  • The system storage and so known ,,other" space is a big place of confusion for Mac users. But don’t worry I will explain it all in this video.
    NEW COMPLETE macOS Sonoma 2024 COURSE is NOW available:
    Visit onebyteacademy.com and enrol with special 50% OFF the standard market price.
    iBoysoft MagicMenu
    To automate some of these processes I recommend to instal iBoysoft MagicMenu. You can simply use it to locate and remove the duplicate files stored on your Mac system storage to free up more space. Alternatively, you can also use it to completely uninstall unwanted apps with its associated files to free up your Mac storage. And among that it's a Mac right-click menu enhancer coming with a wide range of features, including duplicate file/photo deletion, app uninstallation, new file creation, file compression, screen capture, and more.
    Check out the link bellow for more information:

    I have recently released new video about cleaning the Mac in 2023 ➡ (ruclips.net/video/bC_MvCO8VLo/видео.html), but if you don't want to bother with it manually, check out the iBoysoft MagicMenu which you can use to completely uninstall unwanted applications and you will find there a lot more other features worth trying ➡bit.ly/41sd9W3

    how do i expand the system partition? i'm running a VM with catalina and my image is 32 gigs which wasn't enough for xcode. i shut the vm down, expanded the image to 64gb with qemu-img resize, restarted the VM and i can't figure out how their partitioning utility works or what the bar graph actually means. lsblk, fdisk and mkfs aren't commands on macos either so i have no clue what's happening apart from the fact i'm now stuc with a 32gb partition.

    Thank you for this video. My system is taking 150, out of 250 GB, and when opening the System Folder as indicated by you, I can see that in reality it takes only 18,71 GB. That's a relief!
    However, in the "storage" it keeps showing 250 ...after at least half an hour waiting.
    I can not find and open the other Library in "Go".
    Holding the option key does not open the user library.
    What can I do?

    Do I have to be careful with what files I delete from the library folder because I am suppressing the urge to delete everything for storage because I don’t understand what any of my files mean, so I don’t know what I need to keep and what I don’t. Also will anything happen to my apps if I delete something from the library folder?

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial

      You have to be very careful with the Library folder. You should not delete anything from there what you don’t know, cause most of it is related to system itself. I have few videos on the channel regarding this topic. I would recommend you to watch it and follow the steps. It might help you save some storage.

    I have a problem when im trying to fix the storage of my mac, i go to the volume folders (applications, library, system, user) and they add up to 90 gb out of 121 of storage used, but when i go to about this mac it says that i've used 110 gb out of 121 and i only have 10 gb left, how do i solve this?

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial
      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  2 года назад

      Well the problem is that you can’t really count each folder separately 📁 they will not add up together the storage what is actually used. I’m afraid you really have only 10gb left, so you should review your files and delete what you don’t need and archive other files on external storage.

    • @arsenalz4400
      @arsenalz4400 2 года назад

      @@OneByteAcademyOfficial yeah, u can actually count and add them up, it takes a while, I checked using cmd+I and wait the data to load, it takes a while like 1 or 2mjnutes to appear the storage used by that folder

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial
      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  2 года назад

      @@arsenalz4400 Yes of course you can show the folder info. The point is that you can’t find all the folders to count them together, there are hidden files or even folders which you can’t calculate manually. But the system knows about it. That is the difference between your calculations and the real taken storage.

      Hello Eric, if you open the information about your Mac from the Apple menu and switch to storage (as described in the video) you will see what is your actual storage. In my case there is 499Gb available it means the disk itself is 512. But it is just a number written on the paper in reality it will never be full 512. If you have 256Gb disk it would be around 250Gb of usable space. 👨🏼‍💻

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial

      I wouldn’t recommend to delete anything from the system files, but you can remove certain files from the user library as mentioned in this video or the other appleonlineacademy video related to this topic 👨🏼‍💻

    Oh my goodness thank you so much. I was looking all over the place for an explanation and everyone said “clear your cache and your logs,” but whenever I checked there everything is like 15KB at most, I was like “there is no way this is taking up 126.5 GB” I’ve waited a few more minutes and my documents have already jumped up to more than it was saying it took up before

    when i try to update my mac it doesnt work and the update takes space and now it somehow took 30 gb and I cant find a way to fix it? what do i do?

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial
      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  Год назад

      Hello Lainy, restart your Mac and try to make the update once more from system preferences. The update files are just waiting in your computer to be used. Don't worry about the taken storage. It will be automatically deleted afterwards. Nevertheless the updates itself surely cannot take 30GB, because the whole MacOS installer has around 12 GB maximum, so it must be something else which is taking 30GB of your storage.

    so much space. Then I followed your guide and found out that icloud photo cache was taking about 18gbs, so I deleted this folder and freed up about 18gbs of storage. P.S I have 128gb macbook air 13 inch early 2015 and it was really helpful for me.
