    I've been buying Nathan's re-card kits for a couple years and love them. I wish he would produce some other vintage properties like The Real Ghostbusters or MOTU. Definitely great for display, but I do agree that a little text note on the back about it being a reproduction would definitely hush up most of the controversy with them.

    Wow - you're tempting a mass outcry from the 'ALL REPRO IS CANCER AND MUST BE DESTROYED' pitchforks and torches crowd due to this video. :)
    I've purchased the first 21 repro cardbacks from Restore Nation and was generally very impressed. The adhesive bubbles work well, and they look terrific on display.

      Those sort of collectors already don't like what I show on this channel. I thought this was interesting to show as I know a lot of people like to re-card their childhood collections and it was not something I had look at before. As I mentioned I would prefer if the cards were marked and in future I will be putting TP stickers on the ones I do. But I don't plan on doing many as I prefer loose.

      Well, you know what they say about empty cans..
      I had a fella say to me that if it was up to him all repro would be seized and burned. I offered him to come and try, he shut up quick smart.
      I think a small sticker on the bottom of cardboard insert is fine and if anyone thinks that I'm evil for doing this sort of thing then you can bring the entire village as an angry mob, your opinion has the weight of sunlight.

      I've noticed that most of the so called purists have lost their way because there is no chance I'm taking criticism from idiots that think that the new Disney Star Wars are good, I enjoyed Rogue one but I had to lower my IQ at the IMAX 3D cinema for TFA & I didn't appreciate my favourite character being turned into a deadbeat dad who owes credits to everyone & is dumb enough to misplace the best ship in the Galaxy The Majestic Millennium Falcon, FFS I know that mine is in my parents attic keeping safe among many other items from my childhood. Being the original boycotter by not watching TLJ, Soylo or Episode 9 none of the desecration hit me. Taking advice from somebody that endorses Disney Star Wars is laughable in my humble opinion. Regards, David from Manchester

    bought one of these kits for an empire snowtrooper last year and side by side with a genuine card you can clearly see a photo quality difference and that satisfied me that nobody would be duped (besides I’m never selling it) but even so it looks great up on the wall even though when it snows I want to break him out of the bubble

    I think using blue or green painter's tape, to mark where you want the blister to land, would be a safe way to get it lined up perfectly. The tape has a loose grip and shouldn't damage the card when you remove it. Might have to get some of these kits. Thanks for the video!!

  • @ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски

    Very cool!
    But part of what I like about your channel is the fact that you '"play" with your figures, i.e. you clean them, you fix them, you re-card them. You don't just put them in a vitrine where they remain for all eternity, no, you actually use your imagination and creativity to restore them. As far as collecting goes, I think it's far more fun to actually try to make up an innovative way to make them look better or "perform" better (after all, they are toys, they had a function at some point) than "just" buy them and not touch them, as if they were some holy relic. After all, these are old action figures, not ancient Egyptian statues, for instance.

  • @VantagePointrocks

    That works pretty well and they look pretty cool, might be nice to do it for one or two figures to bring back the nostalgia of purchasing them. Though wouldn't do it for my whole collection, as struggle for space to display them when they are loose, let alone if they have packaging around them!

    I've decided to order replacement cards for all the ones thrown in the bin in my childhood. Not for recarding, just to own all the cards I once had, and maybe frame some or prop them up behind displayed figures. I want to try to be as true to my old figure cards as possible so I'm wracking my brain trying to remember which versions I might have had.

    Just a note: always a good idea to brush out the bubbles before sealing, just to dispense with any dust, etc. before placing them. Also, when placing bubbles down, I typically have something heavy (i.e. a glass, paperweight) placed precisely either at the top or bottom of the racetrack figure outline so I can effectively push the bubble up against it to steady and straighten it as I bring it down. Given you have to precisely juggle the bubble, insert and figure (sometimes with a cape, etc.) all at the same time when attaching, it helps to have something to push against as it can get fiddly and imprecise otherwise. Nothing worse than making an error and having the bubble attach at an angle, or the insert misplaced, or a cape getting stuck in adhesive. :)

    I watched this video 9 months ago and have always wanted a collection of vintage carded star wars figures. Back in 2006 I purchased 4 original carded figures each representing the wave they were released. Luckily I managed to get a 12 back stormtrooper ( which was my first figure in 1978) a 21 back with boba Fett mail away a empire a Jedi and power of the force b wing pilot which was the cheapest of that line to get. They were a lot cheaper then than now I can't even touch a carded figure. I started a recollection of the vintage figures loose some in need of repair and replacement so hobby lobby will see me often. Your videos have been helpful very much and hope to restore these figure with repro capes weapons decals. I didn't want to re card my figures I grew up with I want those loose. It will take time to hunt the figures I want because of ridiculous prices on some of the loose figures especially the POTF figures. May have to substitute POTF2 versions or get the Stan solo figures. My original card backs have yellowing cracked bubbles and some scruffs on the cards. In the end (sadly) these figures won't last forever and I think preservation is key.

    What sort of cost are they? I have all my original cards from the 1970's and 80's, but some have the character names removed, where I sent off for mail-away figures, and it would be nice to have a pristine set. Most of my original figures succumbed to Plasticizer Migration years ago, and were thrown away, so that they did not 'infect' any of my other action figures. It would be nice to have the cards as a collectible - when I was at school, the cards were as collectible as the figures, especially if you had Kenner ones with different backs.

