Thanks for this video, it was helpful! I’ll be looking for a helper soon for my parents. This is a good way on how I should set it up. :)

Thank you for saying all these things. I hope and pray filipinos will learn and change for good cos I also experienced this. Not as a businessman but just a regular person when I was there. It happens. Another great video.

useful video. i sent it to a friend of mine who is currently selling his law firm and moving to the Philippines to retire. he will start a business to keep his mind active in retirement, so hiring employees for his work and home will be necessary. great advice

That's true, never take it for granted just because your boss is kind, be humble and respectful, no marites and focused to your job but some are taking your kindness for granted so better drove them. That's a lesson for all 😅

In your experience, if you rewarded good employees with significant higher wages, why are they not more loyal? Logic would dictate not easy to get another job equal pay to begin with. Good video, great advice.😊😊😊

I get that it doesn’t seem logical but so much here goes against Western logic. I think part of it is that in a developing country, most people are just thinking of today and not hardly tomorrow much less a week from now. I think it’s a survival instinct to just focus on the moment. I’m not saying it works this way with everyone, but it’s very very common.

@WatchCaliforniaExpat OMG, John, here in Costa Rica, it is exactly true. They get paid and broke within 48 hours, no thinking next week, etc. I am shocked to realize the parallels. 🤔🤔🤔

You are 100% correct, that’s been my experience here also, because I tend to want to overpay at the beginning to show my appreciation for their hard work.
So to avoid what you described so accurate as far as foreigners, paying helpers, I turn that over to my Filipina wife whenever I can.
As far as the subject of logic, all foreigners need to relearn the idea of western or European style logic. It just doesn’t work here, you just have to go with the flow and surprisingly somehow it works.

Give em a raise and they stop showing up to work on time and then they will quit soon after. Pay em the bare legal minimum and they do their best work. My experience here in PH

Thiis is a great topic for your channel -- Leveraging your expertise on hwo to do business in the PH is focus your channel should have. Some of your otgher content is outside of your highest competency; too generic relative to hordes of bloggers.

I appreciate that, but I’ve had a channel like that for five years and it never gained much traction because people don’t care too much only about doing business in the Philippines so I started this channel a year ago to include topics that people care more about. I will talk more about business here too, though than I have in the past if you want to see the other channel, it is in the description of every video.

Just a word of encouragement to you. Don't know of another channel combo business/ personal for the Philippines. Great content, enjoy very much.😊😊😊

Question. Is that Cebu specific pay or is that a rough general rate for anywhere? Also have you had any foreigners ask for work who moved there to retire or live but maybe need more income?
