In this video I talk about protein moisture balance for natural hair, How to do a protein treatment for 4c natural hair, damaged hair, or high porosity hair, how to know if your hair needs protein or moisture, and how to stop shedding, ie breakage, on natural hair through protein. Protein treatments can be done on relaxed hair, curly hair, low porosity, high porosity hair, colored natural hair, heat damaged natural curly hair, at home yourself the diy way. However, its important to know how when and if protein is for you before you use it. Today I will be using the Aphogee Two 2 Step Protein Treatment. This video goes into how to help grow repair and treat heat damaged hair, or any type of damaged hair, retain natural hair length, repair damaged hair, stop breakage to help get hair thicker and fuller, and grow longer faster and prevent breakage by understanding how when and if you should add protein into your hair regimen. I show you how to add protein to you hair, different ways of how to apply protein treatment to hair, and how use Aphoogee 2 step treatment.

Seun knows hair and she is obviously brilliant and intentional. All that knowledge. Girl you should become a best sell author. A whole generation of black girls need to glean from your wealth of knowlege about black hair magic.
I am a big fan. I actually permed my hair when you went natural. Now you are making me wanna go natural again.
Update: I am now transitioning to natural majorly for lenght retention.
I also noticed my natural hair appears darker and stronger than the permed version.
I don’t have type 4 hair & I’m non-Black (just here because I love watching videos about type 4 hair!) but this explanation of the protein-moisture balance was very helpful!
Aw I'm glad it was helpful!❤️
Why do u like watching this if u don't have 4c hair ?¿ I'm confused
For educational purposes! I like learning about how different textures of hair work differently from each other
@@98DSi STRANGE
It’s not that strange if you want to be a hairdresser one day!
I love how you always break down your explanations, and back it up with science 😍
I'm really glad you enjoy it!!!❤️
I really like the Aphogee treatment. I recently started using it a couple of months ago, and it helped repair damage after I colored my natural hair with a box dye. My hair was weak, plastic-like after I dyed it. After using Aphogee, my hair feels the way it did prior to coloring it. My coils have their normal pattern again as well
Hii how often do you do the treatment. I did it once and it worked but I have no idea how often I should use it
@@LifewithTemmy Every 6-8 weeks
@@izahra1997 thank you
This is what my stylist uses on my 4C super thick hair once a month. It’s a very good protein for your hair. My hair is super dry anyway so she also uses a super moisturizing conditioner along with protein. I sleep in the protein and come back the next morning to complete my styling the next morning. Been working this way for years.
I like the aphogee 2 minute keratin reconstructor for a less intense and less messy treatment
When I was consistently getting my hair straightened I would deep condition every 2 weeks and do a protein treatment every 8 weeks. When I stayed with this routine, even though my hair had heat damage it didn’t feel brittle or overly mushy
I’m like a 4a /3c but my hair is really soft and fragile, I’m black but my hair breaks off like crazy when I get braids ughhhh. I was here getting knowledge for my kids, but I’m glad she dropped some jewels for myself 😊😊
Thanks I agree. Once I started doing Protein Treatments every six weeks and stopped using heat my hair has improved drastically. It is stronger and softer. It used to feel like a brillo pad.
Do you do Aphogee every three weeks? Or some other form of protein?
@@ChiOfo I do Aphrogee every 6 weeks & green clay every 2 weeks when my hair isn’t in braids. But I do take out the braids every 6 for the protein treatments. I’ve been doing this cycle less than 6 months.
I understand the protein/moisture balance but this is still so informative! This is how I'll explain it from now on!
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Ugh I love watching someone with my hair type. Your protective style advice is the sole reason my hair is so long now. 💖
I have to get like y'all. My hair is stuck at the same length.
@@denisewilkins2545 watch seun's video on protective styles, and just all of her videos lol. I've learned so much from her already
When you were talking about your hair in your graduation video, I was wondering if you had or needed a protein treatment. I'm a lifelong learner and teacher who absolutely loves science. I wanted to be a cosmetologist. However, I my mother wanted me to go to University. My college entrance exam slated me as a potential chemical engineer. Your graduation video is one of the 1st ones I've seen in a long time.
