Those folks had no idea that they were witnessing one of the greatest guitar players of all time, the immortal Eddy Shaver. They hardly even clapped. Dear Lord.....
You should really put eddie shaver as a tag for these videos..Ive been looking for videos of him live and they are hard to come by...Thanks for posting these..Dwights Awesome as well
I have always love and respected Billy Joe both as a man and a father in law. He is the most down to earth giving person :-) I went to Eddy's funeral with my father and brother. We were the first ones to pay respect to Billy and the rest of the family. When Billy saw me he just broke down and cried "oh Rose" It broke my heart. Eddy was the world to him. I told him that Eddy was at peace in Heaven with Jesus and was being very well taken care of by his mother and nanny(grandmother)
EDDY SHAVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Holy crap these vids are next to impossible to find! He's my favorite country guit slinger of all times, and Dwight is my fave vocalist of the last 20 yrs!
Amen. He's grown into my one of my all-time favorite players of any genre. He just had that extra little something that separates an awesome picker from an actual legend. At least we still have Kenny Vaughn! If you aren't familiar, do give Kenny a listen. You won't regret it. He's played with Marty Stuarts "Fabulous Superlatives" for years and is something else.
Yessum gotta Carolinian in your band..South Carolina.. Here.MyrtleBeach....Dwight ...Nobody can sing and play and of course dance across the stage like yourself..... KeepPuttimg the songs (Best)out there... We love Dwight....South Carolina invites and welcomes YOU with open arms...
You are right about the Mesa Boogie Steve. Dwight hated it when Eddy did that lol. Dwight actually heard Eddy play years earlier when opened for Billy Joe Shaver (before Dwight made it big). He loved Eddy's playing. When Pete decided to take time off to produce, Dwight requested Eddy try out for the part. I was married to Eddy from 1983-1991. I toured with him when he played with Dwight. We had a blast :-)
God Bless You and your memories of LIFE with a Genius MUSICIAN!!!! ROSALIE:.... your stories MUST BE HEARD..,.. I'm sure you got some tales to tell!!!v
I am late to the conversation, but; The Everly Brothers did this long before Elvis or Dwight. I absolutely love Dwight's rendition. Just keep it real, ok? Love to all!
The name doesn't ring a bell Steve. Did your (do you) live in Waco. I grew up in Waco and Graduated from Reicher Catholic High School in 1982. My mom knew Eddy and his parents and introduced us over the phone Thanksgiving of 1982, he and his parents were living in Nashville at the time. We meet and he and his parents moved to Wimberly shortly afterwards. We Married Sept 27th 1983. We got divorced and remarried again. We divorced for the second and final time in 1991.
Oh my, is this in Switzerland? It seems so familiar. Zug? I've been looking for this FOREVER. COCOLOVESDWIGHT you are a legend! (Whether it's Zug or not, lol) I loved Eddy, always will. For me he was the perfect blend of timing, musicality, attack and pure talent, and a really sweet guy..
Steve I had not seen Eddy or spoken mush with Eddy in about 9 years prior to his death. I had remarried and was busy raising children. I do know that if Billy Joe said it. It is true!!!! I do remember hearing that Eddy was dating Rosie for a while. If I remember correctly she was also married to his cousin back in the early 80's. I could not tell from seeing Eddy at the funeral if he had a broken jaw or ribs but like I said Billy said it, then I definitely would believe it.
i never thought dwight was sexy, but i have a thing for how his hat casts a shadow over his face... his cool demeanor & haunting voice, something so sexy about him i swear!
É difícil encontrar um POP Star, country singer,Roqueiros em geral que nãosejam fãs de Elvis, pois ele é o Começo,o meio e o fim, como dizia Raul seixas!!!
@MrBigbubbaboy Mine too..Eddy showed to to try out for the gig when Pete put out the word. He apparently was the only one who knew Pete's parts. Trouble was Dwight wanted Eddy to play a telecaster through a BF Fender Twin. The Tele part he had no trouble with..But he took along his Mesa Boogie that he had used for years with his dad and had it off stage with a mic running to it...When somebody would walk by and want to know what that amp was for they would smile and say" THAT'S JUST EDDY!
i fell in love with this song listening to the early elvis version. i wanted to like this one, but kept thinkin yuk. except the slide dancing. that was cool
I also meet Eddy's new wife. It was soo sad, They were only married a couple of months. I introduced myself and offered my condolences. She already knew I was Eddy's first (and second lol) wife. She said that Eddy had mentioned me a couple of time and even called her Rose on a couple of occasions
Well spotted Talamasca124. There you go. 14th June 1987. Nashville Country Festival, Zug, Switzerland. Steve Earle was there too if memory serves. This was an early Eddy Shaver performance. I believe he hadn't officially joined the touring band at that stage. Can anybody read the phone number on the cabs. We could google that for confirmation. I love a good mystery, lol.
Billy Joe really gives Johnny Cash's step daughter "ROSIE NIX" the Devil in his book. He said she was a heroin junkie and was the one who got Eddy addicted, Billy Joe said he called Johnny and June and wanted them to come get Rosie but they blew it off. He said when Brenda was dying( Eddy's mother) Rosie was stealing rings off her fingers. Billy Joe claims Eddy was really beaten up bad the night he died. He had a broken jaw and broken ribs.. Is this true?
@jmccullough NAH STIL JUST A GOOD OLEBOYfrom the KY Coalfields I heard him the oyher night "down the road ,down the road I Got a sugarbaby down the road" I am from the Appy Coalfields my self and its real easy to sot an outsider, Ya Dwights the real thing
Eddy never did heroin when we were together and he would never do any type of drug IN FRONT OF ME. He knew I didn't approve and worried about him doing drugs.
Why did this beautiful baby with beautiful legs have to embrace this grunge look of tatty jeans. Should be better than that! Be tourself - f- the fashions.

Not his original band from the video, but they have done well. Dwight has sung this in his own style and stayed faithful to the original song.
I saw Dwight with this band in Paridiso Amsterdam. Must be more than twenty years ago...
Love it!
Jerry Angel cool name!💥✌🏼🎸🎸👠❤️

My grandparents are from Hazard, KY. Most of my family were coal miners back in the old days.
Eddy never did heroin when we were together and he would never do any type of drug IN FRONT OF ME. He knew I didn't approve and worried about him doing drugs.

make a studio version!
lol mine did.
UHH... what about Jonny Horton! Dwight dose it justice...
like if your a true cowboy
Like at least 20 years ago. He looks downright fetal.
Not too bad, but doesn't it bug you to be watching a pretty boy who paid someone to strategically insert the rips in his blue jeans?
Why did this beautiful baby with beautiful legs have to embrace this grunge look of tatty jeans. Should be better than that! Be tourself - f- the fashions.
He just looks bored while he is singing
Elvis blows
Elvis is still the better version!
