GR Yaris - How to Drive it properly 💪

- 🇯🇵 GR Yaris - we all want to drive it and lot of people claim it is the best car in the recent years. Performance tuners make a lot of money of off it and Toyota can't really keep up with the demand. Yes, this little fella became a living legend pretty fast and kick-started the amazing trajectory of the newly established Gazoo Racing sports division. With a car this famous, many myths about its' driving come as well. How should you drive it properly?
We wrote a whole blog post about it (CZ only: www.corners.cz..., but it mainly comes down to: high speed entry, full throttle throughout the corner and handbrake in every hairpin!
⚠️ Filmed on a closed road! Drive and train safe!
The rear-view mirror is perfectly positioned for optimal view.
That's a problem on many modern cars: the pillar on the left is positioned in a way that you cannot see where you are going on left turns (okay, unless you are drifting 😜) and the mirror is positioned in a way that you can hardly see anything on right turns.
Really stupid, how this is legal. You need to have all kind of airbags, etc. to get a good safety rating, but being able to look outside of the car doesn't seem to be a consideration at all.

But how will he be able to see the BMW flashing its beams behind him?
Maybe he’s trying to hide his face
Gave my thumbs up on the corner power slide.
That road is a legit rally tarmac course. Only thing missing is a co driver yelling out pace notes.
Is it 1-st gear on coners with hand brake?
I have never in my life seen such perfect driving, dude the the turns, the drift, the control, 10000000000/10
…. Never seen DK, huh? Keiichi Tsuchia. “The Drift Bible” - check it out.
This was so stimulating. Such a beautiful display, agreed.
Search:porsche 911 turbo drifting on ice track. Unbelievable
he seemed to be enjoying himself quit ewell, now if he was really serious, bet he'd be going alot faster with the proper setup and gear
You have never watched rally? ruclips.net/video/L-sotE7HaVc/видео.html
Watch some WRC and your mind will be blown.
that 180 was insane
For a sec I thought he spun out but no. That was intentional. 😂🔥
180 is easy !
Wondered a while if it was intentional 😅
@@patrick.771 why else would he pull his handbrake
@@MaxMax-th7uz there always that idiot in the RUclips comments: open heart life saving surgery is easy!
Real men drive manual. Truly a professional.
What a display of skill! Not sure if the road is as slippery as it looks, but I am surprised how well the Yaris catches the slide in such tight corners. AWD worth its weight in gold here!
when you pull the handbreak, it decouples the front and the back axle... so you can do proper rally style turns
@@MrThomax beautiful🤯
Same here, 1e thing that came to mind was: wow , to fast into that corner..... never mind."
Great car and great driver.
I think the rear axle is decoupled, only.
@@ppawlows2000 only when you pull the handbrakes in this car.
That is what I call a precision driving. No BS, just perfect control over the car. Kudos!
Cywe já si až teď na upozornění kamaráda všim, že jste Češi... já se tak zahleděl na tu jízdu, že jsem neviděl ani značky, ani SPZ... 😀
Tommi Mäkinen, like everyone else involved in the R&D of this car, would be proud watching you driving that way. As many other people who commented here, these are some awesome skills. A foot cam would have indeed helped a lot in enhancing our understanding as to how this car should be driven/"abused" properly :)
didn't know that, i thought a bit weird i saw him a lot with a TGR shirt. That clears up a lot and why this car is amazing
TM was involved in its RnD? Makes me love the car even more!
@@midnightpurple555 Of course he was :) Check this out! ruclips.net/video/oSTRf9YoYyA/видео.html
@@efemji he is Toyota's rally team's principal when this car was built. So he's involved as well in the RnD.
I need to mention test driver Lasse Lampi too. He is the man who was involved developing Audi Quattro, Mitsubishi Evos and Toyota Yaris...
Thanks for the lesson. I was driving my car totally wrong all the time 😅
rav to the max :)
😅
heel-and-toe down into first before the corner and then a clutch-kick to break traction and swing it round? either I am mistaken here or this is pure driving art
Edit: well now I see xD the good old handbrake
There is nothing more beautiful than to see a proper car used the proper way😍
Until it slams head on into a family of 4
Other than to see a proper woman used the proper way. Preferably by another proper woman!!

