Now that Apogee and New Blood have partnered up for the release of the Rise of the Triad remaster, Ultrakill and Turbo Overkill should be made available in a bundle. Just a thought.
I've been keeping a list of retro-fps games going for a while now and every time I hear of a new one that's getting good reviews and looks cool I add it to the bottom of the list. I've been working on buying and playing through the games on that list in order, and honestly I'm super excited that I've finally almost made it down to Turbo Overkill. I've been very excited about this one since I heard about it and would have gotten it right away but if I ignore the list things fall into chaos and that's how I end up spending more money than I should on games lol
@@morkgin2459 yeah, I'm sure it could be a great part, because car segments of the first ep were awesome, it's just that controls are spoiling all of the fun
yeah, in my experience it's not that enemies are failing to spawn blocking the progression,. it's rather that they're getting stuck in some obscure zones and I'm unable to find them
just happened to me last night, as well as two complete crashes. It is super lame wasting 10 minutes looking around for something only to have to restart the mission.
Excellent review. I literally just beat the game and watched this right after once again agreeing with basically everything said here (I didn't know about the plasma gun cheese though). Easily my favorite shooter of the year. I noticed it wasn't nominated for Best action, but considering it's Early Access does that mean it can be a contender for next year?
Fun fact, the dev of this game patched the game 6 times on the release of episode 2 and the following days patched it it once or twice a day. If that isn’t dedication I don’t know what else is.
I think this is a new standard for Boomer/ Retro shooters. It is my absolute favourite shooter. I love Doom Eternal, but there are moments in that game where I feel like I'm slogging. In Turbo Overkill, I'm always having fun.
Same, i also loved DUSK & Prodeus, but I think you might already know them, so you should also try out the much lesser known glorious PS1-Remake "Powerslave Exhumed" on steam :)
@@FranktheTank2308 Thank you for sharing. I love Dusk and it was my favourite of all the Retro Shooters at one time. And I bought Prodeus as soon as it came out of Early Access, but it didn't click with me. I'll have to give it a proper go soon, but I was also finishing up the Doom Eternal DLCs at the time and that may have affected my view. I have not played Powerslave, but I'll definitely check it out. At the moment I'm spending my time between Turbo Overkill and this game called Blood West, which is a more methodical shooter with exploration elements. BUT it also has a throw back style.
Something that made me overjoyed is that you don’t even need to use the motorcycle in the stage it’s given. Sure it will take a lot longer but the stage was miles more fun sliding and running from Syn than bumping into every wall like it’s borderlands
Just beat the new episode yesterday, was alittle disappointed there was no lvl 3 upgrade for the super shotgun, but otherwise it was fantastic (minus the bike section at least). I thought the new ugrade for the pistols was a pretty cool idea, absolutely ruins higher tier enemies but the need to both charge it up and not miss your shots keeps it from feeling op.
@@knowariddle9462 Yeah, hitting enemies with the primary fire builds a charge, when full they transform into one high powered magnum that does a ton of damage but only lasts for a limited time or until you miss a shot. Can kill the big mechs on hard in 5 shots.
@@knowariddle9462I don't know what you mean on "how it would play on consoles" I mean... the same way as it does on PC?... Consoles are not limited to using a controller only if that's what you're wondering, you can always plug a mouse and a keyboard and it'll work if the game supports it so no big deal.
Aside from the motorcycle section too. I would say that I wasn't a fan of the new voices and voicelines. Idk I liked S.A.M and S.Y.N's previous voices more. And the hunters lines on the boss fights were a bit annoying for me. But yeah overall the new episode was absolutely amazing.
The voice direction in general was honestly pretty bad. Jazz was annoying and Maw was just Gianni putting on a scary voice. Ripper had very good direction and the VA’s delivery was great, it’s just that the dialogue ranged from subpar to incredibly annoying
Well, it´s indeed a nice looking game and i bought it after playing the demo, but for some reason i quit somewhere close to the end of episode 1 as i don´t meet the minimum requirements for to have the reactions of a 12 years old on steroids. Also the games turns more and more into a jump&run orgy the deeper you get into the levels. So, compared to "real" retro shooters Turbo Overkill is maybe only looking like one but has a pacing i somewhen endet not been able to keep up with. No retro shooter was ever that fast and jumpy.
Any troll would tell you that you have a "Skill issue" but to me it sounds like you're too old for this. No offense, I'm starting to get old too but not to the point of losing my reflexes so I still got it for now. I too don't get why people call this "retro" or "boomer" shooters when it's a completely new thing imo, no other FPS game has been this insanely fast paced or give you this huge amount of freedom of movement.
ehh it's time we distinguish between arena shooters and boomer shooters. i prefer cultic and prodeus for this season's releases as they have LEVEL DESIGN
I like how you imply that Turbo Overkill doesn't have proper level design. All that tells me is that you didn't play it. What, you also think Half-Life doesn't have proper level design?
the music in this game is dope. the gameplay is also excellent.
I was actually shocked by how good the ending was too. I’m intrigued by its story now.
Same, a good little cliffhanger.

Like "Turbo Ultrakill"?
Actually. I was more interested in the partnership of nightdive studios and new blood with that remaster
A crossover event needs to happen
@@MaximG. More like "Ultra Overkill".
Rise of the Turbo Ultrakill 😆
This review was excellent, just the right amount of info!
Another great video Kirk🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
It was hell of a journey, thanks for your recommendation
The reason why enemies haven't spawned in is probably because the telefragger's telefrag ability doesn't count as a kill for whatever reason
