This was not Ledger's last movie. He passed during The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassas. 3 other famous actors took on his role to finish the film and did it for free to pay tribute. I won't spoil them or the premise to those who don't know. It's actually a great movie for having to be rewritten a bit due to his passing. If you want to pay tribute to the legend, go react to that film. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
The Fox "sonar submarine" line is playing on the bit that Bruce has never told him he's Batman, to keep his deniablility, but they both know he knows quite obviously. It's like an inside joke between them
One little fact here, again. Christopher Nolan took inspiration from a number of sources when making The Dark Knight. In regards to the Batman comics and graphic novels that served as sources of inspiration for The Dark Knight, those comic and graphic novels were Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory, Batman: The Killing Joke, and Batman: The Man Who Laughs.
Love how clued up your mum is when it comes to figuring out movies. She works them out better than I do and I consider myself a total movie buff! Great channel guys, much love from Scotland ❤
Fun Fact: Heath ledger improvised so much of his role and the director loved it and kept it in!! He is my favorite of all JOKERS!!! 🃏 LONG LIVE HEATH LEDGER AND MAY HIS BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER LIVE A BEAUTIFUL HAPPY LIFE!!
@WanderingCactus I know and the scene where he goes to the banquet/fund raiser ball and he grabs Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal) by the face she really was scared. That was the first time she had seen heath in his makeup and he was improvising and when he was grabbing her face she was looking at the producer scared and they kept it in. I love Heath long live a legend
Oh yay! I needed this tonight. Jen’s delight in the first movie made me so excited to see her reaction to this. Heath gives me goosebumps several times & I can’t wait to see him affect her, too
Your mother makes a good point that they don't know whether the detonator will set off the bomb on their own boat, never actually considered that & never seen anyone bring it up, but that would definitely be so Joker to do that. You can't trust he's telling you thr truth & given how the scenarios with him have gone to that point then there's probably a good chance you would boil yourself up.
Oh my gosh!! 🎉🎉😂 I never noticed that. Once you pointed out who that black prisoner was and that he was in the Fifth Element!!! So WAS GORDON!😂😂 Probably brought him in on the project, Low-key bestfriends
The turning the head thing is actually a reference to Michael Keaton's Batman, while flexibility was a problem in these movies, it's nothing compared to that one.
This film can work pretty well as a stand alone movie. I seen this so many times before watching batman begins. The only scene i was slightly confused of was the one with scarecrow. Wondering who the guy with the bag of dirt on his head was. I still remember how mind blown i was when you see Harvey become two face.
@@Lloyd-Franklin yes and no. He didn’t complete the filming of Imaginarium so Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law were brought in to finish the film. They donated their salary to Heath Ledgers daughter.
Funny to think that when Alfred was introduced in 1943 (Batman #16), he was meant to be comedy relief -- a bumbling amateur detective who sometimes helped Batman through sheer luck.
For me the best Joker was from the animated series and his voice is burned into my head. But this is the best cinematic Joker by far. None of the other ones scare me and make me laugh.
Wonderful reaction, guys! Very fun to watch Jen's journey through the emotional twists and turns. Such a terrific film, and Ledger's indelible performance lingers long after the film ends.
My favorite Batman movie! 14:04 I remember Christian Bale doing an interview about doing that stunt on the Sears Tower. And he went up there himself, without a stunt double if I remember right. Yeah, that'd be a nope from me! LOL.
Back when Batman Begins was a fresh release and The Dark Knight was still in pre-production, a young Nolan had an interview I remember reading where he said that there was no limit to how many Batman movies could be done because of how rich the lore was (that was all pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe when Batman Begins was the first to popularize "reboots"). At the time, his plan was to sign the Joker actor for three movies following Batman Begins. I don't know if the plan was still to have a Joker trilogy when filming The Dark Knight, but Heath Ledger's death definitively put an end to that option. He couldn't just recast him like he did for Rachel, not after his tragic death and posthumous Oscar - it just wouldn't be right.
Word from friends and family is that this role is what killed Ledger. He immersed himself totally into this character and went to a really dark place that he was never really able to come out of.
52:06 This is true for any villain in history. They never think they are the bad guy. They think they are doing the good thing. They are doing the best thing.
Heath Ledger and Jack Nickoson are my favorite Live action jokers. But Mark Hamill is my favorite joker out of all of them in my opinion! But Heath Ledger Is the best live action joker! RIP Heath.
