That is called in Myanmar "Thanaka", a paste made from ground bark. The wood of several trees are used to produce thanaka cream. These trees grow abundantly in central Myanmar. It is a distinctive feature of the culture of Myanmar, seen commonly applied to the face and sometimes the arms of women and girls. This is a natural cosmetics for skin. Apart from cosmetic beauty, thanaka also gives a cooling sensation and provides protection from sunburn. It helps to remove acne and promote smooth skin. It is also an anti-fungal.The active ingredients of thanaka are coumarin and marmesin.

There are 2 versions, the red one being more sweet and the white one being more light as it has chickpeas. I loved the white one while my mother favoured the red one. It's the thanaka. It is a paste made from ground bark. The wood of several trees are used to produce thanaka cream. These trees grow abundantly in central Myanmar. It is a distinctive feature of the culture of Myanmar, seen commonly applied to the face and sometimes the arms of women and girls.

The movies are very amazing and beautifully made as the one that presents us the movies! I wanted to ask see people who apply something on the face what is it and for what ceremonial or other reason thanks in advance for the answer

    • @thu1310

The stuff we apply on our face is call ‘thanakha’, it’s paste made from ground bark. It actually helps our skin keep cool since the weather in Myanmar is usually hot. There’s no special reason or occasion needed in order to wear tanakha, some people wear it everyday. It basically almost like a form of makeup here! It’s also a very big part of our Burmese culture ☺️ ( hope this answer your question and sorry in case there’s some grammar mistake, english isn’t my first language )

@@thu1310 The first thing is thank you from the bottom of my heart because I am learning about the peoples of the Far East and it is very interesting to me and there are many questions but hope in the future to get beautiful answers like this. As for English so it's not my language I work with translation so I understand it well because it's not easy to work in a language not really yours
