    I used to work for Riot and it is really because of the fans that the game's lore exist today. What happened was we used to receive tons and tons of emails asking what is the story behind this champion and that champion and so on, so the team started to write stuff so that we can reply to those emails and keep the fans the players interested. That's basically how it started and snowballed to such a vast lore

      @@schmidth You can either have a good product (movie/game) or an agenda forced down your throat. Many examples proved it to be the case in 100% of the cases. And current Blizzard nothing more than a bunch of rainbow clowns who identify themselfes as attack helicopters etc. There is no hope for that company anymore, it nosedived so much already that no one can save that "plane", even just a hard crash would be a miracle at this point but most likely an honorless death and no one gonna care.
      Riot stays away from any agenda and rainbow bullshit. They doing the right thing, creating a fantasy world for us to escape in from reality. Whats the point of a fantasy game if it is full of the same real life issues and agendas most people hate in video games and movies and those who "care" about that dont play those games and dont watch those movies in the first place.

      Whoever is making those business decisions at Riot is absolutely giga brain. Most companies are just looking at how to improve the next quarter, or maaybe the next year. Riot is thinking about how they grow the brand and the company 2-4 years in the future. Huge investments for huge payoff.

    • @FitzFarseer96
      @FitzFarseer96 2 года назад +77

      I doubt it was that calculated, it's just Riot expanding into as many markets as possible. Arcane was so big they hired extra staff specifically to work on expanding their cinematic universe. At the 10-year anniversary for League they announced like 5 upcoming games, all of different genres. They've gotten so massive that they seemed to just be trying out whatever they want to try,, and it's working because they're not half-assing any of it. Where some game companies would just dish out a dozen crappy games and hope they work off name alone, between Valorant, Arcane, Ruined King, and the upcoming MMO Riot is clearly giving everything required to each individual project.

Sure casual players that don’t really care about ranked gameplay don’t care, but the ones in ranked constantly have to lockout 20+ champions just so the game can be balanced is a huge pain in the ass. Cuz you don’t know weather you are gonna enjoy the game or not before the 5 bans your team has been made. (Bans is where you lockout champions so they can’t be played in that match) the game is just super unbalanced. There is champions that got 2 or 3 kits meanwhile you sit with a champ that’s got 1 kit… basically I can say it this way. CS:GO wise. I start out with a glock. 3:05 There're 2 types of Ascended beings. The Ascended God-Warriors of Shurima who ascend by receiving the energy of the Sun gods through the Sun disc into their bodies are the most common ones but there's actually a second and much rarer kind, the Aspect hosts. They're people who've survived the ascension of Mount Targon. Once at the top, an Aspect may grant a portion of its power to the person (only humans have achieved this afaik) and make it its representant. Leona is one of them, she embodies the Aspect of the Sun (the lady in gold-plated armor in front of the "portal". The Aspect of War (Pantheon) was different though, he didn't grant his powers to Atreus, he possessed his body. When Aatrox stabbed Atreus' body, he killed the Pantheon. Atreus survived and kept the Pantheon's powers. He then went on a quest to kill all the Aspects. That's why he planted his spear in the ground against the Solari soldiers, but took it back when Leona showed up.

      Who are the Sun gods? I hear that lie for the first time. Sun disk has celesital power in it and it comes directly from Aurelion Sol. There are 3 types of gods. Ascended god warriors from Shurima. Celestial gods from Targon and gods (spirits) that were created with Runeterra. Strongest are celestial gods, then Ascended god warriors. Most of the god warriors are dead, there remain only 5 Darkins, cursed and robed of their powers but they kept magic from their legendary Darkin weapons, weapons that kill immortals. Other gods are scared of them cause they can end them.

