video anyway.
@@tttiffa I’m currently using beta version of macOS Ventura and it seems to be fine there, it shows system usage around 24GB. So hopefully it will be fixed for everyone after the official release 👍
It did not work, i still can't free up the the system storage and can't update my os. I only have apps on my SD and the system that still posesses 77gb. Quite annoying. Any idea to solve it?
It this video I try to point out few locations where it could be, but it's different for everyone. I have two more videos on a similar topic, you can watch that, maybe it will help you find the files which are taking the most of your storage 👍🏻

Thabks for video, I have a problem though, when i check the storage of my apps by going to the computer system info, and clicking get info of the applications folder it said that the applications on my mac are only 3 gb but when i check stoarge it says that the gbs for aps is 90 gb, pls help me.
Hello, the right number is the one from system settings. You can't just right click the applications folder to find out how much storage the applications are taking, because a lot of these applications has data stored in system library or in other users profile 👍👨🏼💻
OH MY GOD THIS VIDEO IS INCREDIBLE!!! Thank you so much
You're so welcome! I am happy you find it useful. 👨💻
Super helpful, thank you!

You are welcome 🙏 I’m glad it helped 👍
Thank you so much! I completely forgot I downloaded epic games once I first got my Mac, and that freed over 100 gigs!
It's great my video helped you with that! 👨🏼💻
how do i expand the system partition? i'm running a VM with catalina and my image is 32 gigs which wasn't enough for xcode. i shut the vm down, expanded the image to 64gb with qemu-img resize, restarted the VM and i can't figure out how their partitioning utility works or what the bar graph actually means. lsblk, fdisk and mkfs aren't commands on macos either so i have no clue what's happening apart from the fact i'm now stuc with a 32gb partition.
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial thx
Why in the world was my "Docker/Data" folder taking up 64GB? Thank you, sir.
0:33 fallen at first hurdle, mine does not show this
OW! What a great video! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! I really appreciate your positive feedback 👨🏼💻
I have a 250gb Macbook 2019 with Ventura 13 installed, 200gb of which is taken "System Data" wtf Apple? At this point my laptop is not even usable.
Literally a life saver, thanks!
Great to hear! I am happy my video helped you. 👨🏼💻
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial Thanks : )
thank you for making this video
This worked
Thank you so much, help me a lot.
so can i delete system and library files? or are they importent
I wouldn’t recommend to delete anything from the system files, but you can remove certain files from the user library as mentioned in this video or the other appleonlineacademy video related to this topic 👨🏼💻
Can you replace the flash storage?
My Mac is 500GB, but the library folder take up 873GB's.
Well this is really weird, apple should do something with the calculations. The library folder obviously doesn’t take that much it’s just not showing it correctly 🤷♂️💻
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial Got a fun little screenshot out of it, restarting the Mac got me 200GB's back!
@@toetie2019 funny 😊 restart usually helps with categorising files.
Thanks bro is so useful
I’m happy to hear that 👍👨🏼💻
I still have not find why there is more than 800 GB is hidden :(
I have made more videos about this topic, try to watch this: m.ruclips.net/video/5d-UH5byLpA/видео.html
And this about the hidden files: m.ruclips.net/video/oM4TZRJsOYM/видео.html
Hopefully it will help you discover what is taking the most of your storage 👍
How about if you waited already and its still the same?
Try to do it again, or click on manage button and then go back. Or update to macOS Ventura if you can. This issue is finally solved there 👍
Adobe After Effects had over 100GB of cache files and I only use once a month for 5 minutes. wtf
It's great you have discovered that! I have recently uploaded an updated version of this video maybe it will help you find more files to clean 👍
