When removing the 6 screws, remove the captive screw last, there will be a space between the two halves of the case at the location of the captive screw which is the perfect pry point to start separating the two halves.

true but I suggested this before long ago and the average user was more confused and had more issues trying to use it. For one, imagine buying an rog ally x, all you have is the rog ally x, the ally only has one nvme slot, you need two nvme slots to clone a drive completely like that also. So ideally you need a whole pc or even at minimum an external nvme enclosure. you cant just download the app and wam bam thank you mam teleport the data over, it introduces alot of what if questions and needs that the person will need to overcome and think about. NVME cloner = wam bam, zero skill needed. Most people I encounter dont have the software skills to even update windows much less figure out that app lol. I try to keep things simple and easy to replicate for people who are brand new to handhelds as most people I get on this chanel are. Its way easier to use a cloner or cloud recovery. Just way way easier and requires less skill or prior knowledge that us as tech guys take for granted.

Thanks for the confirmation the tomtoc case fits. I have always had a really thick case for my Ally E1E and then now swapped to an Ally X and it does fit, but I've been wanting to downsize to a thinner travel case so carrying it around is more portable in my backpack.

I got the black Ally X for my 40th yesterday :) love this beast haven't gamed on it yet still setting it up...sucks that you have to use the MS Account on the device though .
All windows based handhelds require it. Every single one. It includes 3 months of Xbox game pass too but you need a ms account too for that. The only way around this is to not use windows and install Linux like steam os but then you loose a ton of functionality
They do but alot of times they stick to the backplate and come out when you remove back plate. They aren’t captive like the lower middle but they just get chillin in place
Working on any cooling mods lately? I got a lil chunk of aluminum off a older hd 5850 heatsink off the vrm area , fits perfect on the o.g ally and I used a cell phone cooler on it , had a thin thermal pad and it sat on my cpu area...it seemed to help 3 to 5 degrees when I was testing in 10w mode, im curious if id see much difference with it all in the ally x...im curious, I may order a extra backplate from accessories asus and have an extra that way I can possibly cut a hole for the cell phone cooler to make more contact with the heatsink..
I have something in the works .. something that’s on the way that I dunno if I can technically talk about yet but I would totally hold off on buying a backplate ;) hang tight I think you’ll like it ALOT ;)

They fixed my biggest complaint which is the battery but the 7 inch screen with those ugly bezzels still remain unchanged. im gonna wait for the ally 2. im just gonna stick with my desktop rig for a while.

Double sided drives will run warmer actually. A friend of mine is running a double sided drive similar to the wd sn850 and it’s a hottttt drive. Reliability seems to be fine on the 990 pros and they have a good warranty too
On the back of the cpu/apu ? Eh maybe but the temps are quite good already. If you have airflow moving over the heatsink it could help 1-2 c but without airflow it won’t make much difference to be honest. Just will add more weight. My temps run in the 60s when playing at 25w
Just bought that case! Thanks for the tip! One question, i absolutely hate the "paddles" on the Ally X. Coming from an Xbox elite controller and im used to something way more substantial than the buttons on the back of the X. It does not appear to be but even if they are, with how they are designed it won’t affect them in the long run in any particular noticeable way. However what does matter is the joysticks being pressed in cases. Fortunately for this case as long as you position it correctly as you close it, you won’t have any button presses with those joysticks nor pressure applied. I’ve been throughly testing it and another case and I would say if your after a slim case this is a great one but if you want something a little bigger stay tuned for this weekend I have another option I’ll be showing off

@exsparkxelraz5569 no worries all you need to do is swap the drive. Plug in the device for power and it will boot into bios. Hit y button and then look on the second tab for recovery. Follow the prompts and you can get a fresh install of windows downloaded to the drive from The cloud. No need to backup anything
I noticed you have the battery cable going along side the heatsink , mine goes across the top of my heatsink which is a very thick T-force heatsink. Do you think heat will be a problem for the cable? Or are the pretty heat resistant.
Cables are very heat resistant and it’s fine even when using thicker heatsinks but if you can get a little tuck it’s better but it’s not going to put enough pressure on it likely to matter
Do the rear macro buttons have clearance with the case? Worried about them having constant pressure. I purchased the skull and co. case and it seems to be an issue with it the rear buttons being compressed when in the case.
I have something I could probably print and share to make bigger buttons. I love the smaller buttons myself as most do but for sure I could imagine you’re not also the only one who would like a different or bigger button. I’ll see what I can do

There is a factual reason as to why people advocate to let your SSD thermal throttle and it's NAND longevity. NAND works similar to battery cells where a charged cell is a 0 and an empty cell is a 1 for binary. The electrons in a charged cell move around violently in colder temps but are more stable I'm warmer situations. So letting it thermal throttle can increase SSD lifespan. But in a device this compact id recommend a slim copper heatsink just to prevent damage to other parts

Also I have a video long ago where I made direct contact with manufacturers and connected with advisors to get to the truth behind drive cooling. You should never let a drive thermally throttle. Many drives will fail earlier if they are ran more often in those states. Most 2280 drives were designed for desktop use with heatsinks in mind and manufactures say they do suggest cooling them for optimal performance and longevity.

