The saddest part was with the elderly homeless man. Because he realized that he can’t control things. He can’t play God. So, instead of focusing on saving him, he instead made his last day comforting. He spent time with him. He fed him.
Sometimes being a true hero simply means seeing the humanity in the people around us and being there to serve others. Like you said, “He spent time with him. He fed him.”
My favorite thing about this film is that there is no explanation. There is no guide like Clarence the Angel. He is a regular guy plopped into limbo one day and has to find his way out on his own.
Somebody calculated how much time Phil Connors should spend in that limbo if he could learn French, master card tricks, learned how to play piano of such level and lerned sculpture, not mentionong all the time he spent doing bullshit and trying to kill himself. The time is estimated between 30 and 40 years.
Tragically, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis had a serious falling out, during the making of this film. The two never worked together again, and didn't contact each other for over 20 years. By the time they finally reconciled, in February 2014, Ramis had lost the ability to speak due to an autoimmune disease, which he died from, days later.

It's too bad you saw "Edge of Tomorrow" before this. This is the famous implementation of the concept, which has changed the way people use the term "Groundhog Day." It used to just refer to the quaint, obscure holiday, but now it means "being stuck in potentially endless repetition." This movie is a classic. Where does this tradition come from? Germany. The german immigrants used a Badger for the forecasts originally. Unfortunately there were none in the region of Punxatowney so the Groundhog got the job
Yes, that's correct, Americans adopted this German tradition. In Lithuania we also have the similar one, also with the badger. But the day is not the second of Febuary, it is 25th of January - the middle of the winter in our geographic location . When the badger wakes up that day and goes out from his burrow and if the day is sunny he is scared of his own shadow, runs back and goes to sleep, which means the winter will be long. On the other hand if the day is cloudy and gloomy and he doesn't see his shadow, he goes for a walk. And if the people see that day the footprints of the badger all over the forest, well that means he's not sleeping any more, and the winter is close to its end. We have a saying tabout the middle of the winter - the badger turns over on the other side while sleeping😁.
@@fidenemini111 Given that Lithuania converted to Christianity in 1387 but didn't adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1915, I'd be curious if maybe the date difference is actually due to the Julian calendar conversion. I totally get your shock at the kiss greeting. I grew up in a part of the US where this just wasn't done and I remember at my first job out of college I was sent to NYC. That was my first encounter with the hug and kiss greeting. The first time someone did it to me, I froze. I was stiff as a board and couldn't move. I was embarrassed and worked so I could do it but it never felt natural to me.
I wasn't aware that there was anywhere here in the US that it was common. I thought it was only something you'd encounter in Europe. Although I don't really travel much and have never been farther from home than neighboring states. So this is just the impression I've gotten from movies / shows.

It has been estimated that the length of time they were in the time loop was approximately 34 years, given the amount of time it takes to become an expert at all of the things he learned. The doctor that told him to see a psychiatrist is Harold Ramis, the director, and former Ghostbuster (RIP).
The groundhog is only 39% correct in predicting the weather since his first prediction in 1887 and only 30% correct over the past decade. They need to hire a new groundhog. Best bet against him in Vegas. lol. Some estimate that Phil was stuck in the time loop for 33 years & 350 days. (There are other competing theories, but this one is the most popular).
Living in the Chicagoland area, I regularly go to the city where this was filmed. Also, I’ve seen the amount of time he spent reliving the same day as long as 138 years.
30:44 "When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life." And besides, if your _supplies_ are well stocked winter can actually be rather _nice._
I’m up at 4am every morning, the result of 35 years of getting up that early for work.. I get right up and I’m ready to go.. just remember: Every day above ground is a great day.
I usually get up between 8am and 12pm. It varies day to day, depending on when I go to sleep. I go to sleep when I'm tired. Haven't had to use an alarm clock in decades...
Your comment about every day above ground being a good day reminds me of an expression I read a few years ago (after spending two years dealing with my late parents' estate), concerning bad weather: "Cemeteries are full of those who would love any kind of weather." After that, sometimes I would make a point of visiting the village cemetery when it was raining, because at least I was still able to. Behind every person alive there lies a hundred souls, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living.
I've heard it said Harold Ramis (Director) knew that Bill Murray gets grumpier and more difficult to work with over the course of a movie's shooting.. And so for this, he deliberately shot the ending scenes (Where Phil is at his absolute best) early on, and the opening bits where he's a self-centred unpleasant... individual.. towards the end of filming.
Flirting with the lady by pumping her for information the day before: This strongly suggests, since Phil doesn't remember Ned Ryerson, that Ned is having his own Endless Groundhog Day, and that Ned pulled the same trick on Phil (and probably everyone he talks to).
All living species in the genus Marmota it commonly known as a Marmot, only Marmota monax is called a Groundhog plus many other names, even other members of North American Marmota are referred to as Marmots, like the Hoary marmot (Marmota caligata), the Yellow-bellied marmot (Marmota flaviventris), the Olympic marmot (Marmota olympus), the Vancouver Island marmot (Marmota vancouverensis). This is why personally i call "Groundhogs" Wuchak Marmot (Marmota monax), wuchak (woo-chak) being from native American language meaning digger, rather that the European name Groundhog aka Groundpig.
Even sunny or cloudy doesn't mean anything. It's just a silly tradition and a reason for folks in that area to stay up all night getting drunk and standing out in the bitter cold to see a large rodent

