I'm really enjoying your videos. I've been watching several of them these last few weeks. I'm preparing myself for a fence and a gate I'm going to build, just like these, at our new home here in Rhode Island.
I want to mount my fence on top of a retaining wall, the retaining wall is sloped so mounting on top isnt an option. Would you be comfortable drilling spaced holes in the middle of the postmaster post (in the channel section) and using the same anchors to mount the post on the backside of the retaining wall? I could easily get 3-4 feet on the side of the wall with spaced anchors before the post rose above the top of the wall.

I'd assume always dig (or drive) if there is an option but I can't find a solid answer out there. I'm having a concrete driveway poured next week and I'm planning on building a 6' horizontal cedar fence running the length of the slab after and I'm not sure how to direct the masons. any help would be appreciated.
It's a personal judgement call. In high-wind areas we tend to reduce our post spacing to add strength. If your driveway isn't poured yet you could always pre-set your posts and pour around them.

O’ Dan… I was with ya until you said “Paddle” latch. I mean the design, materials and assembly of the panel and gate had my complete attention. I even made a mental list to go grab a box of those concrete screws…. But, then you said, “Paddle”… A double flashback immediately zoned me out for the rest of this video. You see, when I was in the 5th grade, a box of milk cost a dime. Everyday, we had a milk or water break, during story time, in our morning classes. If you had a dime, you could buy a box of white or chocolate milk. If not, you could go to the water cooler and fill a cup to enjoy, while the class pet read aloud to the class. Well, I lived on a dairy farm so, I normally drank water. I chose instead to save my weekly fifty cent milk allowance and spend it on stuff I wanted… like baseball card packs, bubble gum, Grapette soda… etc. One day, the teachers pet, Rosa, told me that she forgot her milk money. We were in the coat room and no one else was around. So I told her I would give her a dime if she lifted her skirt and showed me her panties. Well, she turned red in the face and started to walk away. So, I upped the ante to $.50! That seemed to change her mind. She turned around and smiled and said, “OKAY… but you have to pay first. “ So, I dug out the five dimes and started to hand them to her. As soon as my palm opened, she grabbed the money, turned and busted through the coat room door, into the classroom. Before I could gather what had happened, I heard her holler, “Mrs Grant, Dave’s trying to look up my dress.” In quick succession I recall the door slamming open, a vise like grip upon my ear, a jerk that pulled me into the ring of laughing classmates gathered around the doorway and a walk of shame the likes of which no self respecting farm boy could endure… in front of his city slicker classmates. The walk proceeded at overweight, asthmatic, old lady teacher pace down a hallway littered with students and classrooms not yet in session. I almost got a break at the stairway leading down to the Principals office when her vise grip loosened on my ear. But, no such luck, she was just changing ears to put me on the other side. What seemed like an hour later, I landed in the chair facing the Principal’s desk. Then Mrs Grant told me to stay there and left. As I was sitting there trying to gather my wits, I looked at the wall behind the desk. The top row was a bunch of plaques and certificates…. I think… I don’t really remember well. Because, the row right below that was filled by a half dozen “Paddles”. As it started to sink in that, my fate may very well be hanging on that wall, the Principal came in and sat down behind the desk. He pushed his glasses up his ski slope sized nose and focused his beady mole like eyes on the back of my brain. I couldn’t swallow, I couldn’t look away… they bore through me like a comet shooting straight at me. Then he said, “You were caught looking up Rosa’s skirt. What do you have to say for yourself?” Well, that snapped me out of my daze. I couldn’t let this lie exist…. I had to set the story straight… so, I told him, “No! Rosa forgot her milk money and I told her I would give her fifty cents if she would lift her dress. I never got to…” At which point he put his finger in front of his mole face, shook it at me and said, “That’s even worse. Stand up and grab your ankles.” I did as I was told. I watched as he grabbed the paddle hanging on the right… number six. The three swats echoed through the open door, down the hall and up the staircase to the classrooms above. Ski nose, mole face then told me to get to class before the bell rang… that walk was even more excruciating than the first. Because this time it wasn’t just my ear that smarted… I was a convicted criminal who had endured corporal punishment and had to try to walk normal past a jury of my peers! Was that the last of it? Well, not exactly. I managed to steer clear of any one-on-one encounters with Ski nose mole face for almost 2 years. Then, I took a woodworking shop class. (It was either that or Home Economics.) Little did I know that the shop teacher had received a list of boys in his class from Ski nose, mole face… there were four of us on it. Mine was one of the four from our class, who had suffered paddling during our tenure at the school. While everyone else got to make a project of their choosing like a spice rack, cutting board etc… our project was to work together and make a Paddle for the Principal’s office. After we completed it, I was the one chosen to present it. After screwing up my courage I knocked on Ski nose mole face’s door and hoped that he wasn’t in. But, no such luck. He told me to enter. As soon as I opened the door, I saw the row of Paddles above his head. There were now seven. He saw the paddle I was holding and reached his hand for it. As I gave it to him, he asked, “Dave, have you been looking up any more girls skirts.” I caught myself just before I began correcting him… I almost blurted out that I only paid to look but never looked… but, the memory of what happened the last time held my tongue. Instead, I just said, “No sir!” He then looked down at his newly minted instrument of justice and said, “Good. Get to your next class before the bell rings!” Well Dan, when you said “Paddle”, those dark stains on my life flashed before my eyes and totally shut out comprehension of the rest of your video. Please excuse me for not going back and watching it again to see it… but, I’ll still give you a thumbs up and declare that this was a good danged video!
I don't know what your definition of high winds is but if you go down to a 6' spacing between posts you should be fine. I'm not guaranteeing it against a hurricane.

