I went there over the weekend, brilliant foot and boot sizing service. Quite a few things I didn't know about my feet; one foot is slightly bigger than the other. We tried lots of different boots on and was surprised on how different each boot (regardless of being the same marketed size) fitted differently. I narrowed it down to the Salomon 4D 3 GTX boot as it was incredibly comfortable for my foot anatomy. Highly recommended.
In my experience Cotswolds Outdoor is a very good outdoor retailer. The Bicester store is really good. That said I bought my last pair of hill walking boots from Fishers in Keswick and the service was superb 👍👍
I have always experienced excellent service at Cotswold store in Cardiff and on line. Credit where it’s due. Meindl Vakuum for me next. Thanks for the vid
Well, as was alluded to by a commenter a year ago, there is promotional video and then there is reality. Cotswold Outdoors is certainly one of the better outdoor shops here in Britain but my experience of going there to get a new pair of boots once was nothing like this video. I mentioned the boot fitting service, and essentially the staff (mid to late 20s) did everything possible to avoid having to do anything detailed in this video (none of the measurement analysis, foot shape etc). It was, as with most stores selling any footwear these days, the customer pretty much left to fit things themselves while the staff member just watched passively until you pulled out the payment card and the extent of boot recommendations being pointing to the most expensive boots on offer, first and foremost. I'm sorry, but it was nothing like the video. I understand each store has better staff than others, but let's be realistic, staff are trained as sales staff and the amount of attention given (or not) to customers is based on guess-timate judgements around perceived age and spending potential of those they see walk through the door.
Thanks for the feedback, we've taken this up with the store in question. We'd like to reassure you that this isn't the standard we expect and any of our stores would welcome you in for a thorough boot fitting in the future. ^TH
The Cotswold in Betws-Y-Coed is very good, i got the service shown in the video there. They even spent an hour with me helping me find the correct superfeet insole that suited my feet. However their Solihull branch ( now closed down) was useless, not foot measuring offered and the assistant just read the blurb off the box to me.
I remember as a kid all Clarks shoe shops did this, I never had a pair of shoes that were uncomfortable from Clarks, maybe not the trendiest though. All shoe shops should do this.
Thanks for the info, i bought a pair of boots online the same size as my normal shoe size, they never fitted right ! With this info the next pair will fit like a glove many thanks,
Brought my LOWA Renegade GTX W from Cotswold Outdoor, just brought MEINDL SARN GTX boots elsewhere. Now these are wide boots!!! Shame Cotswold do not cater for people with wide feet,(read that extra wide) Sadly I think the LOWA's are now redundant and set to become plant pots by the front door. Because they were never wide enough! Great video with a lacking product range for wide feet.
I was trying on some walking shoes last week. The member of staff suggested I have my feet measured but didn't seem keen and after waiting 5 minutes I asked if he would measure my feet. Another customer came in who was known to the staff and I was left on my own at that point. I left the shop and bought some shoes online, knowing what size to order.

