You really are too kind, and I'm sure with a little practice you'd be amazing at breaking down all the incredible work you're doing too! 💛 it means a lot that you like them because making science more accessible was the whole goal for my channel, so thank you for saying.

      I would have never started watching this channel if it weren't for the videos with 35 scientific references. And I've told friends about how there's this "influencer" woman who I'm regularly watching, but she also has a science degree, creates videos with best current scientific understanding with actual references, and she has completed the Ironman and trains to keep her body in shape to enjoy all of the varieties of the physical activity that she chooses to do. My friends are like, yes, that! Well of course y'all had not heard of anyone like her before, the internet's options are so limited for a qualified popular social media platform success spouting real understanding.

    So happy you’re back!!! And proud of my relationship with food and how far it’s come- I can watch this with no trouble while eating a chocolate chip cookie, right before my workout! 😉 About a year and a half ago I was eating 800 calories a day, hadn’t touched bread/refined sugars in years, and was weak, miserable, and unhealthy inside and out. I realized it was unsustainable and I had to put my focus on being healthy rather than staying skinny. About 6 months into reverse dieting, I watched a video of one of yours and Mario’s donut dates, and I drove to my local donut shop afterward and enjoyed my first donut guilt-free- that was a monumental day for me! 💕 I eat intuitively now, but the last time I counted calories I was eating ~2100 a day. Now I’m lifting weights and feeling stronger and happier than ever! So thank you for the instrumental role you played in my recovery. Grateful for you! 💖

      "Scientists have largely debunked the myth that food cravings are our bodies' way of letting us know that we need a specific type of nutrient. Instead, an emerging body of research suggests that our food cravings may actually be significantly shaped by the bacteria that we have inside our gut." Maybe your gut bacteria is off? I don't know how accurate that study is, but just from personal experience I believe it. You could try a "gut repair" powder/ formula, that really really helped me with craving unhealthy shit.

    I can totally relate to the sweetness study just based on small (non-dieting related) personal choices I've made with moving to eating more whole foods. From commercially sweetened (oil, salt, sugar) peanut butter to natural peanut butter (just peanuts) to cutting down on candy, switching it out for dried fruit, and now rarely consuming dried fruit - wow. Also your sensitivity to flavours in general increases when you cut the added salt and sugar in your diet. Natural foods and whole foods will taste more flavourful when your palate isn't distracted by artificial flavours

    Just wanna add about the menstrual cycle part that women’s cycles can vary a lot more than the average 28 days (between 21-40 days) and the luteal phase can vary much more than 14 days, roughly 11-17 days but can be shorter for some women. Just a mention :)

    This video really opened my eyes because I’ve been working out for awhile (6 going on 7 years) initially when I was losing weight I cut out certain food groups but now that my relationship with food in a process at the moment I realized I never had a pizza without healthy ingredients on tops or craved things like ice cream. I know people stress moderation is key but I only really give myself truly moderation in the holidays and eventually graduation.

    Such a wonderful video, got me teary-eyed at the end. Made me reflect upon many things, its nice to know how many factors go into your cravings and food consumption overall. Also helped me see the harmful "diet" (it was actually a full-on food restriction that made me miserable and contributed to increasing my already general anxiety disorder) a doctor (he was not a dietitian) had put me once on. I'm glad now that I'm having a progressively better relationship with food and exercise in general and this video (and man others) of yours have contributed towards that. thank you for your work, it's truly informative, loved, and appreciated.