Last light, I was researching protein treatment videos because, months ago, I bought the packets. This weekend, I am looking forward to my Seun Binge. Congratulations on all of your succeses
I've found that rubbing the protein treatment in my hands (especially when I use gloves) sort of thickens it and gets it creamyish. Which helps application. Something to try next time.
I’m going to try that next time. I usually shake the applicator bottle so it gets thicker and foamy, but I haven’t tried rubbing it in my hands.
This is the only video that was explained in a way for me to understand. I’m autistic and all the over videos were SOOO confusing. Seriously thank you so much my gosh
That's awesome!
Seun’s one of the only natural hair RUclipsrs that I can trust
This makes soooooo much sense! Finally a video that makes use of visuals to explain protein/moisture balance! THANK YOU 🎉🎉🎉
Her natural hair journey is gonna be so good I can tell 💯
You need to be a hair professor or something 🤣🤣😂 because your explanations and analogies are on point!!! Thank you for sharing. This is VERY helpful. So happy to see you back 😊 🤗
hahah, thank you!❤️ I've always had a thing for teaching
I absolutely love the spaghetti analogy, I am understanding the concept for the first time✨👌
I'm so glad!!❤️
The spaghetti was a perfect analogy 👌🏾
Just a tip the bontankia protein treatment is another intense treatment but the ingredient are better ad I believe the product is cheaper. And it's black-lantia owned which is great.
Hi, you have a link of the product?thx
Really informative and clear instruction on protein. Thank you for following the given directions. I actually saw a RUclipsr use a blow dryer to dry her whole head with Aphoghee in her hair😳
lol, thank you!!!❤️
The last time used the 2 step treatment, I would pour step one in a empty water bottle and then shake shake shake. By doing this it would foam up and would easier to apply to my hair. Then I would continue with the process.
Great tip…I struggle with applying this step. Thank you
I use a spray bottle and I’ve been able to save and not waste using this method.
Basically, our hair needs to be Al dente lol
EXACTLY LOL … just don’t throw it up against the wall 😂
Lol
Good one!!!! 😂😂😂
The spray bottle is the BEST way to apply this. You won’t lose a bunch of product and you still work it in with your hands 🤗
How you explained the balance between the protein and moisture and how it goes back and forth. That was on point, illustration was 💯
My hair is high porosity so protein is very important for me. I also use a rice water leave in conditioner that get off etsy. It has a lot of moisturizing properties as well. It smells delicious of hibiscus and black vanilla!
Shannon what is the name of the conditioner. Please share Thanks
@@sabrinaalston1243 Hey sorry I can't tell you my comment keeps getting deleted! I wish I could! 😢
Look up fermented rice water leave in off of etsy.
@@ShanyShannon Thanks Shannon would you happen to know the name if not I will look it up.
@@sabrinaalston1243 It's not named anything specific just type in *fenugreek horsetail fermented rice water leave in conditioner* off of etsy the bottle is a kind of reddish color. The sprayer is a trigger spray.
I can't say her BRAND name my comment gets deleted. 😢
Thank you so much for this clear explanation ! I watched so many youtubers speaking directly about porosity and it was so unclear to me. You explained it in such a good and simple way. You really are a life savior !
By the way I just found out your channel but I keep watching your videos. They are so interesting. You explained so well, it really gives me confidence about taking care of my hair. Since I had a really bad experience with my hair care, I gave up a year ago but your videos give me the courage to give a new try.
I have super soft hair but I kept hearing from youtubers that moisture was the key of growth and it literally destroyed my hair. Thanks to your video I finally understand why it was bad.
Thank you so much !
Thanks for providing the visual demonstration along with the explanation. I really appreciate the time you took to help us.❤❤❤❤❤
I'm really glad it was helpful!
I almost never subscribe to channels, but this is the best video I've ever seen regarding my hair. Thank you for your hard work and I'm glad to be a new subscriber.
I used this product on my niece's hair over 30 ago, it's a good product for hair breakage. I still use it when I see breakage.
Thanks for this information. I have been experiencing a lot of breakage, I now believe my hair would benefit from an good protein treatment.
Woow the analogies, explanations & obvious extensive research you did wow 🙌🏾
So glad it was helpful!
nice video it’s good u have control over ur hair! no matter what i do my hair is dry. i deep condition, i do twist outs, use oils and creams but nothing helps. i get fairy knots that take out big chunks of hair out. girl i’m just finna chop it all off
Girrrl, you can be a teacher 🎉. Best explanation ever!
