    There are not enough words to thank you and express my gratitude for how much this video helped me. I have been struggling for months to get Putty to work to, set up VPS- with no success. But, once you mentioned GIT in the video, I decided to give GIT a try- and it worked FLAWLESSLY! I was able to set up a VPS with OVH Cloud. You ROCK!!

    Virtualmin is very nice development and people need to support! indeed i use it as newbie around a year and still seems fine... i believe it should have some pay button on panel in order people give support by clicking... We need to give support to this team.
    thanks

    For anyone watching this after having install issues, opt for Centos7 over Centos8. I had Postfix and Let's Encrypt problems on Centos8 installs but Centos7 went much smoother.

    Great Videos Joe, thanks for your efforts. Could you add some video(s) about DNS setups. Currently I manage my DNS outside of Virtualmin, a mixture of Cloudflare and Registrar based DNS. It would be nice to better understand how setup Virtualmin as the primary source with those other DNS providers reading the details from the server running Virtualmin / bind.

    Well-web net offers amazingly-fast, reliable, offshore dedicated servers. Price from 1990 rub (its $30). Free setup Windows/Linux. They do have a very nice list of server features. I value great server and support, all at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Well-web net as your dedicated server provider. (More config on russia version)

    I couldn't figure this out. I have spent hours working on setting virtualmin up and still I have not nailed it down. My porblem is I am not able to access my websites after I create them as virtual servers. I also noticed my ip address in virtualmin itself is 127.0.0.53. What am i doing wrong and how to fix this? FYI, I am very new to virtualmin. Help any1? And oh yeah I have looked in the internet for answers but I could not find what I am looking for. My problem are 1) I cant access website it gives me the "page can't be displayed" 2) unable to access virtualmin gui if I am not on the machine where my server is hosted.

    Where is the command line argument to install ONLY virtualmin and not touch my other server packages. (example: sh install.sh --virtualmin_only)
    centOS 8 does not like to be force-fed LAMP instalation. it must be done manually and individually.
    Is there a single option to install virtualmin only? What is the command line?

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  4 года назад

      The installation process is open source (all the pieces are on our github), uses native RPM packages, and uses CentOS-provided packages whenever possible. There is nothing "force-fed". There is documentation for manual installation on the website, but if you do that, we can't help you with any problems you have in the future, and you will absolutely have problems.

    25:38 One question about DNS, if I use Cloudflare to handle my domain's nameservers, would I leave the Vultr server out of the config so that I just have my two Cloudflare nameservers as the primary and secondary?
    Thanks again for the help!

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, if the Virtualmin server will not be acting as a name server, you'd want to change the name servers to the Cloudflare NS servers. You also will want to turn off DNS in the Features and Plugins page. This will prevent the "Preview Website" function from working, since there won't be local DNS for the domain.

      See the supported OS page on our website. ARM is not a supported architecture at this time.

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  2 года назад

      Also, Debian 11 is not yet supported, but will be in Virtualmin 7. Also, if you search the forums, you'll find several people who have it working on ARM by using procmail instead of procmail-wrapper (which prevents Virtualmin from handling most mail processing, but you can't realistically run ClamAV on a small computer, anyway, as it's too demanding).

    when I select Re-Check Configuration: give me the error----- (Virtualmin could not work out the default IPv4 address for virtual servers on your system. You will need to update either the Network interface for virtual addresses or Default virtual server IP address fields on the module configuration page.)

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  5 лет назад +1

      Does your server have an IPv4 address? The lowest end Vultr servers now only have IPv6. Virtualmin supports that kind of configuration, but you'll have to manually configure it for that...the default setup assumes there will be at least one IPv4 address. It's also possible that the default IP isn't detected correctly and you'll need to manually specify the address in the Virtualmin Configuration, but none of my installs on Vultr have had that problem...I think they use a pretty standard network configuration that our installer detects correctly.

