Buakaw Banchamek is widely recognised as one of the greatest kickboxers of all time. He burst on to the K-1 kickboxing scene in 2004 when he defeated the then favourite, Masato, in the final without any prior experience of competing in the K-1 ruleset.
The key to Buakaw's early success was a result of his ability to hold off opponents using his Muay Thai defensive guards, precision head movement, rapid counter strikes and, of course, his immense physical strength. Although he primarily used his quick left kick to counter his opponents' attacks, Buakaw was truly a master of all weapons in these competitions.
This highlight features Buakaw's fights under kickboxing and Muay Thai rules.
Some of Buakaw's most high profile victories include those vs Samranchai 96 Penang, Satoshi Kobayashi, Nontachai Keatwanlop, John Wayne Parr, Takayuki Kohiruimaki, Masato, Albert Kraus, Andy Souwer, Jean-Charles Skarbowsky, Mike Zambidis, Jomhod Kiatadisak, Dzhabar Askerov, Nieky Holzken, Yoshihiro Sato, Yi Long, Victor Nagbe and Enriko Kehl.

I always liked how deftly he used long guard / stiff arm / teep in his defence.
This guy greatly deserves legend status. Hands down.
This video should basically be titled, “How to use Muay Thai in K1 Rules”. I like Buakaw’s general use of the long/dracula guard. He doesn’t just use it to block his chin and maintain distance. 80% of the time, he’s also pushing forward to make his opponent lose balance, then launches a counter kick/punch/knee.
Buakaw has a lot of sportsmanship and true warrior. The legend. Well respected.

muay thai scholar man lost my first ever ameteur yesterday night k1 rules..me being a muay thai practicioner i felt a bit restricted with the rules..what type muay thai style would you advise for k1 fights me being a south paw...thanks alot your videos are the best✊🏿✊🏿
@@bewaterlee9857 Buakaw made a smooth transition from Muay Thai to K1 rules by being extremely evasive and by using his defensive guards to block punches. The key to his success, though, is his ability to remain in the pocket as he does it; he doesn't create lots of space in order to land shots - he stands right in front of his opponent while he evades them. This is very important in K1 rules since you'll rarely face an evasive K1 fighter; they are often aggressive and open up with punches.
It's difficult to fend off an aggressive opponent in K1 with an evasive Muay fimeu style since elbows aren't permitted (this would be the natural counter to lots of aggressive forward movement). Therefore, remaining in the pocket by utilising defensive guards and performing rapid counter techniques such as knees, kicks and punches is a good option. This approach also encourages fighters to continue coming forward since you will often position yourself within striking distance of the opposing fighter, although (hopefully) the target will disappear when they throw and you can follow up with a powerful counter.
An evasive fighter such as Saenchai is not suited to K1 rules as he needs far too much space to work his magic and he is not as strong in the clinch as many other top Thais are. Buakaw doesn't need tons of space; he works well with the very small openings that he creates with his head movement and defensive guards.

you know what the funny thing is , even buakaw is not his prime mode anymore , but i can tell he still pulled out his strength all the times , he using counter attack only , if you look at his prime , that's the one scare you the most