This isnt about the video, but youve investigated update issues before. I just had a windows update apply, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Extension - 32.0.11021.3002 Once it applied and my ally x restarted, the settings show 1080p with 150% scaling, but the screen appears to be more like 100% or lower with the scaling on the system. The square system info you can open through command center is so small its unreadable unless you hold it nearly all the way to your face.the command center is usually 3x3 icons, but now its nearly 4x3, and the folders are tiny as well and make the text nearly impossible to read
You’d have to take apart the back plate every time and do this whole process. Watch the thumbstick mod video I did. The other option is printing the Xbox elite series stick adapters but so far I tried them and they don’t work that great. I may need to adjust my printer settings though
Did you ever see my water cooled rog ally video ? Even with it water cooled, in game performance wasn’t that much diff running at 30c at 30w turbo lol. Also when I’m playing at 25w turbo it sits in the 60s on mw3 so the temps are epic. Battery life I get 3 hours easily on mw3 with some tuned settings but if I use the ugreen battery bank I can get 5-6 hours easily tho. The only cooling mods really worth doing will come when handhelddiy drops the backplate but even that happens it really won’t give a boost in fps unless maybe at 30w turbo with a pretty rare situation. The cooling and efficiency on the x is soooo good
@@cppctek Yessir I've seen it. But knowing Ryzen it's and any other chip for that matter the cooler the less power it uses to get more performance. You should try to do test with accessible cooling mods how much equivalent performance you gain at 15w vs higher wattages without mods

@Fireish_- yeah I check all the time and since the ally has a unique joystick they don’t interchange with anything out there not even close to being anything else that I can find. You can find people who own 3d printing businesses that can print them from thingiverse tho. The second a plug n play off the shelf option is available I’ll be the first one to get them and share them tho.
I’d totally grab an ally x open box for 600-615$ in fair condition. All the ones I’ve seen people buy were fully checked out and worked perfect and were in epic condition. I think xg mobile are super over priced and under perform for the money. Tons more egpus exist that work on the ally x for much cheaper. I also loveeeee the battery life on the x and tons of other things. It’s worth it to me 100%
@cppctek There isn't any open boxes atleast not now . I heard alot of people where caught doing a return fraud putting the og in the X box and returning them with black Silicone case atleast that's what I read from a best buy worker . Anyhow I'll keep my eyes open . I'm not spending 800$ to have basically the same results is what I keep telling myself ! Thanks for the idea I'm sure there will be returns just like the og
@youngjustin82 Best Buy still inspects it before you get the refund and they inspect it before the re sell it. So it would be a 0.1% chance they could ever sell you an og as an x. Check out the Reddit page r/rogallyx and look up open box. I would trust and have trusted open box at Best Buy and never been burned.