I love that you had no idea what the movie was about when you started watching. That's rare for this movie because it's become an icon in the US and a metaphor for the same day repeating over and over again, so people who haven't seen it still know what it is about. It was great that as he wakes up the first time with the repeating day, you're discovering what's going on just as he does. This is the best reaction I've seen to this movie, even though you cut some of the iconic lines. 😊
Some philosophical movie, what would you do? Great reaction, I could see your appreciation grow towards the end. Thanks for your reaction! Cu sinceritate and a kiss on the mouth from the Netherlands!
Phil started his journey as a very flawed man. "Groundhog Day" is about the perfection of the human soul. *FUN FACT:* We know from an early script draft - the idea stems from the Buddhist ideology that it takes 10,000 years to perfect the human soul. Once Phil perfected his soul, he was freed from the curse. This 10,000 years to betterment was confirmed by director Harold Ramis (RIP).
It's been calculated that Phil spent nearly 35 years reliving the same day. They say that because he would need roughly that long to master all of the things he mastered. Good news, no laundry foe 35 years, you will always have clean clothes. Also, the character Buster was played by Bill Murrays older brother. They've appeared in 4 or 5 films together.
The funny thing about the scene where Phil asks Nancy about her name and other details so the next day he can pretend she knows him is that she was already interested in him due to the straightforward and confident way he first approached her. He didn't need to pull out that trick the next day xD
4.5 is a great rating for this movie, it really is excellent and still holds up after all these years. As for a looping movie this IS the original of this type and did it first. Great reaction Biss!

Groundhog Day was filmed in Woodstock , IL. where I was born . I still live just one town over . You can watch this movie and still recognize the town square in person . The theater has been remodeled and made much larger .
The only mistake was the piano teacher at the party. She said Phil was her student, but how would she know that? If he actually went to see her that day, she would have told him he was already a piano expert. More likely, he stopped taking lessons a long time ago. There are questions about how long he repeated the same day. Some say 30 years, but I think it was much longer. It takes about 100,000 hours of dedicated practice to become a master at any skill. Count up all the skills he learned, then add in all the frustration and unmotivated days when he did absolutely nothing, which in my opinion, would be 10 times more often. I think he was there for hundreds of years. This is one of the best time loop movies I'm aware of. I love it!
In alll seriousness, this is really rewatchable movie. In noticing new or enjoying the little things, to noticing new or enjoying the big picture philosophies and messages.

just because the subject itself isn't necessairly of use, doesn't mean the process of studying it isn't either
i learned a ton that's not just applicable to linguistics, learning linguistics was just the method in which i chose to learn it and made it more fun and interesting for me
what i mean is, i studied linguistics on my own time for about 2 years in high school and i learned a lot.... about linguistics
but all that self study did absolutely nothing for any other skills the way going to college and studying linguistics formally did
it's great if you want to study something on your own and learn just about that, but i think that's a fundamental misrepresentation of what college is for
it's not JUST learning the subject, it's how you learn it, how to write papers and articles, how to think critically and logicaly
if you just study linguistics on your own, even using the exact same textbooks as used in college, you'll learn linguistics - but if you get a degree in linguistics, you learn a lot more outside of linguistics itself that can be applied to so many other aspects of your life and so many other jobs
Bill Murray at his best. Another great movie with him his Scrooge. And don't forget the Ghost Busters. But i love this good Oldie. The grumpy man is what he can play like no other, but always got a good ending. Thank for your comments (and the movie).
Another name for 'woodchuck'. It's a North American woodlands rodent known for it's ability to predict the weather. Also has some time-control powers that are little understood.
@@MuljoStpho I thought the same as you but I can say that the NE (Jersey, NY, East Penn, etc) it was common place among friends to welcome and say good night this way. I am not even saying its wrong its just if you are not from an area where its practiced, it takes some getting used to.
@@MuljoStpho In Europe we don't kiss on the lips or on the cheek for greetings.
We are doing "la bise" where we touch the one cheek with our own (some people do a smack in the air so their is a kiss sound).
Love to have a coffee with her and ask her questions that require a long drawn out answer just so I can listen to her accent 🤣😂😋

Everyone: yeah, that checks out....😅

Thank you, editor. 🤣🤣🤣
He's a famous weather forecaster, just not a good weather forecaster.
@@3DJapan Famous? Sure. Good? Not so much w/ 39% success rate.

"This is one of those movies with repeating loops" Yes, this is the movie that started that plot device.
You need to start/ intro all your future React videos with your MGM Lion roar. It's adorable.
Living in the Chicagoland area, I regularly go to the city where this was filmed.
Also, I’ve seen the amount of time he spent reliving the same day as long as 138 years.

