Just did this mod, huge thank you for the walkthrough!! I do want to mention for anyone seeing this comment in the future - these stick caps DO WORK (Extremerate PS5 replacements as shared in the vid description). The replacement caps have 2 tabs inside of the opening that the analog stick shaft goes into which makes the caps too tall/have issues with rubbing. I drilled these 2 tabs carefully so it's completely flat inside and then it worked perfectly. Didn't have to use a ton of pressure, calibrate afterwards, or anything! Btw, yes the replacement sticks are 1mm wider on the post than stock but is not an issue with anything. Hope this helps someone!
thanks a lot for this comment, it helped me out! edit: I can't recommend the advice in this comment enough. I got the clear black sticks from amazon. I had reverted back to the stock sticks because of the rubbing and inability to get the dot to go to the side circles in armory crate for calibration. After skimming the comments on the video to see if anyone else had this issue I saw this comment. I grabbed a flashlight and saw the two tabs that were mentioned. I just used the included screwdriver to scrape the tabs away and got everything as flush as possible. I took my ally x apart again and put the replacements in, pressed them as firmly as I could and noticed the rubbing issue was at least gone. I booted into windows and ran the calibration without issue. Rebooted to bazzite and everything is working perfectly. Thanks again @augustlarson359 and @cppctek, this is such an awesome mod.

The og ally sticks are much smaller and totally diff units but you can get diff joysticks for the ally x like Xbox or maybe ps5 style. Stay tuned I’m working on some
I did this mod. I loved it with how great it looked, but reverted back to original thumb sticks because I ran into issues with the range of motion; I could not get them to calibrate properly with the modded sticks. In games like Kingdom Hearts for example, when pushing the stick all the way left, the character would simply walk, it would take a significant exerted press to get the character to run; a similar issue was observed across multiple games. If anyone else ran into this or have suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
Check out the mod tip video I released directly after this. See if that info helps. ruclips.net/user/shorts2RG-Zh0TbVs?si=GCyaaysoH6tU2HKW Also check this short. It shows I have full range of motion after calibration. I guess I’ll make a 3rd follow up to clarify some tips

Are you asking me if they fit or are you telling me yours don’t fit ? If they are the same brand and model, they make them in various colors. They fit mine. I have a few sets from The same brand. They work just fine.
I saw a post on Reddit about it but I haven’t seen any videos or any examples so I’d have to see it in action to know what’s causing the wobble. How bad is the wobble ? Can you dm me a video on discord and maybe I can come up with a solution for ya. 💕🤠
When I replaced my right joystick and went to calibrate it in armory crate, I noticed that when it comes to the up and down motion it will calibrate perfectly but when it comes to the left and right motion, it doesn't go all the way to the edge of the calibration circle. It's almost like I have to use a bit of force a little for it to go all the way to the left or right edge. What could I have done wrong or is my joystick base maybe defective?
I think I give some tips n tricks in that video or this one The Top Rog Ally X Mods - Tips & Tricks To Make It Easier #rogally #allyx ruclips.net/video/u8Rje88XnVA/видео.html If you still have issues pop by th discord because we’ve have enough people do it by now who can help. The sticks height may need to be adjusted slightly but either way you should be able to get them to pass calibration. Stock I had a joystick that was tough on one corner to pass and hit the far right side but when playing games it’s perfect. Once you play them a lot they also settle in and will calibrate easier later on too. But def watch part 2
When looking into it I found what the issue is. When I install these on the left joystick they work perfectly and even pass the 2 calibration test. However with the right one what the issue is, is that the bottom of the dome is 1mm too wide compared to the stock ally x dome. I felt like something had to be off so when I placed both the mod stick dome and the stock ally x dome together u can see the 1mm size diff. This diff is enough to have that error that you did in your videos. It was also the reason why it wouldn't go to the left or right edge for calibration. Once I placed the stock joystick back on, it worked perfectly. So maybe finding a joystick replacement where the dome is the same as the stock dome
Interesting. I don’t have any range of motion issues and it works great after calibration, although one stick can be slightly harder to calibrate at time but I’ve been using mine for 2 weeks every day and enjoying them a ton. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. I’d like to see the size difference if you can dm me on discord. I know there could be a small manufacturing tolerance difference between sets. But the particular set I got on Amazon for the ps5 works perfect. I know the Xbox sticks will not fit for sure. Did you get the same ps5 sticks from my link ? I’m very curious to see the difference and help figure this out to make it work like mine. Also in thr handheld mods group there’s been other people do theirs and they work perfectly as far as everyone that’s reported back to me
I just filmed a short with my ps5 sticks and showed they go all the way to the line on the circle after calibration and work as intended. You can see they do go past the red ring on the 4 corners but that’s typical behavior of alps joystick modules. You’ll notice even stock does that. ruclips.net/user/shorts2RG-Zh0TbVs?si=Wta1D99k4Oq_NyLu
When I had installed mines my left one was just like yours perfect. My right one however would touch the circle line perfectly if I go up and down but not left or right unless I use some kind of force. I then readjusted my right joystick and tried again but this time it was able to go up, down and right perfectly but not left. I don't know if I was just having bad luck or what not but I readjusted again and had to put my outer threshold on 95%. At this point it finally was able to go all around perfectly for now. I don't know if maybe the magnets in the the right joystick are being affected by something but so far I'm able to get it working now
And I see you have a joystick calibration video but if I can't calibrate it through armory crate it's not really worth it I shouldn't have to go through all the troubles but definitely thank you
2 things please let us know what bits you use on the x cool screwdriver so people don’t strip the screws, also why don’t you keep with the Xbox them and do swappable joysticks 😮
I’ll eventually do swappable joysticks when I can have some spare boards to solder new joysticks into. The soldering process is tricky. Also I did the elite series d pad mod which I’ll try to show today. And on the screwdriver set you can use just a standard 00 Phillips head I believe.
@@cppctek it’s something I always wanted to see on the rog ally and legion go even better would be how victrix pro bfg has where the thumb sticks pop off and on and you can swap the position of the sticks
Hey man love your mods! i just had 2 questions if you dont mind :) 1) when do you think all the asthetic mods are gonna rush in (clear back plates, different button etc)? 2)when do you think all the accessories will start coming? because theres alot of bigger things that need adjusting.

