Thank you for the information your breakdown and delivery is very professional, you are cute btw. Having said that i am shocked the cost of living is very similar to Malaysia and some people from Myanmar look like Indians.
@Mr Twister Absolutely. We never felt unsafe. Everyone was friendly and happy to see us enjoying their city. The food is remarkable. There aren't many opportunities to have Burmese food in America, so I had never tried it before going. I was so impressed. The food is simple, yet bold and always delicious. The prices are very reasonable. There are certain times where you may feel like people are taking advantage of you, and you may be right. We experienced this on bus and cab rides, but were very pleased with the treatment from food vendors. The vendors are there for the people of the city, not for tourists, so the food is authentic and fairly priced. If you get the opportunity to go, you should definitely go. I can't wait to go back.

Good job in putting together the breakdown for cost of living in Yangon. However, there's one category missing, health care/medical expenses. Granted, you're not going to get ill every month but it would be helpful to give approximate costs for hospital charges and/or doctor's fees in case one does get sick. I know neighborhood clinics can be found everywhere in Yangon and doctor's fees in these clinics are quite reasonable. Of course, they can treat patients with only minor ailments, for serious injuries or sickness one would have to be hospitalized. I'm surprised nobody brought this up in the comments, I guess everybody was focusing on Whity's qualities!
Hi Cho Sett, you are quite right the cost of Medical Insurance is something everyone wanting to stay in Yangon for an extended period should consider. We did actually film a segment with Whity where she explained why we did not include medical expenses in the video. This was planned for the end of the video. But unfortunately my camera was out of focus when we filmed this so I chose not to include it. Instead, I reckoned - like you - that people would bring it up in the comments and I would explain it there. Basically, the reason we didn't quote prices for medical insurance is that it varies too greatly from person to person considering age and other circumstances. Therefore putting an "average" cost for medical insurance would not be very reliable, in my opinion.
Wonderful video ! Charming lovely presenter. Thank you Whity. This was precise and concise; exactly what I was hoping to see. Please keep these videos coming.
Nice job Whity! Very comprehensive, succinct and probably the most in-depth cost of living video I’ve seen on RUclips. You’re amazing Whity and your English ability is outstanding.... are foreigners allowed to buy cars, bikes and or own apartments?

Excellent Vlog. Whity is talented, speaks very good English & her presentation style is clear and charming. Yangon is sure a retirement option, especially for those who like Burmese culture.
Yes it could be a very good retirement option but the Burmese government has to change their visa rules to make it easier for foreigners to come here to live. It would be good for the Burmese economy.
The information in this video was extremely informative and helpful. Also, the presenter was so personable and easy to understand. Thank you for producing this video - I am very appreciative!

She even drove us around the city! The prices are very cheap too. The only problem i had was the language barrier. I surely miss Myanmar!

The presentation was super superb by Ms. Whity. personally I will be visiting Myanmar in the month of October 2019, before leaving watching all your videos again and again. I know I would love Yangon if I got a chance to visit. The Burmese people that I worked with in Indianapolis were very kind and extremely hard working. I hope whatever issues the good people of Myanmar face are soon resolved. This guide was awesome as are all the ladies from ESY.
Interesting comparison to other neighboring countries. There are certainly cheaper options available but as facilities become more available one would hope prices reduce slightly. So well presented in fluent English... a pleasure to watch the vlog. Thanks for this one. Bushyboy Oz.
Hi Ewen, yes currently the thing that is driving up costs in Yangon is housing. Yangon just doesn't have a lot of modern housing stock compared with Bangkok for example. That is changing and as more condominiums are built rents will begin to go down. If rents in Yangon were at Bangkok levels then it would be a cheaper option than Bangkok overall.
This young lady is articulate in narrating , and her command of the English language is excellent, and even better than some of the English youngsters in the U.K.This is an admirable quality and skill , and if the right door opens for her, she should apply to represent her country in the banking world, or even at the Burmese Embassy in the U.K. or USA. She deserves every success and good fortune in her career and life in general.
Yangon and Bangkok/Ho chi Minh are two different beasts though. I find Yangon way more expensive for what it is. You have to spend a lot more to get the same quality of accommodation that of bkk or hcm
Huy Giang some hotels may have different rate for local and foreigners, but majority of them don’t. Restaurants with proper menu don’t have different pricing. One time, I enquired a hotel in northern state as a local, and they still quoted the same price as their website which is 500usd/night. With that price, I might as well fly all the way to Nepal and see Himalayas up close.
Michael Moe very well said. Also their food is not that cheap but the quality is unacceptable compared to Vietnam or Thailand. As a Vietnamese, I cannot eat the local Burmese food and even their KFC tastes strange. But the local people are super nice
So EXPENSIVE, I'm also migrant living in Jakarta (Big Metro in Indonesia) living in super decent apartment only cost me $ 1.500 a year for studio type, decent meals only $ 1, restaurant $ 5, beer $ 1, transport in the downtown os free, night out $ 10 entry free first drink (cocktail), data internet $ 10 for $ 20 Gig Thank God Indonesia is lower living cost but I love to visit Yangoon for travel dream