    The people that complain about things like this are generally the ones making an extortionate amount of money selling the originals... Let's face it, there will never be enough carded items to be sold at a reasonable price, so if people want to make reproductions for their collections it's up to them.
    Sure, some could get onto the market and be sold as originals, but I would imagine serious collectors in the market for carded toys know what they looking at.
    It's a bit like the antiques game (well they are modern antiques) there will always be people that are suckered into buying junk, there will always be a criminal element associated with something like this because there's money involved.
    Couple that with a bit of jealousy from people that wish they'd thought of starting a business like this and you'll get idiots rubbishing the producer claiming it promotes fakes.

    • @easterbrooks7480
      @easterbrooks7480 6 лет назад +1

      I think of them as art and I don't think I would ever sell them but just put them on a peg board and display because there is now way in hell I could ever afford the originals

    • @ryanbarker5217
      @ryanbarker5217 6 лет назад +1

      dealers are just low-end businessmen with little if any business know-how, most are probably collectors selling to other collectors, and a good portion no doubt run their 'business' out of their closet. that said, even they know enough to sell at the highest price someone is willing to pay, that being simply supply and demand. they're hardly making an 'extortionate [sic] amount of money,' hoping to dump that old carded wee-quay to make their yacht payment. real dealers have rent and utilities.
      so, there is no 'reasonable' price for these things. demand is high, quantities are low. just like in antiques, there are fewer and fewer every year as accidents happen or idiots don't know what they have. i see all the time where someone buys online only to get their vintage card folded around and wrapped with a rubber band. now the price of that item in that condition potentially rises slightly when the market adjusts over time.
      like you said, where there's money to be made there will be fakes, and it's up to the buyer to know the difference. that said, if you're suggesting that it's okay for dealers to defraud a customer, then we're going to disagree strongly. collecting communities like this tend to be pretty close-knit and like-minded and try to be helpful. not only do they want to grow their hobby's base, they want to protect those people getting into it, which in turn helps protect them at some point. so, it's entirely not unreasonable to want a disclaimer on reproduction items at all.
      i don't think there's any jealously involved at all. it's a fun idea, though we'd like there to be more than just a caveat emptor mentality involved. of course you'll never rid any industry of criminals, but you can certainly limit that. as far as jealousy, i plan on doing some projects with aluminium this summer, and i happened across someone who did a spot of it already on ebay. jealous? no. i've had the idea for years, he just actually did it before i did. besides, his product was pure garbage. i'll still follow through on my idea and let there be competition. there's no reason to be jealous, if someone thinks they can make a better quality product then go for it, eh?

      And I have a question. I’m trying to think back to my Jawa figure I had as a kid (40y ago) and I keep remembering that it had the cloth outfit, but when I took the hood down, there was a plastic square on top of the head where the light goes through and made the eyes glow. Am I mixed up somehow or did they make those? I can’t seem to find one if they did.

    • @toypolloi

    For personal use, I think things like this are fantastic. However I am concerned that without any markings to say its a reproduction; I'm concerned these could easily be abused by (especially) online sellers.

      Yeah, I would prefer if they were marked. I will be sticking TP stickers on mine.

    • @Johnny6666
      @Johnny6666 6 лет назад +2

      But although that might be a legitimate concern, how often does it happen? Buyers who are into MOC vintage figures, particularly those with pristine cards, bubbles and inserts (such as these reproductions appear) are paying huge amounts of $$$ and SHOULD know what to be looking for, by the very nature of being a high-end MOC collector. If they're happy to take a chance on a random Ebay seller purportedly offering a pristine vintage MOC Chewbacca - or, indeed, 37 pristine vintage MOC Chewbaccas - then they deserve little sympathy. Trading at that level of the hobby typically occurs through established channels and established sellers, with both reputation of traders and provenance of the items in question being a key element.

    I said exactly the same to Nick at 'Nicks Toy Barn' about cards having a reproduction label to stop anyone trying to pass them off as real. I even had words with a guy on ebay about his reproduction video game sleeves, i said if he truly cared about the hobby (as he proclaimed) he would do as i suggested (print reproduction on the bar code) but obviously he cared more about making money as all he did was asked people not to be dishonest and try and pass them off as genuine! I personally prefer re-carding vintage figures with vintage cards and blisters when they turn up!

      the gaming toy boy -- The only people that are worried about this sort of thing are people making money out of selling the originals for an extortionate price and are worried their sales will drop. Let's face it, the hobby is being ripped off already by people charging too much for originals.

      Liofa thats absolute garbage. I’m a trader and collector and not in the business of ripping people off. Star Wars MOCs are simply a premium product. The fact these cards have no reproduction identifier leaves it open for scammers to make hundreds and pass them off as originals if buyers are unaware.

    Scammers will try to pass them off as fresh on card and rip people off

    I really do not like that stuff like this exists. It is too easy to take a grainy photo and post it on Ebay. Reproduction Card needs to be written somewhere on this.

    I can see why people would like these, I personally think it should be mandatory to have a small text on the back that is out of the way but noticable saying the card is a reproduction. Obviously someone that knows what they're doing will notice it's a fake, but someone who just starts out collecting the toys they had when they were younger might get taken advantage of with these. It's a double sided coin, on one side it's useful and the other it's deceitful and open to be used as a scam.

    Think this is a really bad idea. Fake mint on cards will fool some people.