    I got an error:
    Please enter the name of your primary network interface:
    how to resolve it? kindly reply. Thanks

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  6 лет назад

      That means your primary interface could not be detected and you need to tell it the name of the primary interface. What Linux distribution and version are you using? Are you installing on some sort of virtualized server? You can see the names of the network interfaces using the `ip addr sh` command. There will probably be something like "lo" and some other interface...the other one is probably the primary interface. You need the one that has the IP address of your server assigned to it. On my systems, I have something like "enp4s0", but virtual machines will have some other name ("eth0" is common, but that's not what you have as I think we'd detect that correctly).

    • @badarali3714
      @badarali3714 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply.
      I did the same and now everything working perfectly.
      I have one more question which is as follows:
      What if i add a domain and wants to delete it after words because it is already being used by my other server. Would it delete from both of my servers or from just the one i delete it from?

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  6 лет назад

      Just the one, unless you've set the servers up to sync to one another (Virtualmin doesn't really do that, but there are ways to replicate domains when using Virtualmin with Cloudmin Pro, and some users just use rsync or some other backup tool to maintain a hot spare of their domains across multiple servers).

  • @michaelortega804
    @michaelortega804 4 года назад

    when running the wizard, on the domain part i get an error : demo.mycompany.com domain cannot be resolved on this system?

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  4 года назад

      You can bypass the check by checking a box (as I did in the video, I'm pretty sure) when configuring DNS servers. You'll obviously need DNS to work eventually, but if you're hosting the domain on your Virtualmin server, it won't resolve until you've actually setup the domain on the server and configured glue records at your registrar (which is outside control of Virtualmin).

    • @michaelortega804
      @michaelortega804 4 года назад

      @@virtualmin i did add custom name servers to my domain registrar and still no resolving. may have to reinstall virtualmin on my vps.

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  4 года назад

      @@michaelortega804 No, I'm talking about the checkbox on that same page that allows you to disable the check name resolution of the name servers. If you named the server something that doesn't resolve yet (because you plan to host the domain its within on the server itself), you must disable that resolution check (because it can't possibly resolve immediately after installation because the domain hasn't been created yet or delegated to your Virtualmin server).

    • @virtualmin

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  6 лет назад

      Postfix is installed, by default, when you install Virtualmin, and it is the mail server we recommend unless you have really good reasons to choose something else (Virtualmin also supports Sendmail and QMail). Any mail server we support will support unlimited email addresses.

      Virtualmin I didn’t realize postfix was a mailbox lol how would I get rid of the ssl mode when logging into site bc I don’t want users using IP address to login to their account im through vultr and when I did config for initial install it said something about dns zones and I had to disable BIND to get it work

    • @virtualmin
      @virtualmin  6 лет назад

      You're confusing different things. Definitely do not get rid of SSL mode when logging into Webmin/Virtualmin; that would be extremely dangerous. What specific message did you get that led you to disable BIND? And, do you want BIND disabled or do you want Virtualmin to manage your DNS zones? If the latter, don't try to figure out unrelated stuff. Fix whatever led you to disable BIND.

    • @macgamingyt3549
      @macgamingyt3549 6 лет назад

      Virtualmin I don’t want to disable it just want it to be able to get to login page without having to put .vultr.com or full IP address in to get to sign in page so guests wouldn’t know ip and I’m getting this message for config.
      The status of your system is being checked to ensure that all enabled features are available, that the mail server is properly configured, and that quotas are active ..
      Your system has 1.95 GB of memory, which is at or above the Virtualmin recommended minimum of 256 MB.
      Virtualmin is configured to setup DNS zones, but this system is not setup to use itself as a DNS server. Either add 127.0.0.1 to the list of DNS servers, or turn off the BIND feature on the module config page. It appears that DHCP is being used to dynamically configure your network interfaces, which can cause the DNS servers to be set based on settings provided by the DHCP server. Using a static IP address is strongly recommended with Virtualmin.
