This clip is doing the rounds at the moment (Thanks Adil Ray!) given the news and all I'd like to say is, wouldn't it be great to see a new version of this?

As an American, I'd happily exchange most of our commercial networks (especially Fox News) for access to the BBC!!
British television is far superior to 99% of what we get here.

It's funny that before this advertisement the closing credits of I claudius was shown. That's something the BBC has given. Also this advertisement is based on the part of the monty python's flying circus movie the life of Brian. When John cleese's character is asking "what have the romans ever given us?"

I was the media ‘buyer’ on this campaign!
My main job was buying advertising on commercial channels but the BBC approached the agency I worked at to develop and run an ad campaign.
It was great fun slotting this as an ad campaign with zero costs and no competition!

The TRUTH is that if private enterprise attempted the range of programmes coughed up by the Beeb each year, they'd be wanting to frisk you for a damn sight more than £150!!

Oddly they never included the wonders and joys of BBC local radio in this advert...did they not have any faith in it back then by any chance?... and considering how long ago this was made, perhaps they should have included Mystic Meg..