    • @louisrobitaille5810
      @louisrobitaille5810 2 года назад

      @@aatroxtheworldender933 Ignoring your name, that's some oooooooooold stuff you got there. The Sun Gods are most likely just celestial beings akin to Bard and Kindred. There're technically no "gods" on Runeterra, although a few types of beings can be referred as such: the Aspects, the celestial beings, the Watchers, and the Freljord demi-gods: Ornn, Anivia, the Volibear, the Iron Boar, and the Seal sister.
      The Ascended god-warriors have "god" in their names because of how powerful they are. Each one of them can fight a whole army on its own. The Aspects and celestial beings are sometimes referred as "gods" because they come from a different realm than Runeterra: Targon Prime. The Freljord demi-gods are sometimes referred simply as "gods" because they're so much stronger than a whole region of Valoran united together; they've also impacted the region alot more or less behind the scenes.
      Most of the Ascended god-warriors became the Darkin, but there're still at least a few left that remain as "Ascended", namely Nasus, Renekton, and Azir. All the Darkins that haven't died were either sealed in the Chalicar (Sivir's weapon) or individual weapons. Aatrox was sealed in a sword, Varus in a bow, Rhaast in a scythe, Xolaani in kamas iirc, and the last one whom is unknown is sealed in a dagger. In Legends of Runeterra, one even took possession of a chicken and another a ballista I think 🤔. None of those Darkins are dead. They were sealed away BECAUSE they couldn't be killed.
      Most "gods" don't give a shit about the Darkins. It was the humans that asked help from the Aspects and the Aspect of Twilight (before Zoe) sealed the Darkins away.

    For example I started playing League in 2010 and I stopped around 2016. However things like TFT, Legends of Runeterra, and Ruined King have kept me at least mildly invested in their content and lore, by offering new experiences with familiar characters. That investment and connection players have with the world Riot has created just keeps bringing old players like myself back. I'm sure this MMO will do the same.

      They knew very well that there was a potential for millions of dedicated long-term fans, many of whom would be competitively skilled from day one thanks to their experiences in DOTA.
      DOTA was already the most popular mod for a game in history, it only made sense to make a full game based on the concept. And with the advent of the 2010's gaming hit the mainstream and league of legends became a household name simply by being the most well designed competitive action RTS style game available at the time.
      With players from both the original warcraft 3 DOTA mod and from Starcraft quickly finding the familiar style easy to adjust to.
      Plus it's similarity to the timeless action RPG Diablo, with its isometric viewpoint and point and click control system, means that it retains both a modern look and feel but with the nostalgia and ease of a system that is tried and tested.

      The engine is constantly being updated, the graphics too and perhaps you haven't been into the game but you can see a clear difference from each and every expansion the graphics just get better and better and the game just looks more and more appealing.

      Don't know if you mean that this is a promo for the MMO, just in case, it's not. Regarding "the furry race", I don't know which one you mean. You could mean the like the fox lady or the small yordles. But either way, the fox lady Ahri is probably in the top 5 most popular champions in having a fan base, riot gives her a lot of attention because of that. Which basically means her race is basically guaranteed to be in the game. Yordles are a big staple for the world of Runeterra, they are 100% gonna be a payable race.

      Anyone who doesn't think Riot's MMO is going to kill WoW is delusional.
      The only reason it's going to kill WoW it's because it's from Riot and that's it.
      As soon as their MMO launches it will have the highest concurrent players number ever, people really don't realise how big Riot's franchise is, they have 180M+ ACTIVE players every month across all of their games.
      Even if only half of those players try out the MMO it will be almost 10 times bigger than WoW's peak and you will probably ask the question "what about after a while when people will obviously start to leave because it's not for everyone?", well, even if only 30-40% of those people that will try it out remain, it will still be bigger than WoW has ever been.
      It's just the truth, you need to look at the numbers and do some research but ofc WoW neckbeards can't do that, "my game is the best and it will never die", reality check, it's already dying, by the time the Riot MMO releases, I'll be surprised if WoW has even 3M subs at least and it will most certainly not be a competitor anymore.