@Ziege101 if they were rubbing they have to be pressed down more. The tolerances are super tight on some of them. I’ve got a set that does it if not super pressed down. I’ve got clear ones and clear purple. Two diff sets from same brand. I’ve seen it with others but most can resolve it with re adjusting the height

i like the touch pad too on the steam deck but it cant play call of duty or xbox game pass stuff or alot of online fps shooters I play so i ended up getting rid of it. Also the ally x has a trick up its sleve, you can use the right joystick as a mouse and its really easy. the trackpad on the steam deck is cool but in a real game, its a gaming handheld after all, its never useful for me in any games I play. Its cool for using desktop and surfing the web but i have a laptop for that.

Thanks ! I actually already did the swap. Files are diff the steps are very similar tho. I have to edit the video to put up on RUclips but il try to get it out this week
Will this fit the OG Ally? My thumbstick cover is worn out, looking for a replacement. Thanks!
@6:48 is the answer.
The black clear ones don’t fit?
Are you asking me if they fit or are you telling me yours don’t fit ? If they are the same brand and model, they make them in various colors. They fit mine. I have a few sets from
The same brand. They work just fine.
@ figured it out
What thumb stick is that on rog ally og its verry cool
3D printed them
@@cppctek cool
I'm among the many with a wobbling left trigger on Ally X, do you have any advice or simple mod to rectify it? BTW, love all your awesome Ally mods!
I think I give some tips n tricks in that video or this one The Top Rog Ally X Mods - Tips & Tricks To Make It Easier #rogally #allyx
ruclips.net/video/u8Rje88XnVA/видео.html
If you still have issues pop by th discord because we’ve have enough people do it by now who can help.
Have you got a battery mod coming looks like a guy has done it already 🙏
Hey man love your mods! i just had 2 questions if you dont mind :)
1) when do you think all the asthetic mods are gonna rush in (clear back plates, different button etc)?
2)when do you think all the accessories will start coming? because theres alot of bigger things that need adjusting.
Clear backplate is in the works. Stay tuned for updates. And accessories are also being worked on as well. I’ve got a few more mods coming too
@@cppctek That's so exciting to hear, im definitely gonna be tuned in!
Great video
thank you brudduh!
@@cppctek bro bro guess what. I found someone to make me clear Blue sticks on Etsy cost me 11.07. so you don't need to ask around I'm so excited. The company or person makes black ones so I messaged them and told them about you, how you got clear color sticks but you have a rule that you wont make nothing for anyone. And the guy said bet I got you just put in the color in the customer request when you order. So ty for the inspiration to be so persistent and not giving up on getting me some clear blue sticks for my Rog Ally. I'm geeeeeeked lol ✝️🙏🏼🫶🏼🤟🏼
Man I ordered them sticks the little neck part of the sticks are too fat what I mean by that is this on the original allyx thumb sticks they're skinnier the neck is skinnier than the clear ones. That being said it makes it hard to calibrate I took them all Stick with my black ones until I can find the proper joysticks but definitely thank you it was worth to try. 😊 I guess I can shave down the skinny neck to them a little and they would work
Where is the link to the heatsink?! You’ve changed it since your last vid.