    You are genuinely one of the best youtubers out there, and I’m so glad you’re back uploading again, I like to watch a positive RUclips video each morning before I start my day and seeing you upload is super exciting! I was the healthiest I’d ever been right before the pandemic hit, I was so confident, loved looking at my progress and felt so good about myself. Fast forward to now and I have gained all the weight back and then some, due to the very quick weight gain from bingeing and eating my feelings I have also gained a lot of stretch marks over my body, especially my stomach. Going from my dream figure, mindset etc to where I am now has been really hard to come to terms with.
    I’ve been feeling so down about myself for so long now and hearing you say “drastically not bring drastic” really hit me. The temptation each day to go hard with dieting, exercise, and creating unachievable goals and expectations for myself easily keeps me in the loop of trying and not actually getting anywhere or making any progress. Thank you for this brilliant video, you really inspire me and clearly so many others.
    I’d be really interested to see a video based on how the pandemic has affected people, especially those with dieting issues. sometimes it feels as if I’m the only one who has put on as much as I have, I feel so alone with it! And also wonder how people got through the lockdowns without using food as their muse?! I’m going to slowly start addressing the problems I have with food and try and get back to that good, happy place again. I really think this video will help me with that. Thank you so much Natacha X

    Sadly "eating junk food in moderation" never worked for me. I tried to eat "intuitively" and just ate whatever I felt like without weighing myself or counting calories. I gained about 60 lbs during 4 years of doing that. At a certain point I started to loathe chocolate and the whole taste of it and I STILL COULD NOT stop eating it until it made me literally sick.
    The only thing that ever worked for me was cutting out junk food or processed food completely. At first it was pretty terrifying and my craving was so bad that I spend the first two weeks just crying and shaking. But now after three years I feel very relaxed around food because junk food is just not an option anymore. I don't buy it, I don't eat it, I don't think about it, I don't need it.
    With non processed food I have a very easy time to eat intuitively and just eat whenever I feel like it. I don't count calories but since I mantain a steady weight in the normal BMI range I assume I eat exactly how much I need.
    I could never eat just one piece of chocolate or one cookie. Some people can. I can't. Everybody's different and everybody needs to find out what works best for them.

I’m so glad I read this comment as it has offered me comfort that I am not alone.

      You are not alone! I'll turn 40 next month and I only figured this out 2-3 years ago after years and years of countless diets and failed tries to "eat intuitively". Good luck with you journey! :)

    Top tip (though only empirical 😀):
    Watch for combinations of very "triggering" macros + and other agents. Most common IMO are sugar - fat - salt - caffeine - alcohol.
    All fine and managable solo and in smaller dosis, but in combination the body is tricked.
    Think a McMenu Meal: fries (fat, simple carbohydrates~sugar, sodium) + a coke (sugar + caffeine), thats five! I feel my body doesn't have much chance against this.
    I don't fully restrict myself from anything, but am consious of that combination number. I'll either have a water, if fries are what i crave, or a coke, but usually not both at the same time. This has a huge impact on the control I have around these foods, without restricting to much.
    Hope somebody finds this useful, I'm rooting for you!

    • @nataliyasavchuk2737
      @nataliyasavchuk2737 2 года назад +1

      Agreed! I empirically derived that for me it's fat+sugar combination, I have a sweet tooth. It's also useful to do the same for the satiety: I've noticed that if I eat low fat foods no matter the volume I'm not gonna be satiated for too long even if I eat enough of protein. Empirically, I came to conclusion that I need 45-50g of protein and 30 g of fat per meal, I eat 3 meals a day (no snacking) with calorie intake 2,200-2,300 cal.

    • @Blumle1992
      @Blumle1992 2 года назад +1

      @@nataliyasavchuk2737 so true! I can't function on to little fat, no matter the calories, my body simply needs it. I will start eating everything within reach after trying to restrict it :D My husband on the other hand is perfectly happy with protein+carbs and very little fat, so different body types I guess... But so important to learn what really satiates you, and stop minding the calories too much. Takes some time :)

    This such an informative and helpful video. I was watching this video at my kitchen bench at 7:30AM eating a bow of ice cream, half awake. I am waiting on my official ADHD diagnosis in November and a lot of things you mentioned I can see have a correlation with why I eat the way I do. Most of the time I don’t actually want that food but I’m looking for a dopamine hit. Likewise I’ve been under a lot of stress being in lockdown again and that triggers a lot. Thanks for basically making me not feel crazy and as our of control as I have been feeling. I think I can take away some small actionable steps from this video. Thank you! ❤️