Thank you! 😊❤️
Aphogee is a great it I have used for 36 yrs off and on a little goes a long way I love the 5 min. Keratin conditioner.
Info, that not a lot of people know or speak about. Thanks Seun.
❤️❤️❤️
Yessssssss 😭😭😭 I was about to cut all my hair off,I've been dealing with so much breakage and I've never had this much shedding/breakage before I'm going to give this a try tomorrow, but hey if all else fails then I guess it's big chop part two lol 🤣
Exactly where I'm at in my life right now 🙃. Let me know how it goes!
How did it go for you?
How did your hair turn out?
Omg, same boat! How did it turn out for you?
I miss you over the relax hair side, but always love your attention to detail 😍
aw, thank you!!❤️ This can apply to relaxed hair as well too!
@@SeunOkimi winter beating me bad I was just looking back to find your video on how to stop breakage
This! Starting keratin treatments when my hair is out have been the BEST thing for my hair. My hair is fine so it provides strength but I also have lower porosity hair so I do the treatment only like 2 times a year
one of the best explanations! such clarity 🤍 much love
thank you!!❤️
I've always used the protein from Aphogee as protein works nicely for my hair. However, I don't rinse it out. I apply the protein with some humectant oil and or some good carrier moisturiser and it works a treat and the process is not unsustainable lengthy either. Tbh, I don't think I'm in to these very long processes. I really don't think there's a need. Love your videos generally but all videos, not just yours that provides very long processes now need to reconsider. Cos I don't think loving your hair equals lengthy process and to prove you love your hair. Sometimes leaving these rinse out in the hair or only rinse a little to leave in the hair works a treat. Should try it.
I use a light protein leave in treatment everytime i wash and condition amd this routine thus far has helped to maintain the protein/moisture balance in my hair.
Btw this video is very educational, thank you for sharing .
What do you use? And have you noticed growth since?
I was subconsciously looking for this comment! I’d fallen into the trap of over-moisturizing, in response to a fear of being protein-sensitive. My routine is: wash twice with a mild shampoo, apply moisture-rich conditioner mixed with oil, then apply light-protein leave-in with oil. I wash the conditioner/oil out with cold water and do a protein pack when I feel my hair needs a little more keratin than usual. I currently have braids in and truly feel my hair would have fallen out, had I not come up with this balancing process. I use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, Hello Hydration, olive oil, and Jamaican Black Castor Oil leave-in 💕✨💕✨💕✨💕✨💕✨💕
I love how you explain everything in detail, makes it easy to understand 🤗❤️
Thank you!! I'm really glad!
Watching and saving all your videos on type 4 hair so I start caring for my natural hair better..Thank you!
Let's talk protein yass my favorite RUclipsr

Seun🥺❤lemme just say as I am typing this my eyes are watering. This just makes me so proud so happy so everything. GURLLLLL LOOK AT YOU I am amazed your presentation on point and your hair just wawwwww. This really helped me alot because I have high porosity hair and after I moisture it and everything in the next 2-3 hours it wiuld be dry but I think climate plays a roll as I live in the Caribbean but yhhh this is great I love it will resume with the protein treatments and tell you how it goes. This video was long awaited❤😍‼️
Aww, it makes me so so happy to be able to help!❤️❤️❤️
Your analogies are amazing, I just understood hair porosity for the first time
One week I deep condition, the next week I do protein treatment(hair mayonnaise) and I alternate in that order. The only times I don’t alternate is when I wash my hair after having a protective style for weeks.
Ahhh first !! Love you Seun !! 💕
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've just started using moringa and brahmi powder (protein powders) before protective styling and my hair seems so much healthier and longer. Love your videos ❤
That's awesome! thank you!!!
So do you think diy protein masks are effective in restoring protein-moisture balance? And also what ingredients can be used (apart from what you mentioned)?