I've drilled a large hole into the bottom of the wood post, then hammered in a tight-fitting piece of galvanized steel pipe (maybe 6" inside post, 6" protruding out the bottom). Then drill hole slightly larger than pipe into concrete. Fill hole with Rockite then set post. Also need to drill a small hole in the side of the exposed pipe to let the air escape when you push it down (inside of pipe would trap air that prevents you from setting it all the way down).
I don't know what brand you bought, so that could be a factor, but there is supposed to be some flex in the posts, yes. ruclips.net/video/pI5defhDiEM/видео.html

Would the regular impact be good enough to crank those concrete anchors in? Wanna use those but don’t have a big impact like the one you finished it off with, not sure if what I have is enough power

@@SWiFence right and the right gust the post won’t hold it’s too much for anchor bolts like that they eventually work loose it’s far smarter just saw cut them you don’t have to worry about time wasted welding

There's nothing really out there for it that I know of. They do make so brackets to hold a 4x4 wood post but it's not recommended to use it for building a fence on.

Just your traditional walk gate width is what we would recommend.
How long are those zinc anchors going to last?
I wouldn't use anything other than stainless steel.

if there's a choice, is it better to install a fence gate on cemented posts or flange on cement posts?
If there's a choice I'd put the posts in concrete.

Do you ever use wood posts /on concrete, and if so what do you use to anchor them with?
We never use wood posts on or off concrete.

If you can find the posts locally I'm almost certain you can find a welder to weld baseplates on for you.

It's up to the installer's discretion. We sometimes do 6' spacing in high-wind areas. In others we do around 8'.

You should be fine. 👍🏻 It's nice to give it that extra pop with the big one if you have it, but you should be fine with what you've got.
Or just crank it with a breaker bar or torque wrench
I have used $50 impacts to drive in anchors. As long as you predrill the correct size it goes in easy
How close can you mount to the edge of a slab with that system?
From the edge of the closest anchor I try not to go closer than 4-5", that way there's still some meat out there.

@@SWiFence would an extra 24-36" metal bracket wedged into those 4x4 bracket and bolted in would give it the support a 72" post would need