    I don't think Riot's MMO will "kill wow". Even if it becomes bigger and more successful as a game.
    Although a game like FF14 or possibly the Riot MMO, will hurt WoW by taking away players, they won't "kill it". People will be back for new expansions etc. But WoW might never be the number one MMO again. I think FF14 is currently bigger than WoW at least by most estimates, since we don't have all the numbers. But like most of the roleplaying story invested community of WoW actually switched over to FF14. Most of the casual raiding playerbase is playing FF14. Only some hardcore collection hunters, PvPers, and mythic raiders are really committed to playing WoW these days.
    I personally look forward to possible PvP in the Riot MMO. Riot really knows how to make PvP combat feel good. Valorant and League both feel really satisfying when you're popping off. WoW devs don't understand their own game's PvP at all. They disrespect the community that PvPs. We had two years of BFA with the most horrible gearing system for PvP in the history of arena. Shadowlands was only a minor improvement, with more improvements inch by inch. And only now after four years are we even close to a decent and fair gearing system. Only DF PvP gearing looks actually good.

I played League for years and the only thing that stopped me from playing is Riot's poor decision making. The art team is amazing, story team is amazing, balance team? Not so much. I would love for WoW to keep getting competition, and Riot's MMO could be it, but Riot is a but of a stray bullet and has the same chances of being a disappointed as much as an accomplishment.

Furthermore, the sequencing of events is often rushed and the music doesn't really hit the same sweet spot as WoW's. Yes, they have different musical styles but I don't feel like the LoL one really fits in as much with the general high fantasy style of WoW's.

    Not that LoL isn’t very popular but that was an animation music video. Music videos with good animations tend to get a lot of videos because people keep replaying them because they want to hear the music (and in this case animation too).

    I used to be an active league player years back, started somewhere around 2011 or 2012 and nerded it up until like 2016 or 2017 (Never broke silver...)
    And while the games could be *stupidly fun* it was also extremely toxic and unforgiving for the average joe.
    I've always missed League and while i could just login and play it right now, i'd simply be reminded why i stopped.
    Im hoping the MMO will reinvigorate my passion for the game and lore once again.

    I like riot games and love to play their titles. I'd be extremely pleased to see them pull off a good mmorpg, yet there is one major problem. They love in game purchases, both league and valorant offer a large variety of extremely well done skins for either champion or weapons. But I am scared of what would happen in an mmo. I doubt riot would completely miss out on a large market, especially with the high amount of competition, yet I don't want something similar to wow, where store items are the main focus and are visually appealing while the regular drops and items will end up with less appeal or are simple reskins of base content. I hope they make some right decisions, collectables, visuals like gear and so on. All have high value in an mmo and play a large role. But if it became too one sided I'd be rather not play the game.
    I do however, still have faith. Riots decisions and game design hasn't failed me for a large majority of the time, so I can see it happen.

    • @jonathanlin204
      @jonathanlin204 2 года назад

      right they have in game purchases only because they are a free to play game, if they dont have any items that cost real money then they make nothing? if anything there may be a overload of skins in the mmo but thats whatever tbh. i'd rather they fill the shop with skins instead of p2w which they done well. After playing both league and valorant i can say for sure that p2w wise both these games have been very free of it. valorant has a lot of expensive skins but thats it, gameplay wise it offers 0 advantage, same with league.

    • @Jeahy.
      @Jeahy. 2 года назад

      @@jonathanlin204 you can't compare an mmorpg with league or valorant though, in an mmorpg collectables and character aesthetics are a major factor they have to consider, filling the shop with amazingly made gear, mogs, mounts or whatever takes away a major part what am mmorpg is, in the end it's mostly about it and well having those things as purchasable items for real money splits the player base similar to wow. One core community which despises any kind of store item that you can buy for real money and solely appreciates the players that work for their character, that put in the hours to grind to make their character their own and another portion wich doesn't have the time or is capable of archiving these rare collectables so they opt to the in game store and start using their credit card. It intentionally splits the games community rather than pulling it together. Which heavily influences gameplay and player enjoyment.
      In league, you don't gain any advantage yes, nor do you get any advantage in valorant. Yet both these games don't have any other type of looting system or collectables that are obtained ingame that make a majority of the endgame. An mmorpg on the other hand solely focuses on collectables, its literally the core essence of its genre.