@@hajarasanda471 you can use fenugreek and hibiscus flowers. I got the recipe and knowledge from eugenia kelcy on youtube, she has other ones. Hope this helps
I cannot thank you enough for your content. Your advice has really helped my hair grow. I got a lot of complements recently 🥰❤❤❤
thoroughly informative and the real life analogies made this all easier to understand. thank you for this, and i appreciate it. i will def get aphogee
Why did you choose this over something like olaplex? I'd love to see you try that out ! Tfs 💜

Beautiful as ALWAYS ❤️ 🌹
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Thank You so Much for explaining this in detail. This was a Great Video. You hair is growing it looks so healthy and thick.💕💕
thank you!
Ayo, my stylist damaged my hair with the blow dryer. She would always use prior to braiding my hair and never used any heat protectant. This video was mad insightful. Gotta get back on point. Gonna try this!
I'm really glad that it was helpful to you!❤️
Find another stylist that knows should use a heat protectant. This is why I am weary of going to salon. Once you find someone actually about hair care stick with them. I'm still searching.
The queen of hair growth
thank you!!!!!❤️
Can you please add the list of potential products to add protein?!
No problem!! On it! I just finished adding them to the description box!
@@SeunOkimi Thank you ❤
That was very informative. But I’ll advise to use like a shower cap when hair-drying your hair. It’s more effective that way and there won’t be direct heat to your hair. And it will also allow your hair to get done at the same time, there won’t be a need to use a hand hairdryer to get the inside parts. That’s how they do my hair at the hair salon
Thank you! Nice! The instructions actually state to make sure to not cover the hair with a plastic cap while drying for this particular brand!
Best explained protein treatment for hair video I hv seen thus far
I just did this lol I’m sitting under the dryer right now
lol!!❤️
Perfectly explained!
So glad you liked it!!
I was just seconds from cutting my hair off AGAIN this year until I saw this video… man fuck hygral fatigue. I’m gonna treat my hair so much better after I pick up this aphogee treatment.
I think pre-pooing with a penetrating oil like coconut oil before you shampoo your hair would prevent the moisture overload.
Very Informative. Thanks so much! I was recommended this by a former hairstylist, it helped my hair alot but I never understood why I was using it. Thanks again!!
I gonna try this! Thanks so much for the video. I’ve been noticing my hair is too soft as well lately.
love how you simplify it ..
You explain this so clear
Thanks for the vid my hair always has breakage!
I'm happy to help!😊
@@SeunOkimi your hair is really growing fast. Your very pretty.

Believe it or not, I found very few videos on people applying this on their hair, and if there is, they are doing too much rambling.😢
Thank you for this insightful video. My stylist charges a hundred dollars to just do this (without style, moisture treatment is an extra charge), so, hopefully I can do this right and save money.
I just bought some aphogee products im excited for the health thanks seun
This is the third video Ive watched. Why doesn’t anyone show when you add the pink bottle?

I like that it is very informative and straight to the point
thank you!!!!!❤️
thank you for this! also, your hair is stronger when you wash it with cold water. hot water makes it weak and limp, im not sure how you wash your hair but hope this helps!
Impressive and simply delivered. So just subscribed. Thanks
Great video shawty, wish I saw this before I did the aphogee 2 step a couple months back😭. Was extremely sticky😭
Very detailed and informative I actually have an better understanding & love an Demonstration was included thanks for the upload God bless Much love
I started using a shampoo and conditioner that had protein in it after I had a lot of breakage, now my hair feels so much better. with no more hair breakage.I appreciate this video. Thank you.
That's great!!!!!!
Please what is the name of the shampoo and conditioner? Pleaseee
@@tamarapreye_ I believe you can use any shampoo and conditioner with protien in it. Just make sure to check the ingredients just in case you may have an allergy to one of the ingredients in the hair product. Also I only used it until I finished both bottles of the protein shampoo and the conditioner. After that I just started using my regular moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
A leave in conditioner and I wear a bonnet. Finding the right hair regimen that your hair loves is important.
Thank you🙏🙏 how often u do this treatment? Once a month?
I’m so glad I came across your videos. The past four months my hair has been very flat soft and limp. I’ve never heard of Hydra Fatigue until I came across another one of your videos. What’s worse is I’ve been going to the same salon for years and the woman couldn’t even tell me what was causing this. I have relaxed hair and I literally deep condition every single week sometimes she mixes two types and my hair has gotten worse. Please tell me what can be done to reverse this.
