your going hate what i have to say ,im not a breeder but i do have an aviary of canaries mostly rescue., i dont breed them but do provide them nest pans if they want use them ,they can fly about in the outside flight and go in to the heated roost if and when they decide ,they get fresh food and water daily along with millet spray and fruit and salad leaves, any young that have been bred are not ringed, reason being i want see which birds are natural bred and not the rescue ones, ive all types of canary that just left to pair up with whatever type and ive some beautiful colours and mixes i dont sell or rehome them it just my hobby , i think your videos are great and informative for the real breeders of canaries and natural native birds ,keep doing what you do.
Interesting you mention salt in birds diet,there was an old bag of road salt in the corner of a builders yard in nottingham,i saw goldies dropping down into the bag from the fence non stop everday,,, i threw a .ump in my aviary and the goldies pecked away on it to no detriment to theselves ,,keep up the great work ollie 😊
Hello Oliver as always a great video . Have ordered some of the food you mentioned just to see how my birds take to it . Twites seem a good species to breed, are they hard ro breed ? also can i ask when your next live video is . Thank you
I kept the same birds for years. Never had a problem with the cold but was tormented and the birds were tormented by cats. Apart from that I had a recurring problem with goldies and linnets, sometimes redpolls; inflamed and distended stomach. The birds all behaved normally then one would tuck his head under the wing and thT was it, inflamed and distended stomach and certain death ! In those days there were no ‘forums’, just a copy of Cage and Aviary birds. I never did find out what this was or what caused it.
That’s a very weird symptom, I’m wondering did you give them any protein? I’ve heard of people giving too much protein causing the birds stomach and liver problems
I brought a load of fen traps on ebay showed them to my next-door neighbour who has cats that like to try and kill my birds told them they will be set all over my garden with chicken as bait now they don't let the cats anywhere near my garden
@@Finch5460 they must be keeping them in then, cats are uncontrolable once theyre out. I eventually bought an electric fence generator from agriculture supplies, wired it to a 12v transformer in the house. Stopped them climbing the aviary but they persisted in visiting the garden all night long and the birds were constantly disturbed and frightened. I did have a shed with double breeders connected to the aviary and eventually I had to try to wrangle them all inside the shed before night, never was a tidy exercise. Cats are like foxes, tirelessly persistent 😣
Great video may I ask the question with the 360 UNIKOFEED do you just give dry or do you mix of water and what is the product you moved to next to condition up fully with UNIKOFEED
Great update Olly. Looking fantastic as always mate. Question what is the name of those salts (spices for seed) you have been using? Are they also from Darren?
I have given them fresh in the summer, however in the winter I prefer to dry them out to remove any moisture which could bring fungal problems on the birds feet
Great video again Look forward to seeing how your twites do Hope you master the hawfinch breeding & got me guessing what the softbill could be ( redstart maybe ) Have you ever thought about breeding the tits or bearded reedlings
I’ve looked at different Tit species but some sound more difficult than others, I’ve got a nice pair of small softbills coming which will be great to share my experience with!
Brillant work with the twite 👍
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Excellent job, my friend 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Processed foods are an potential problem, with perles supply was erratic. I used perles and results were dreadful, changed back to soaked and bingo.

Thank you very much John, let’s hope it encourages more people into bird keeping🤞
Hiya how would one be able to do similar conservation work where would I have to start ?
Great update Olly. Looking fantastic as always mate. Question what is the name of those salts (spices for seed) you have been using? Are they also from Darren?
Hi Victor, it’s ‘Sali Minerali’ and ‘HB Grit’. Both Happy Bird products from Avian Supplies Ltd
@OCAVIARY Cheers pal.
👏👏👏💚💚💚🇩🇴
Hi there! Nice video. What can I give to my cockatiel so that it may grow faster? It seems silly. It moves and flies fast if I release in the room.
Fruit and vegetables are the way!
@OCAVIARY thank you
Is there a reason for drying out the Apple twigs rather than giving them to the birds as fresh?
I have given them fresh in the summer, however in the winter I prefer to dry them out to remove any moisture which could bring fungal problems on the birds feet
You should get some lovely birds off that mule pair Oli
Let’s hope so🤞
