Raef Lafrentz could have been so much more. Dude tore his acl though like 10 games into his rookie season smh. He was a beast in college though.
Rashard Lewis and Cuttino Mobley were steals in this draft, both taken in the 2nd round, and they turned out to be some of the best starting/role players of all time and they made the All Star team. Shout out to Al Harrington and Tyron Lue also, taken 23rd and 25th, both turned out to be great starting/off the bench role players.

Yeah that’s easy to say after watching him for twenty years... He wasn’t highly scouted and there was not a lot of information about him. He had one or two really amazing All American type games for scouts which is why he got drafted. And if you weren’t paying attention at the beginning, Clippers took Olowakandi because he was the one they were confident they could actually sign. Everyone is a genius twenty years later.
Right Dirk should have been one Pierce number two. Vince Carter number 3. Then reasonable people could argue over Jameson or Bibby. But we all have the benefit of hindsight. But for what it's worth everyone knew Pierce dropped way too far. Milwaukee could have had either one of those guys and decided to go have trailer instead. Back then people were just a little nervous about foreign guys and obsessed with big bulky guys
Underrated draft. A bunch of all stars, and a couple of hall of famers and a couple of borderline hall of famers.

The Clippers definitely didn’t do there homework in this draft just like the drafts prior. You don’t pass up on Carter! A super athletic guard coming out of NC a well known program or a very talented player from Inglewood Paul Pierce who was coming from the Kansas program and pick a guy who only played two years of basketball and coming from a little known school called Pacific. The Clippers fascination with drafting power forwards and centers often who didn’t pan out doomed them for years.

As a Mavs fan, this draft is hilarious to me. Of course you have Dirk for Tractor Traylor (RIP), but you also have the Mavs getting Pat Garrity who they then traded for Steve Nash. Also, the one coach saying Michael Doleac was the best shooting big man in this draft.... yeah, about that...
There were also a few guys who eventually played for the Mavs: Jamison, Vince, and LaFrentz. Can't believe how far Vince and Pierce fell.

This was a pretty freaking good draft class all things considered. Obviously the number one pick was a total buzz but two three four five all had long NBA careers. Including Vince Carter a Hall of famer. 9 and 10 were Hall of famers and and champions.

I'm convinced that other GMs falsely hyped Olowokandi just so the lowly Clippers would draft him. He wasn't a bad player in the NBA, but the risk was too high when you had guys that dominated elite competition-Vince, Jamison, Bibby-along with a winning track record.
Michael O was in his 20s when he started playing basketball. Probably 23 or 24 when he was drafted. It worked for Dennis Rodman, but he had a late growth spurt and the Pistons didn't take him until the second round. Same with David Robinson, but he took a Navy team with all players under 6'6" and led them to the Elite Eight.