I knew someone would comment about a woman.
@@windwalker121 only a proper man (such as myself) can use (rather handle) a proper woman.
Holy shit. I don't see how the GR Corolla can come close to this. Absolutely amazing display of driver skill and the cars' ability
It's exactly the same car with slightly longer wheelbase and more power. It will drive the same lol
@mitchellsteindler7124 It's the same technology but it's 400lbs heavier, that will make a difference with every input. I bet it'll be great, just can't imagine it being as special to drive as its little brother looks here, I hope I'm wrong as I have a deposit on one
@TSS996GT they actually took a deposit from you? I only got put on a list, second position, no deposit. Hopefully for you that means you're likely to actually get one!
@mitchellsteindler7124 I'm kind of in the same position as you, my dealer wouldn't put anyone on the list without a small deposit. I think I'm 3rd on the list, and I put mine down before the car was announced. Fingers crossed for both of us!
Is the Corolla going to really be as good the Yaris was a special one off production run, smaller , lighter and with a chassis half Yaris half Corolla and extra weld points and glue
amazing driving skills. Smooth drifting without drama.
Wow, like others have said, what an incredibly display of skill! The first drift around the bend and the 180 literally gave me goose bumps, haha. But, what I don't understand is, why don't we see car chases filmed like this in the movies? There is no music, no unnatural sounds, there are no cuts to make the footage look more exciting than it is... it looks fun, exciting and awesome because it IS fun, exciting and awesome. Keep up the good work and living the good life :D
Not enough mass appeal. You and I would love the raw cut but probably most other people wouldn’t get why it’s so nice
watch baby driver, there they got really good driving
Ronin. Best film car chase ever
@@hoonaticbloggs5402 thanks for the recommendation
because movies need to be exciting for all viewers, not just car guys.
Wow!! insane driving skills, the car is perfect, it's not a huge monster but it seems so balanced and healthy, drift exits almost feel surreal, the way it eases into grip... great pov
driving skills?.. what part was a skill :).. you must be joking.. try it yourself and it will be obvious to you that you dont need special skills for it.. ridiculous

car is not balanced well, most of the weight is on front, handbraking is very easy in this car, because it's new and has a light tail
元々ラリーカーとして開発されているのだから、本当は、こういう道でこそ本領が発揮できるサイズとパフォーマンスの車だという事を端的に表している。
Unfortunately most people who buy a GR Yaris won’t drive it like a sports car and instead itl be a trophy piece, this was phenomenal driving well done!
Hard disagree - it's a very popular car here in Estonia and I don't know a single one that doesn't get (ab)used on track and ice driving competitions. The modifying scene also caught up real quick and the main modifications done here are for rally purposes.
I agree, if I bought one I would not be able to do it justice, for one thing, the second I broke the wheels loose on a bend, I would lose my license. And we have some of the best bends here (20+ passes)...
I saw one a couple weeks ago covered in dirt and mud i think it got used
It's not expensive enough, why wouldn't you use it? Not exactly a rare car.
@@VeliRajasaar good for you guys, meanwhile in my country it's used as shopping cart. 95% of GRs will never see track. My friend got one, used it for like week and then never even turned it on, why? Because he daily drives 911 turbo s and just like majority of people that bought it he did it because he could, not because he cared about having it as it's just small little addiction to his collection.
the "beep beep beep" at 0:30 is to inform you that you are now in 1st place
This is way faster than before dude nice job!
That was beautiful
This video and the road reminds me of the video that Keichii Tsuchiya did driving his AE86 in the touge before he became a professional racer. Such a lovely fun car. So disappointed that I can't buy it in the U.S.

This is this dude’s road. He probably drives it all the time. Knowing a road like that is such a sick feeling. That e-brake pull to do it reverse was sooooooooo satisfying.

