Firearms do make for a more polite society, huh?! Great song from my youth. I'll never forget the morning after the plane crash. Our high school was full of kids crying. I may or may not have been one of them! Thanks Don.
I grew up in a house where you didn't touch the radio dial. Well, not with anything you wanted to keep. Country was the only music. Now that's not to say there wasn't a little bit of CCR, Neil Sedaka, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Monkeys, Donna Summer, Olivia Newton John, and others thrown in the mix occasionally, because we also had a TV. But, If I hadn't watched a friend singing and dancing along with "Gimme Three Steps", I might never have taken any other music to heart. I owe my eclectic music tastes to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their music inspired me to listen closer and find something in every song. If I didn't like the music I'd find something in the words. If I didn't like the words, I'd find something in the music. Now I love it all, even the stuff I don't like. Every picture tells a story, and the music brings it home.
An existential song in as much as "it ain't no fun staring straight down a 44!" Life becomes much clearer when it is hanging in the balance, ha, ha, ha! Not that I'm recommending any such experiences for anyone, LOL! 🤔😏💘👌
Actually it happen at the west side tavern in jacksonville and the name linda lou was actually Allen Collins grandmothers name. Ronnie changed the name to protect the girl.
The name according to bob burns the original bassist comes from a running joke within the band which has links to the song camp Grenada the involvement of coach skinner was just a coincidence
@Candice Scott Oh yeah, I now about the expression since I use it myself, but sometimes it's literally true. I was probably wondering out loud if they were actually in Dodge. Also, welcome to the channel!!
Great background story! Love this song! My favorite line is right after the first verse. They only put the line in live versions. Says " no, I ain't gonna fight you over your _____!" That's real life!
RockN2Country They just go by Van Zant and one of their songs is “Takin Up Space” they have some good songs. It’s the lead singer from Lynard Skynard and the lead singer from .38 special.
Hey Wysteria, thanks for the rec---I'll put it on the list. In the meantime, here's one I recently did by Dwight: ruclips.net/video/ryTj6E4JzLc/видео.html
Southern Belles know how to make a man feel good!! I mean, giving me three steps AND $2 forgiveness? Please, it doesn't get much better than that for a Jersey boy. ;-)
The big thing going on was right before the show Ronnie van zant was told nobody walks on the stones tounge which y he said BRING ALL THE MULES OUT HERE Gary said Ronnie said f-mick jagger
The behind-the-scenes stories are hilarious, and this one is now memorialized forever in this song. I never did understand what he meant by that, now I know.
From this same concert he felt so disrespected that during Freebird he dragged and pushed the 3 guitarists out onto the tongue. The players seemed a little nervous about it and were a little restrained and stiff during the guitar section.
To bad we lost Ronnie Van Zant at the height of their fame. They would have had so many more hits. RIP Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines
Can you imagine how much great music we'd've gotten to enjoy had Ronnie not died? The band wasn't the same after that, but still put together some good songs. But what a pioneering group they were, even (kinda) calling out their label, MCA, by referring to them all as "city slickers" and "Yankees" and making real clear he's gonna watch where the band's money goes.
great song - funny name this band is it pronounced Linnird Skinnird?? love the lyrics and the music and found it really entertainin !! We dont know anything about guns here so find it quite scary and intriguing - but also loved the piano playing in it - must get some piano work done before I wont touch it again after listening to your programme !!! thanks - x

@Todd Sauve So many good lines in that song, but that one grabs your attention reeeaalll quick!!
@@RockN2Country Yup, terrific song writers and musicians. Love them to this day!
That's when you say, " I'm gettin the hell outta dodge...
3 steps 💞
Best rock band ever to me
That is the Knebworth Festivial version from England in the summer of 1976.
Beer beer, bandanas, softball, and Skynyrd 💓
That sums it up!
@@RockN2Country lol
Interesting I never knew this was a true story. Thanks for the interesting tidbit. This band and CCR are my two favorite southern rock bands
Actually it happen at the west side tavern in jacksonville and the name linda lou was actually Allen Collins grandmothers name. Ronnie changed the name to protect the girl.
I'm still here ty again
I'm getting the hell outta dodge is is a reference to gun smoke,a tv show that was popular then
great vid!

Larry Jungstrom was the original bassist. Bob Burns was the original drummer.
Drummer
Okay here ya go...wait for it
Very true about the high school gym teacher
"Get da hell outta Dodge" is just a expression. LS guys were known as the baddest, toughest band, often getting into barroom brawls and winning them.
@Candice Scott Oh yeah, I now about the expression since I use it myself, but sometimes it's literally true. I was probably wondering out loud if they were actually in Dodge. Also, welcome to the channel!!
ADORE YOUR REACTIONS (!! BRILLIANT !!! TRY JELLO ROLL SAVE ME!!!!? PLEASE!!!
One of my favorite songs
YEEE HAWW, BRING ALL MY MULES OUT HERE AND KICK'M ONE TIME FOR YA!!
@Joe Dirt Amen!! Love that line. And welcome aboard the channel!
Thanks
Yes I'm having fun ty again
You're welcome!
Gotta love Lynyrd Skynyrd and this is a classic. Great review.
Thanks, Missy!!
My brother went to their high school

2 of the Van Zant brothers did a couple country albums together
Did not know this. Gonna have to check it out--you have a rec?

Ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do

Alabama, Charlie Daniels, and Travis Tritt all have Southern Rock connections. The Eagles also tell stories in their songs much like country.
Dwight youkum has an amazing song called waterfalls. Its worth checking out. The first time I listened to it, actually listened to it, I cried.
Hey Wysteria, thanks for the rec---I'll put it on the list. In the meantime, here's one I recently did by Dwight: ruclips.net/video/ryTj6E4JzLc/видео.html
When that plane went down it altered the course of southern rock as we know it. I truly believe if Ronnie hadn't have died they would still be on top
dem boys brang tha noise
Oh yeaaaaah! We just might make you an honorary son of the South. I may even forego the $2. LOL Feeling generous ;-)

The image from this album cover was taken in front of an office my dad worked at in the 70s.

Can you imagine being in N. Florida in the early 70, seeing LS open for the Allman Brothers.

We pretty much all pronounce it just the way you spelled it. And have fun with the piano!!
This was recorded from Woodstock I do believe which was awesome. I was there and 18
Do Travis Tritt. Here's a quarter call someone who cares.