Thanks ! I have not but I’m not a huge fan of frame generation or fluid motion frames just for the games I play it’s always given me too many caveats. I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Some love it and some say let it cook
I tried it on my Ally X out of curiosity and it was really sluggish! I'm talking like 5 mins just to open the software let alone change the settings. I ended up reverting back to the normal drivers because it was practically unusable for me.
awsome mods and video!! i got a cheap 7$ black heatsink on my 4tb silicon power drive , also a 1tb sd card....tons of games to jamm to..122games and still like 635gigs free...i used lazesoft disk cloner, took a few hours but went fine cloning the 1tb to the 4tb, added more games, the 1tb out of my x worked fine i n my og ally, even armory crate had the cpu boost icon i could add in the quick access panel, my wifes allly didnt have that after updating to the new a.c...i ended up redoing windows, a couple games had low sound so i wasnt sure if a x driver issue, but o.g ally seems to run fine but now no cpu boost option for quick access...can still turn it on but i dont...my x was a lil warmer with it on so i dont run boost...still wanna add a heatsink on my cpu i have off an old hd 5850 graphics card and add a cell phone cooler...wanna just try and see if itll help a degree or 2...kno itll add a lil weight but my o.g seemed to run better that way..
So the tomtoc case doesn’t hit your left joystick in the case? I purchased one and read reviews and others stated it did too. I know if I messed with the position of the X I could get it closed without it pressing but it’s just easier to put it in the case and go rather than mess with it every time.
I’m sorry. I just would physically be unable to accommodate and work around a few particular things. If you need help though feel free to hmu on discord. Just be super careful when doing it and take your time. It’s risky but worth the risk if your careful imo
There’s some performance loss had if you take the drive out the og ally and run it inside the x or if you copy the data over same thing and power profiles and a few other things and drivers are different too. So you won’t have an optimal drive at all
Is it necessary to unplug the cable to the battery when installing a new SSD? Or can I just "move it to the side" and insert the new SSD? P.S. The SSD I plan on using is the Samsung 990 Pro with the heatsink built in. THANKS
I’m sorry but I can’t due to some logistical issues and I have turned down all request since I started modding handhelds. I get tons of request but due to some logical reasons it’s impossible for me to make it happen long story short.
I spent like 199$ on my a1 mini printer and it paid itself off within a week for mods I would have bought online if they were available plus it’s useful for around the house. I’m a dummy with 3d printing so the a1 mini is a match made in heaven for me. I tried an ender 3 and a few others and destroyed my brain trying to get a good print prior lol 😂
@@cppctek Yeah that's what I was thinking, it helps justify the price if you'll use it to print other random things around the house lol I was looking a one on Amazon, it's very cheap and easy to use but only prints 4x4 inches. That A1 mini is only 40$ more and can do 7 by 7, plus it's a good brand. Was it big enough to print your Legion Go back plate or did you use a different printer?
Of course but the price was significantly more at the time. I paid 290$ for this without heat sink. Heat sinks grow on trees around my office but money doesn’t

Macrium reflect is the simplest cloning software and allows you to expand partitions to match new drives and its free to use for personal use

i seen the tom toc cases dont fit if you use thumbstick grips, so most of us still have to wait for a newer ally x case sadly

When I do cloud recovery I don’t do the save files or anything. I just do a fresh recovery.

Are you going to get new rog ally x hard case by Asus. And I got clear blue sticks for my ally. I found someone to print them for me for 14 bucks after shipping.

@@cppctek it really does and I'm pretty sure it's the same price as the soft case Asus sells. I think I'm going to pick up the hard case aswell. Yea I'm stoked they will be here any day. The only sucky thing is the seller said he's going to stop making sticks for the og ally and start making them for the ally x. But at least they on there way.
This isnt about the video, but youve investigated update issues before. I just had a windows update apply, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Extension - 32.0.11021.3002
Once it applied and my ally x restarted, the settings show 1080p with 150% scaling, but the screen appears to be more like 100% or lower with the scaling on the system. The square system info you can open through command center is so small its unreadable unless you hold it nearly all the way to your face.the command center is usually 3x3 icons, but now its nearly 4x3, and the folders are tiny as well and make the text nearly impossible to read
Any experience in removable thumbsticks for easing mobility?
You’d have to take apart the back plate every time and do this whole process. Watch the thumbstick mod video I did. The other option is printing the Xbox elite series stick adapters but so far I tried them and they don’t work that great. I may need to adjust my printer settings though
I'd luv to see cooling mods, cooler APU more performance and or battery life
Did you ever see my water cooled rog ally video ? Even with it water cooled, in game performance wasn’t that much diff running at 30c at 30w turbo lol. Also when I’m playing at 25w turbo it sits in the 60s on mw3 so the temps are epic. Battery life I get 3 hours easily on mw3 with some tuned settings but if I use the ugreen battery bank I can get 5-6 hours easily tho. The only cooling mods really worth doing will come when handhelddiy drops the backplate but even that happens it really won’t give a boost in fps unless maybe at 30w turbo with a pretty rare situation. The cooling and efficiency on the x is soooo good
@@cppctek Yessir I've seen it. But knowing Ryzen it's and any other chip for that matter the cooler the less power it uses to get more performance. You should try to do test with accessible cooling mods how much equivalent performance you gain at 15w vs higher wattages without mods
Would love if the see through sticks for the ps5 would work with og ally
Unfortunately they don’t. Wayyyyyy too big. Can’t even force them or cut them enough to fit. I tried. Also I tried Xbox sticks too lol 😂 only option. Is 3d printed for the og

@Fireish_- yeah I check all the time and since the ally has a unique joystick they don’t interchange with anything out there not even close to being anything else that I can find. You can find people who own 3d printing businesses that can print them from thingiverse tho. The second a plug n play off the shelf option is available I’ll be the first one to get them and share them tho.