Rent is cheap, for a capital city. Though I guess you mean relative to local income levels? Well, not many locals live in a Western-style condo in the capital! Rent in Yangon is *very* cheap for those with Western money.
Very nice and decent lady ...such down to earth approach and a product of great civilization of Burma .. so nice and so beautifully she presents ... i wish you all the best my dear ..ur so so nice ... love and best wishes from India.
Hey I saw Jessica on the bus. I miss her. Thanks for the cost of living analysis. Seems like Yangon is more expensive than a lot of South East Asian countries.
Well spotted - yes for the bus I used some earlier footage I had shot with Jessica. What makes Yangon more expensive is the cost of housing - otherwise I think it is on par or cheaper than most other places.
Thank you for your presentation of life affordability in Yangon. I have to admit that an upscale life is not as inexpensive as I expected vis-a-vis a place like Bangkok. The city is much more developed than I initially expected though. Keep up your great work!
Whity gives an excellent commentary , she is clear , to the point and a natural presenter. Myanmar appeals to me , I would try the street food as it looks amazing. Very inexpensive , esp compared to Europe , N America and Japan especially. Apart from the culture and food , a big draw for me would be the Thein Phyu Stadium in Yangon , for the Lethwei !!
Just moved to Yangon a month ago. As cheap as this city is, to live comfortably it's gonna cost quite abit. I can't really eat street food as I have a weak stomach but I go to restaurants that aren't that costly. Usually cost around SGD$4 for a filling meal. For the same price, you can opt for a fast food restaurant like KFC too. As I haven't got my license yet, I am using Grab everywhere I go as I do not know how to bargain/usual price of Taxi for a certain distance. It might be abit more costly than flagging down a cab but at least it will give me a constant price and I do not have to bargain. Don't really need a luxurious condo but at the same time I'm afraid of rats/cockroaches so I currently live in a 2 bedroom mini condo for SGD$500+ a month. Furnitures were not provided so I had to buy my own but at least I get to shop for furniture that are more suited for my taste. Nightlife...if you're on a budget you can get a pint of Myanmar Beer for like SGD$0.80 at bbq restaurants. Harry's bar is quite cheap and affordable to me too, but it might cost 3x that amount. Clubbing is quite cheap here as compared to other countries. I spend around SGD$200+ a night and get to sit at the VIP Sofa, so it's not bad. If you can't finish your bottle you can keep it there too. KTV is alot more expensive as compared to clubbing but it is a good experience. Service anywhere and everywhere is really good, everyone has good manners and they assist you as if you're their family. Most of the local shops here sells fake branded stuff so if you want an authentic item, I suggest you shop at big malls like Myanmar Plaza. Branded items may be more expensive as compared to Hong Kong or Singapore, so I suggest you buy clothes that plain/not fake at local shops. You might need to bargain for items that you really like though, I suggest you walk around the mall to see how much the average price is, if possible it is good to bring along a local friend when shopping. It is a cheap city to live in if you know how to budget yourself and is really worth it to spend that extra money to be more comfortable. Here, you can really get what you pay for.
ZAMSKEE As a girl who was born in Myanmar, it’s much cheaper living in Yangon then living in Thailand! However it depends on how you budget. I live in the US now and from my point on view if I work in the US for a month I can survive living in Yangon (rent and everything) for a year ngl. Basically most ppl in Burma don’t even make $100 USD a month.
Thanks for sharing! The rent seems to be high side, but food on the lower side vs. Thailand. What kind of Visa options are available for long term stay?
Yep the thing that makes Yangon pricier is the cost of rent - pretty much everything else is cheaper. I don't know the details of all visas, but in general visa options are still limited unless you have a job in Myanmar. They have a 28 day tourist visa but the best option for long stay is probably the 70 day business visa. To get the business visa you will need some sort of documentation that you are there to do business in Myanmar such as a letter from a company. Hopefully, the government of Myanmar will become more open to the idea of foreigners coming to live in Myanmar and ease up on the visa rules. Its a golden opportunity for them considering how expensive Thailand is becoming.
WOW! USD $600/month is quite expensive! One could rent a comparable condo in Bangkok, Thailand, for USD $400. Yangon must definitely be more expensive than Bangkok. Excellent presentation! Well done Vee!
I do agree, she makes Yangon sound way more expensive than Bangkok, and I have been living in Bangkok for 10 years... no wonder there is so many illegal immigrant running away from Myanmar to Thai then, running away from the cost of living ...LOL... or someone is pulling our leg :p
Great video, very informative...Whity is eloquent and charming. I would like to know the visa options though. As you will be aware, Thailand’s systems are becoming a bit of a chore.
Hi Homie, Yeah I am afraid that Myanmar's visa rules are still a bit archaic. You can get a 28 day tourist visa or a 70 day business visa. To get the business visa you need some sort of documentation that you are there to do business in Myanmar. The government here doesn't seem to have considered the option of foreigners coming here to retire or stay long-term. The people of Myanmar are very welcoming and friendly to foreigners but the government may still be marked by the many years Myanmar was a closed country, fearful of the outside world. I really hope this will change a lot in the next decade or so - if it does Myanmar could boom.

Sounds like a place like Chiang Mai, Thailand is a better value for money.
@@zamskee9403 i think Thailand is a bit cheaper than Myanmar.
@@Nlah27 I've been using telenor for both my wifi and my mobile and I find it pretty good!
@@tonyr.2321 Not that I've noticed, maybe I'm just in the clean parts of town as I rarely go out here haha
What is about health insurance? how the system work there?
Thanks for this informative video,fantastic !!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very informative great video thanks...look forward to visit Yangon 😍👏🏻
This girl is a cutie. I loved Yangoon.