I’ve tested a ton of diff ones. You can use any you like. The ekwb ones always in an out of stock and it’s not the best or easiest to work with either.
I just checked Amazon it’s sold out and only one third party seller has one and it’s 30$ lol. That’s a hard no from me. I paid 8$ for this one over a year ago. I’ve used hundreds of nvme drives and diff heatsinks. Any heatsink there 3-5mm thick is gunna perform the same and do the same thing
@@cppctek great stuff, thank you as always for being active with your community!
💕💕🤠🤠🤠
I'm posting a video this week on this 67wh battery mod. I joined some group thing on Facebook and everyone wants it so I'll post the video here and link it on the group. I don't really know how else to get it out there because I'm not a social media kinda guy. Are you in any groups maybe I can post it on?
My discord is the best place to share it or RUclips
@@cppctek I know I tried that I couldn't figure it out 🙄
@ksrnate post it on Reddit then
@@cppctek Yeh I don't know what that is 🤣 I'm old! I'll just let you know when I've uploaded it on here 👍🏻
@ksrnate it’s basically a forum sort of. Just go to Reddit.com and look for the rog ally group. You can post in there it’s free. I don’t do social media like Facebook or insta sham or tik tok. I just use RUclips and discord and Reddit so I can cut out all the drama lol or most of it anyways. Also I’m not young either lol. Try to go to Reddit. I think you’d like it. Tons of useful info and you have have good conversations there as well with intelligent people.
I copied this mod and it didn't work for me. The thumbsticks suggested didn't work for me correctly. Returned and I'll will stick with the default thumbsticks from now on.
It’s worked for a ton of folks. Watch the calibration tips n tricks video I made after this. They are compatible for 100% sure. Tooo many people have followed my guide
Unless Amazon sent the wrong ones
@@cppctek Sorry, I wasn't trying to dis this video. I'm more annoyed with extremerate as one of the thumbsticks I got doesn't seem to fit and rubs. I tried everything and gave up in the end. Thanks for the video though.
@@cppctek Yeah that worked with the other one but this one just won't fit. I pushed it down as hard as I could. I'll get some different ones and try again and hopefully, I'll have more luck.
I Like more Steam Deck with touchpad
i like the touch pad too on the steam deck but it cant play call of duty or xbox game pass stuff or alot of online fps shooters I play so i ended up getting rid of it.
@@cppctek I also want an Asus Rog Ally X. The problem is it's too expensive.
@@cppctek I'm curious to see what Steam Deck 2 will be like. I heard it's coming out in late 2026. I hope it won't be too expensive.
@@mariomarino4205 regardless valve doesn't like windows for many reasons so they like to stick to Linux cause its safer so that means games like COD won't be of avail just about any windows games that won't support Linux.

Oh wait, I'm early 😅

Bossman! I have another question, lol. So, im looking to buy the meta quest 3 for when im at work. Do you think it'll be able to run on the legion go?
Howdy 🤠 unfortunately handhelds are not going to give the most desirable experience of your trying to do vr games and using the handheld as the compute power. But if it’s just for Remote Desktop use it’s great. You can also run a ton of games and thing off just the headset with no pc required tho. Like vr chat. Best saber and tons of games.
@@cppctek wait so I don't need a pc to run the meta quest? Ohhhh ok lol
