@eric8542005 Experimentation with any kind of drugs is pretty much a given with Maynard...he's talked about it, although not at length.
But that being said, he's a PERFORMER. He's always taken his music/performance INCREDIBLY seriously. I highly doubt the dude has EVER been under the influence while onstage. In his book, "A Perfect Union of Contrary Things", he stresses how important his live performances are to him. I just can't see a man of his level of seriousness and overall gravitas going onstage (at the giant fuckin' Reading Festival, at that!) in any kind of altered state. It doesn't really compute.

      @@gtyplkjh6570
Well hello, Sasha. The music is....interesting. I need to tell you a little about who I am so you understand my comments. I'm 72 years old, honest. In my younger years, my genre' was bands like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads. I grew up with some late 50's, and full 60's, 70's, 80's, and some 90's music. The biggest problem for me here is the language barrier, as an American, I don't speak Russian, but overall, my impression of the band is it seems like a fusion of Thrash/Speed Metal and Punk. I was surprised when the guitar started riffing on the high frets, that guy can play guitar. Because of the language, the lyrics came to me as just screaming/yelling, but that's my problem, not the bands. The drummer is consistent, the guitar is discordant but that is style, not poor playing. I LOVE the cello, I played a little in middle school. I love the song 'Rock Superstar' by Cyprus Hill and I think it's bass line is cello. The trumpet is VERY punk, it looks like an old car muffler, it's a very cool homemade instrument.
I hobby build electric guitars (they are good guitars, but nowhere near professional level), and play a little. Because of my age, arthritis keeps me from making chord shapes, so I play like Keith Richards, 5 strings (no low E), tuned open G, and one finger barre chords. I can't read music so I just play free flow. What is interesting is that though I was never into speed metal/thrash, what flows out of me naturally is similar to what this guy plays, except I have no speed fingers.
If I understand you correctly, you know the guitarist and band. If that's right, tell him 'Greetings!' from an old man in America.
Between 2012 and 2020 I worked on the museum ship USS Iowa, and met many guests from around the world, including Russia and it's neighbors. All the Russians I have met have been very nice people and would talk extensively with them when I could.

To me that doesnt even look like a drug induced state. That looks like a man that's just so dedicated to performance and music, and has been putting himself out there, opening his emotions to the world, since the begging of his carreer. Theres plenty of bands you can look up to see how they perform on drugs, and it's a whole different kind of twitching and shriveling. This one looks controlled and completely consistent just with the message of the song.

I had been listening to her for at least 3 years before I showed up at this very concert. I knew that Maynard was a prick and that was very much confirmed by the way showed disdain for the people who listen to his music. I guess he thinks he's some kind of intellectual because he at some point came across the golden ratio or some shit. Anyway, the band would be so much better without him. On the other hand people that listen to the man and think that they're deep because they listen to them would suffer so I guess they do fill a niche.

This performance is unreal. It's a depiction of such tortured loss of control that makes you feel deeply uncomfortable. It's impossible look away from.

Tool is one of those bands that are so unique, they are almost categorized as their own genre of music

Noticed a cool testament to their greatness: you pretty much never see "who's here in 20xx?" comments in Tool videos. It's a given that no one ever leaves.

My thoughts on those are "OMG! You're watching videos in 2020.
      BFD! Get over yourself!"

28 years later, this live performance is just as epic and hits just as strong as it did during that time of the debut. This band was so groundbreaking and much ahead of their time, it feels almost ethereal.