I was actually referring to a Robot Chicken sketch where Bane continually breaks Batman's back. One of the times he says "Oh, my back just broke like a pack of uncooked spaghetti! Boo on you sir!"
Read Tale of Two Cities b4 watching Rises! My fave of the trilogy cuz of its growing relevance today, and... Because my buddy and I are stadium extras in that scene! 😮
MOM knows her shit. :D Me Likey. Love from Canada 🇨🇦 Wow :) This movie should have gone further and gotten an R rating Fun fact. In the scene at the party where Joker has the knife to Rachael's face, she keeps glancing away. Any time she looks away, she's looking directly at the director, Christopher Nolan, pleading for help, as she had never seen Heath in full makeup and in character before and she was genuinely scared. Nolan just let the shot run, while Heath keeps jerking her head back into his eyeline. EEEEeeeeeee... so creepy. At the end, I so would have had each detonator switch wired up to the same boat, and the civilians press the button, and their own boat blows up.... THAT"S THE JOKE!!!! hahahhahahhaHHAHAHAHHHA
The Best Batman Movie Ever Made! RIP Heath Ledger. His family received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie, and it is dedicated to his memory.
Even if he survived, I still think Ledger deserved the Oscar. His performance was that good. It was a little cartoony and over the top, but the way he constantly changes his origin story, speaking as someone who worked in mental health, is not uncommon. Obviously, it's still an action/cartoon movie even if it is going for more realism, so they're not going too deep with that end of things, and I certainly disagree with Christopher Nolan's premise that people will always make the right decision in the end if given the choice, even at great risk to themselves, but otherwise, Ledger's Joker is a well-written character and his performance is excellent. They walk that fine line of still being a movie based on a comic book while existing in an exaggerated "real world." I agree, the film is probably the best Batman movie ever, but Michael Keaton is still the best Batman. That voice Bale puts on is ridiculous and if he'd just spoken more quietly, it might have worked a lot better. But I just role my eyes whenever he talks as Batman.
You'll never hear me criticize the great Jack Nicholson, but Heath Ledger owns this role. He basically did what Tom Cruise and Channing Tatum have failed to do - play a role where I don't see the actor. When Cruise and Tatum are in a movie, they're literally playing themselves. Ledger seemed like he was in that camp, but before he passed away he gave several really strong performances and this is one of them. And while I still see Michael Keaton as the quintessential Batman and Bruce Wayne (that Batman voice Christian Bale does really doesn't work for me), this is the quintessential Batman movie. The cast alone is awesome. Anytime you can put Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine AND Maggie Gyllenhaal as well as that Ledger performance in the same movie, you're laughing. Take out the goofy voice, and Bale's performance is pretty solid, all things considered. Apparently his performance in American Psycho got him this role. He certainly looks the part, but where Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne understood that he was in hiding and being an over the top party animal wasn't going to help him not be discovered, Bale is constantly flaunting himself and while he's certainly not as ridiculously obvious as sparkling vampire Robert Pattinson, he could have toned it down just a little bit in both of his roles. Otherwise, it's interesting social commentary that I'm not sure I agree with - case in point, the last US election. The message of the film seems to be, people will always make the right decision in the end, even at great risk to themselves. I'm not sure if I believe that. Make them afraid of a phantom enemy and they'll throw anyone under the bus who doesn't look or act exactly like them.
I love the very subtle pop culture references in such a serious movie. "Will the real Batman please stand up" ("Will the real Slim Shady please stand up") "You complete me" (Jerry Maguire)
39:50 was actually a production mistake... The explosives didnt trigger on que, leading to the jokers confusion.. but he stayed in character till they eventually triggered them...
Many people think this role is what lead to Heath's death, it is not. He was struggling with insomnia between roles. When he was acting he was happy and locked in. But between roles he couldn't sleep and started resorting to prescription drugs to sleep. When he died he had taken too much of too many. Insomnia is a real dangerous condition and in its extreme it is incredibly hard to treat.
@@67psychout you don’t understand insomnia my friend. I’ve had it and taken drugs meant to slow your breathing rate down so that your body naturally falls asleep. But even that can’t work after a while.
What's really sad about Rachel's death is that overhearing Batman save Dent made Rachel think Bruce had read the letter she left him and chose to let her die.

He's definitely my favourite Alfred.

When Two-Face is threatening Gordon’s family, and is choosing between their son and daughter…
…that’s Batgirl.
Ah! 😊
At 9:10 - just an FYI - The line "you either die a hero...." was only said in this movie, it was written by Christopher Nolan"s brother Jonathan

The licking his lips thing was more than an ad-lib, there was a problem with his prosthetic, so he incorporated this solution into the character.
