- It's time I sold the last Quicksilver. I purchased a few of these prior to my Power Hack G4 Build series to have access to as many spare parts as possible. I didn't take much from this machine so getting it back up and running was pretty simple. I don't need another Power Mac so this is up for grabs on eBay ready for a new owner:

I just spent a day removing scratches from my G4 MDD. I used various grades of wet & dry paper, followed by a rotary polishing tool with some car headlight polishing compound. Came out like new. Literally no more scratches, even when viewed with a torch.

I've been using mine for 20 years now, never failed - Ever Silver door/ Duel core 1.47 Ghz / 2 Gbs ram/ 500 Gb HDD / OS 10.5 !
So glad we won this on eBay, and even more glad that me and my son got to pick it up from you in person and meet you!! Yes, it was a 500 mile round trip, but hey ho ;) !!

That ending was fantastic.
To find the system specs from an OS X installer, click utilities and then System Profiler (instead of Disk Utility). It works from the Tiger installer to El Capitan installer. Love your videos, Tom!
Hi Tom, It's quite good fun revisiting your videos. I still have a lot of PPC macs to get rid off so this is a reminder to get rid off come of my vintage stuff.
I am happy to report that as of May 2018, the Software Update servers for Tiger are still active 😁

Me too, I am gonna have a Power Macintosh G4 Quicksilver tomorrow evening, with a keyboard, mouse and a 23 inches flat monitor. According to its current owner, it also has a PowerPC G4 CPU clocked to 800 MHz, 256 MB of RAM, a 80 GB hard drive and a NVidia GeForce 2 MX graphics card with 32 MB of dedicaded video memory.

BTW, to get the white scratches off, use a mr.clean eraser. They work really well on taking those kind of scratches off.

hello my MDD is now power up and working thanks for your video, the problem before is the power supply, i converted AXT and put it inside the housing of MDD power supply.

Wow, I still have my G4 and I remember coming to you when I had to help a friend with his laptop. You were using a program to mirror a copy of a laptop disk to a main computer (or the other way)

Hey Tom, thank you for all your great videos on these venerable and loved machines. Really enjoyed the PowerMac Quicksilver hackintosh and also worlds fastest BW G3. So my question is have you ever considered hardware for a worlds fastest PowerMac G4 800 Quicksilver? Kind of in the same style as the BW G3 but with the 1999 beast. Curious to your thoughts.

Those gymnasts that do triple backflip with a twist and land on two feet then they do that “ta da” at the end? Nothing comes close to that one handed backward power switch install with a twisted wrist flourish. Next time I want to see a ta da.

WD-40 is PTFE, not oil. Just wanted to joint that out; it's more of a water expulsion agent than a lubricant.
+unlokia Indeed. WD stands for water displacer and therefore is a degreaser not a lubricant
It is possible to use carbon copy cloner to clone the iMacs leopard hard drive to the powermac G4 and then you have leopard on the powermac G4

Use surgical spirit (from Boots) for the tape. It worked for me.

The System Profiler can be accessed from the Utilities menu on the Tiger Install DVD. XD

hello because when I'm almost at the end of the installation, the bar does not run anymore, it stays stuck and from there it does not pass and after 10 minutes a message appears on the screen saying that I have to restart the PC and either squeezing power or the restart votum help please

If anyone can please help: I got a Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) yesterday and it worked fine for awhile until after I connected my external HDD. I turned off the system while the HDD was still plugged in, then unplugged, then rebooted the system as normal, only for it to give me the question mark Finder icon.
I tried pressing Command(alt)+R to enter the same menu that this guy goes into, but it only gives me the two buttons to the side and nothing else. Any help would be appreciated!! 😁

Hello to you! I'm close to being desperate! I use a G4 for several years, I run my "Ipod", my music (I am musician, amateur, but musician anyway), etc, and this morning it does not turn on at all. I do not understand why!?! I was wondering if anyone here had an idea of why, or if there is perhaps a reset button to press or something to fix perhaps the thing, let say, easily? I've got 2 G4s, a Quicksilver 933MHz and a Dual 1.25 MDD. Selling the MDD as it can't run OS 9 and therefore I don't want it.
V. Sigma if it was a fw400, it's possible, only fw800 is impossible afaik

With it being USB 1.0 it is only really suitable for mouse and keyboard. External Drive read/write is dog slow.
can this run os x 10.6? i have the same except its the graphite model and a os x reinstall

Maximum it can run is 10.5.8 Leopard which was the last release of OS X for PPC.
