- In this series of 38 tutorials you will quickly learn all the basics of working with the software.
The tutorials are organized in seven sections and were designed to be easy to follow, clear and to the point.
Basic Interface
videos 1 to 4
In the first part, you will learn the overall interface, how the layer structures work, what is the logic of the timeline, how you can animate already created characters and how to export your animation.
Basic rigging with bitmaps
videos 5 to 12
In the second part, we will show you how to create a puppet from a Photoshop file. You will learn how to prepare the illustration, create a basic skeleton and even create distortion meshes and Smart Bones to animate expressions easily.
Basic Animation
videos 13 to 15
In the third part we will cover concepts about movement, how to use different keyframes types, why and how to use the graph and even create cycles of animation.
Vector Drawing
Videos 16 to 21
Once you know all the basics of working with images, we will move to the vector drawing tools coming with Moho. In this fourth section you will learn everything related to the drawing and filling tools, the basics of masking, the power of Liquid shapes and, finally, how to draw an entire character in Moho.
Rigging Vectors
videos 22 to 26
The fifth section will show you the difference between rigging vector and images, how to set up Smart bones for vector, rigging and entire character, creating Vitruvian bones and animating the vector character.
Animating Backgrounds
video 27
With all that done, in the sixth section we will move to set up our background. You will learn how to create parallax to give more depth to your scene, use the camera tools and even add automatic wind to your scene.
More tools in detail
videos 28 to 38
Finally, we will cover other tools that can be very useful for your characters and scenes, such as the different options of the timeline, controlled bones, the powerful particle system, frame-by-frame layers, automatic physics, scripts, actions, references, quad meshes, brushes and layer comps.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! i have been so c̶o̶n̶f̶u̶s̶e̶d̶ kerfuffled about this for so long and this is straight forward and easy!
My favorite kind of Switch layers are the ones Nintendo makes
you great ty for teaching im really happy
It's not really clear how you're removing the switch functionality from on.
I'm trying to find it too. it seems you only can undo it. Hopefully they can reply about how to do it.
Yeah. Whoever's editing these videos isn't exactly conducive to the learning process.
Hey @mohoanimation, a little help? See around 00:05:20; how DO you remove Switch functionality from a folder defined as a Switch folder?
@@illustreightr2630 Sorry, we missed these comments before. Chad is just pressing undo there.
You could also right click the layer and transform it to a Bone layer. In some cases, Groups and Bones are similar, so it would also work here
@@mohoanimation извините, но у меня так не получилось. ((
@jeffreydewaalwebdesign The same problem😔
I do love the free How-To tutorials that Moho has put together with the release of 14, but It seems like the course files for this character do not have the same layer organization for the eyes and eyelids as shown in the tutorial. Makes it confusing to follow along with the video tutorial.
Teacher I don't know when I make the switch the mouths I make move from their place not in the zero frame...only when I star animating the next frames I have them in a folder that is skeletonized and all that is in the camera folder ,, including everything
Hi. great series! first time diving into moho and I'm really enjoying it so far. one thing that I've missed here is removing the switch functionality of a group. how do you do that? It's covered at 00:05:20 but I can't tell if there is a shortcut key pressed there or something else
Hi thanks for the feedback. Chad is just pressing undo to make the switch layer become a group again.
You could also right click it and transform it into a bone layer. Groups and Bone layers are similar in some ways, so both could work here.
@@mohoanimation Thank you very much for the super quick reply. Much appreciated. That makes sense.
@@mohoanimation thx!
@@mohoanimation Sorry, it appears that a switch layer can't be converted in a bone layer. I'm in Moho 14.1 Build 20231027 (64-bit) and with a right click this option is missing. A bone layer can be converted in a switch layer, though.
@@maurotrabisondi1717the version 14 can't also convert to bone layer when converted previously to a switch layer
It will pe a better idea to make a thunbnail view aldo on switch selection tool ... 🔥🔥
Thanks for the great tutorial so far. Anyway: When I right click the eyelids layer and chose "group with selection", nothing happens. I can't figure out whats wrong here. Thanks for the feedback
Nevermind. Wasn't on frame zero lol.
this happened to me too! thanks for the solve
@@fuchsschule Thank you for making this mistake before I did so I could just read your comment and figure out what I was doing wrong ;0;
how to remove the switch functionality of 'on' (eyelids), making both the eyelids appear on the screen at 05:22 ?
Hi. Chad just pressed Undo there
at 5:21, how did you remove the switch for "on"? You seem to have used a hotkey. Thanks!
Ah, Moho replies below: "Chad is just pressing undo to make the switch layer become a group again.
You could also right click it and transform it into a bone layer. Groups and Bone layers are similar in some ways, so both could work here."
Are there shortcut keys to switch from one switch layer to the next? I want to switch frames in the Switch Layer window though- can this be done?? Just like using the arrow keys to go forward/back in the main timeline but in the Switch Layer.
Alt + C and Alt + D on Windows. Option + C and Option + D on mac.
THANK YOU!!! @@mohoanimation
Odd question: can the contents of the switch layers be animations?
Yes. It can be any kind of layer with any kind of animation
@@mohoanimation Thank you!
Also, see below; we also had a question re: REMOVING (or toggling) Switch Layer functionality, based on the above video (00:05:20).