I’d totally grab an ally x open box for 600-615$ in fair condition. All the ones I’ve seen people buy were fully checked out and worked perfect and were in epic condition. I think xg mobile are super over priced and under perform for the money. Tons more egpus exist that work on the ally x for much cheaper. I also loveeeee the battery life on the x and tons of other things. It’s worth it to me 100%

I heard alot of people where caught doing a return fraud putting the og in the X box and returning them with black Silicone case atleast that's what I read from a best buy worker . Anyhow I'll keep my eyes open . I'm not spending 800$ to have basically the same results is what I keep telling myself ! Thanks for the idea I'm sure there will be returns just like the og
@youngjustin82 Best Buy still inspects it before you get the refund and they inspect it before the re sell it. So it would be a 0.1% chance they could ever sell you an og as an x. Check out the Reddit page r/rogallyx and look up open box. I would trust and have trusted open box at Best Buy and never been burned.
@cppctek I understand but it's funny how now there isn't any open boxes available and people at best buy sometimes don't know what there looking at . All you have to do is take the sticker off the bottom and swap em . I'm sure they all got caught by now . But there isn't any available right now . Really seems like legit info .

Thanks ! I have not but I’m not a huge fan of frame generation or fluid motion frames just for the games I play it’s always given me too many caveats. I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Some love it and some say let it cook
I tried it on my Ally X out of curiosity and it was really sluggish! I'm talking like 5 mins just to open the software let alone change the settings. I ended up reverting back to the normal drivers because it was practically unusable for me.
Any news on Hall effect joy sticks?

It’s snug but not like it and it’s an epic fit for that snug and minimalist case. I have another option to share this week tho you might like too

awsome mods and video!! i got a cheap 7$ black heatsink on my 4tb silicon power drive , also a 1tb sd card....tons of games to jamm to..122games and still like 635gigs free...i used lazesoft disk cloner, took a few hours but went fine cloning the 1tb to the 4tb, added more games, the 1tb out of my x worked fine i n my og ally, even armory crate had the cpu boost icon i could add in the quick access panel, my wifes allly didnt have that after updating to the new a.c...i ended up redoing windows, a couple games had low sound so i wasnt sure if a x driver issue, but o.g ally seems to run fine but now no cpu boost option for quick access...can still turn it on but i dont...my x was a lil warmer with it on so i dont run boost...still wanna add a heatsink on my cpu i have off an old hd 5850 graphics card and add a cell phone cooler...wanna just try and see if itll help a degree or 2...kno itll add a lil weight but my o.g seemed to run better that way..
I couldn't get a clear view but is the pivot on the stock dpad for the ally x a ball point or a rounded cross like the og ally?

So the tomtoc case doesn’t hit your left joystick in the case? I purchased one and read reviews and others stated it did too. I know if I messed with the position of the X I could get it closed without it pressing but it’s just easier to put it in the case and go rather than mess with it every time.

Yes but you need a battery cable adapter and a backplate spacer.

I’m sorry. I just would physically be unable to accommodate and work around a few particular things. If you need help though feel free to hmu on discord. Just be super careful when doing it and take your time. It’s risky but worth the risk if your careful imo

There’s some performance loss had if you take the drive out the og ally and run it inside the x or if you copy the data over same thing and power profiles and a few other things and drivers are different too. So you won’t have an optimal drive at all

I’m sorry but I can’t due to some logistical issues and I have turned down all request since I started modding handhelds. I get tons of request but due to some logical reasons it’s impossible for me to make it happen long story short.
Kinda sucks no one is selling these dpad mods online, you need to spend hundreds of dollars to buy a 3d printer for a 3 cent peice of plastic 😅
I spent like 199$ on my a1 mini printer and it paid itself off within a week for mods I would have bought online if they were available plus it’s useful for around the house. I’m a dummy with 3d printing so the a1 mini is a match made in heaven for me. I tried an ender 3 and a few others and destroyed my brain trying to get a good print prior lol 😂
@@cppctek Yeah that's what I was thinking, it helps justify the price if you'll use it to print other random things around the house lol I was looking a one on Amazon, it's very cheap and easy to use but only prints 4x4 inches. That A1 mini is only 40$ more and can do 7 by 7, plus it's a good brand. Was it big enough to print your Legion Go back plate or did you use a different printer?