Hi Miss Bisscute !!!! This is An Entertaining Movie 🍿🎥. You should Enjoy !!! As always the like button ✅ has been Illuminated 😁👍👍😎🤗🌎
"You should drink to bullshit..." LMFAO!!!
Every time Biss says "sexytime", it makes me think that she really needs to do a reaction to Borat...
I’m up at 4am every morning, the result of 35 years of getting up that early for work.. I get right up and I’m ready to go.. just remember: Every day above ground is a great day.
I get up between 3:30 and 4:00 every morning. The result of one of my cats thinking that's when she should get fed.
They are also called Woodchucks. My wife called them a Groundchuck one time on accident. I only call them that now.
“You should drink to bullshit.” 🤣❤️
Watched this a lot with my mom when I would stay there for summer break. We love Bills comedy.
I love your channel. I subscribed when you sang KRS One.
Красивые эмоции, будто сама в лужу наступила! Лучше этого фильма ещё никто не снял! Смотрим каждый февраль!❤
16:00 she doesnt notice he is 10-15 years older than her, LOL
I read that Romania has a tradition called Stretenia on Feb 2nd where a bear looks for its shadow
One of my clasic favorites.
Kissing hello and goodbye used to be common (in my world anyways) and felt very normal. Your reaction is funny. :)
Flirting with the lady by pumping her for information the day before: This strongly suggests, since Phil doesn't remember Ned Ryerson, that Ned is having his own Endless Groundhog Day, and that Ned pulled the same trick on Phil (and probably everyone he talks to).
Groundhog is what's called Marmota in Romanian.
Interessante. Em português é marmota também.
@@ericomartins9794 both languages linked to Latin.
Such a good reaction and such wonderful comments here. 😊😊😊
I love love love this movie 🎥
This dumb day doesn’t really need a groundhog. If it’s cloudy, more winter. If it’s sunny, early spring.
Even sunny or cloudy doesn't mean anything. It's just a silly tradition and a reason for folks in that area to stay up all night getting drunk and standing out in the bitter cold to see a large rodent

7:50 Your face at the shovel... 😝
Harold Ramis, the director...believed in reincarnation & said that Phil would have had to relive that same day over 10,000 times to learn all that he did.
Such a great reaction Biss.
Palm Springs is another fun film in the genre.
There's a degree to which cold showers are therapeutic. When I was in jail, we had an ice storm. At the same time, our boilers went out for 2 days straight. I was fortunate the shower was a large space where I could step in and out of the water, because it was literally taking my breath away every time I got wet.
9:07 Actually, it is the movie that introduced this trope.
Every other movie/series that you have seen usinjg that trop was making a reference to this movie.
I'm glad you liked it. We quote this movie all the time. ❤
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
I live near there. It is near a college. So every ground hog day, everyone shows up to party. Plus there's a spring break for students to go home and those who don't end up staying at school and going there for spring break. Also younger people know that there will be annual party so they go there and this movie has people from around the world come here to experience the festival.
A good portion of the movie filmed in the downtown area was in a city near me. Woodstock, Illinois.
They still have a festival each year there to celebrate Groundhog Day.
It’s also sad that Bill Murray was a frequent in the local diners while filming there - so cool !
One of my favorite movies. I watch it every year, around the actual Groundhog Day.
Check out the director's cameo as the doctor checking the X-ray.

You as the MGM lion might just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! And also LOL funny!
I have an entire family of ground hogs living under my front covered deck! I tried to trap them, but they are really smart. I gave up and now I just feed them! They keep stray cats and dogs away -and they don't mind my domestic house cat!
I've watched a bunch of people react to this because it's one of my favorites. Your reaction was by far the most fun! The highlight for me was your reaction to the slaps
Greetings from 30 minutes from Punxy.
Might want to watch the movie Palm Springs (2020) as well
OMG Bisscute in the MGM logo broke me EPICLOLZ
One of my favorites. Glad you liked it. Enjoyable reaction. Thank you.
Calculations have come on as low as 10 years and as high as 10000. Fun to speculate on.
35 years being slapped by the woman you really, reaaaaaaally love 🤕
The funny thing about the scene where Phil asks Nancy about her name and other details so the next day he can pretend she knows him is that she was already interested in him due to the straightforward and confident way he first approached her. He didn't need to pull out that trick the next day xD
4.5 is a great rating for this movie, it really is excellent and still holds up after all these years. As for a looping movie this IS the original of this type and did it first. Great reaction Biss!
Thank you
Bill Murray's masterpiece. This is a great comedy with a little bit of everything.
Thank you @BissFlix, for this reaction. So much fun.
Bisscute, you are perfect for the MGM logo.
*Biscute* I don't think recognized for him to learn all those things & repeatedly fail means he relive that single day for years upon years
Groundhog Day was filmed in Woodstock , IL. where I was born .
I love it!
The movie is based on a book and i think in the book he was in that loop for hundreds of years. It is much, much darker than the movie.
It's surprising seeing all the different reaction concepts to this movie.
Fun Groundhog fact they get all the water they need from plants they eat, it's why you see them out in the rain often.
In alll seriousness, this is really rewatchable movie. In noticing new or enjoying the little things, to noticing new or enjoying the big picture philosophies and messages.
Groundhogs are lovely. Groundhog day is a real event each year. This year, the groundhog promised a short winter, and I intend to hold him to it! So far, so good!