Interesting to see a relatively new car with an “oldschool” handbrake lever. I don’t find that in any car nowerdays… (sadly)😢
Your videos singlehandedly made me sad the GRY wasn't coming to the USA with you showcasing what a great driver could do with it. Now I'm impatiently waiting for my dealer to call me that a GRC is on the way so I can enjoy it to the max.
You forgot to film the part were you ask the police to close the road because you will be doing stunts. That is the most difficult part.
Crazy how your shoving that thing in first gear so hard! Thats how you drive a car right there. On the edge fully at the safe slower speeds. Being,on the edge going 100 on public roads is a viper waiting to strike but 1st, 2nd, or 3rd geared corners whilst sideways is always a fun, moderately safe way to thrash a car. I love it
How I feel driving mine... but absolutely not in practice... This was an EPIC display. Love it
Now that's what you call driving!
Can't wait to see some of these, like every WRX, on the used market! "Adult driven, well maintained, showroom condition, never beat on, $1000000000 in upgrades!"
Am I the only one who is getting goosebumps while watching it?! Btw, this guy has some serious driving skills!
From watching the video, can confirm, he can drive.
I'm getting cortisol because I want one but Toyota won't sell it in the US
what skills man, properly driven indeed. Also that AWD pull out of drift gives so much confidence boost, AWD is truly best all condition drivetrain.
This deserves a foot camera
The abuse 1st gear is taking in the video is crazy! Even downhill, would love to see it sliding in 2nd
Hi can you do a video like this but with the GR86 next?! ❤
I Organize touge races in Switzerland (eastern part). We usually close down roads completely at night in order to do stuff like this. How do you handle traffic? Or do you just rely on luck that nobody shows up?
they said in another vid that the road was closed due to construction in the village, and they had spotters at each end
@@josephkennedy1212 aah, smart
So cool to see one of these special little cars in the hands of someone who can actually drive it the way it deserves to be driven. My hat's off to you sir... You earned the Sub.

Definition of FULL SEND right here.
I wouldn't drive that mad on a public road. Imagine a family car or touring trying to enjoy the bendy corners on a family/corporate holidays. And a guy trying to show off on the RUclips changes your entire live... (Hopefully the road was closed)
Amazing driver skills and the car just does what it does best! GR Yaris is a beast, hopefully the GR Corolla can live up to this!
The GR Corolla is the exact same vehicle. Haven't people been paying attention?
@@sunrisesunset1734 yes similar drivetrain with more HP, but also weighs more and bigger overall so dynamics won’t be as nimble as the Yaris. Still will be a thrill of a ride.

Man... good driving skills. Respect!
great driving... it looks epic in red!
Sorry I prefer cars with basic comfort like a reading lamp for the rear passengers and small leds in the buttons to be able to spot them in the darkness.
This is lovely to watch! Nice driving 👍
Uphill sliding is boring, entertaining to amateurs only. Lets see some downhill.
Does this auto rev match or do you have to perform heel-toe? Either way, very impressive. Very interesting that you have to go into 1st gear! I've never driven an IRL car like that, but I would expect that 2nd would be enough on a wet road.
It can automatically rev match but you can turn it off and do it yourself
at the end you can see that he drops from 3rd to 1st through 2nd without releasing clutch a the revs bump 2times while right foot is on the brake only
A wee bit sped up, but good entertainment none the less. Thx for spanking it for us. =)
This is what this car is made for 💪👌👏
Amazing skills Amazing driving Its a shame irs só muito caro
Wow! I have one and drive it like an OAP in comparison. The Yaris is a really special car though, the speed you can ‘comfortably’ drive at down small bumpy country B roads is truly astonishing
That's a true respect video, not the ones where somebody cuts a watermelon in 1 second
Just when I thought he had messed up, he showed us how good he really is.
Its really sad that 95% of the people who own cars like this are not able to get anywhere near the cars potential

Not insane driving skills.
However, very competent. Not an insult to this driver, rather a reminder to so many of the commenters that they have not seen that many race drivers who ARE actually 'INSANE'.
Great chassis. Just the right conditions to highlight its potential.
All round, a very enjoyable video.

Oh you are so correct, a driver in the 99th percentile sure is not insanely good.