Raven Lancaster - really... would love to see a shop like this in the US. Perhaps there is one here somewhere, but I haven't been able to find one dedicated to the perfect fit like this video represents.
that's what I call a professional shoes shop. I wish each shop with outdoor equipment has such professional service. the boots showed in this video are Meindl Borneo 2. I tried them in a shop last September. they were very comfortable for me, but the problem is, they have to low rubber protection on the toe.
A pity there are no stores likes this in my country. I'm sick of going to stores who do the same shit like the others and have stupid salesperson who have no idea what they are selling
Struggling to find the best fitting footwear? Watch this video to find out more about how our expert staff can help you choose and fit your perfect walking boots.
I'm in the market for a new pair of boots and have difficulty getting them to fit - this has lead to blisters galore. I take it this video is still current and this service is still provided as standard?
Not the service I received over the weekend in one of your London branches. The store was practically empty yet I had to flag down a member of staff to help. Asked for my size in a £350 pair of Scarpa boots. She got them, handed them to me and walked away. I didn't see her or any other member of staff again. I left the store.
I suffer with Plantar fasciitis which I think is linked to me buying poor quality walking shoes. Would your shoe assistants be able to advise on which boot would be best for me?
The real test is when you have spent a week or two trying them out. Leather and fabric loosens up and the shoe isn't comfortable anymore. I would spend the money to have custom made hiking boots. My foot is wide at the front and narrow at the arch and heel. Hard the find good shoes.
Hi! I'm currently trying to search for trekking shoes and i'm going to use the shoes for camping and field works in forested areas here in the Philippines (a tropical SE Asian country) such as open-woodland and rainforests. I want shoes that is waterproof and breathable at the same time with excellent traction/grip in slippery areas, preferably midcut for protection during hiking while carrying heavy loads but also light weight since i walk fast haha. I have sweaty feet so its quite an issue. Suggestions about variety of shoes to choose from is highly appreciated. Thank you :)
Good morning, Do you live near a store? bit.ly/1QiNWDF We strongly advise to go into your local store to discuss your requirements and get a free boot fitting. Many thanks, ^JH
People need to realise, just because the shoes or boots seem to fit better, does not necessarily mean they're better for the rest of the body. As people elevate their heals, they put more pressure on their spine, especially their lumbar (lower back). Also, it is not advisable to use innersoles that have a hard cupped heal, or other orthotic-style innersoles, unless prescribed by a podiatrist. Often the person needs to strengthen their foot and ancle muscles instead. (I'm a licensed PT with several rehabilitation certifications, including ancle and foot re-hab.) Basically, it's worth doing your research, rather than just going by what a sales person suggests (trained or not), such as seeking professional advice from a podiatrist, exercise physiologist, physiotherapist etc.
I stopped using the ubiquitously recommended Superfeet insoles a couple of years ago as they were beating up my socks and I realised they were beating up my feet too. I switched to a gel insole, and chose Swartz Anatomic Absorbers, made for military use, specifically 'tabbing', also known as 'yomping' - heavily laden mixed pace movement on variable terrain. I wasn't sure at first but when my feet began to recover from the damage done by the excessively harsh Superfeet insoles I was rewarded by much greater comfort and stability. I also found I didn't need to keep re-tying my laces to make up for the loft lost from my socks as they got pounded into submission by my former insole choice. Gel insoles from now on.
The video bore absolutely no resemblance to my experience which was basically an assistant (very friendly and helpful but no more knowledgeable I think than any High Street shoe shop assistant) bringing out loads of boots for me to try on until I thought I'd got a pair to suit! Ending up taking a pair home but returned them soon after. All a bit disappointing.
I wish stores had worn in sample boots we could wear for a longer time. Ive bought boots before that felt Amazing in the store, but 5 minutes of walking revealed they were the wrong size
Awesome service. I wish we had Cotswold Outdoor stores here in the States.

I love the video it is the exact opposite of how your Edinburgh store deal with you.
Meindl!❤ Great and excellent service. We also have a store like this here in The Netherlands called Bever Sport.
O my good grief I'd love to find a store like that in the US. I have very wide feet that are hard to fit. I hate buying shoes at all because of it!

When I'm scaling Everest I don't need boots because I'm always riding a goat. Easy. Relaxing. Free milk, too...
Excelente, daría mucho gusto que nuestras tiendas atendieran a sus clientes como lo hacen ustedes. Un cordial saludo y sigan mejorando.
liked the advertising looking forward to go to the nearest shop.
Cotswold is the best outdoor shop in the uk
Always a pleasure to buy outdoor footwear in the South Cerny shop.
Cotswold are a great company.

I have to give credit when it's due. I bought my boots from the Cardiff store and the staff were brilliant
I like to test my boot by running away from the store.

I went to REI yesterday. They don't have any of this.

Wow, great video for an obviously outstanding store & service! Do you pay for shipping-that is, shipping me to you? Haha
Do all those boots give you ankle protection ?

Where is this store?
is this service offered in all the stores or is it only larger stores?
Scentmonk: All stores (according to this video).
Let Steve speak for himself

If I get that kind of fitting, I'd have no problems paying RRP

I went there and they gave me boots that last me 3 months because they are too small
