I think the term used in 1991, was "dampen." "Skank", was not to be used in polite company. But we ladies in the battery would have probably laughed louder than the guys. "Helicopter"...yeah, those are a workout. Love the channel!
Cymbals too but he might need a bit of help with that one. Mans can play some cymbals but doesn’t have the wealth of knowledge on visuals that other people may have (and this is perfectly okay, not hating on anyone)
Loopy Grandma here ... so glad to be featured in your Essential Tenor Drum Rudiment Tier List. 😘🥰 I think it’s awesome to be Loopy. 😜 Hopefully many of your morning people have a Loopy Grandma! (Only a true Loopy Grandma would appreciate the Siamese Casey-Claw) 😂😂🤣🤣
Shouldn’t be too difficult. Eric and TonyG already showed their technique creating triangles out of miscellaneous steel rods from Lowe’s. But they will have to purchase a new cowbell, since Eric’s Cowbell still is maintaining her vow of silence.
I've played so many of these patterns as a fellow tenor drummer... but never put names to a lot of them, these are pretty great. "Phantom Grandmas" are so much fun, and so is the rest of that '07 feature, haha.
I'mma need to come back to this in the spring when I get ready to write the stuff for my kids show next season. Some good tenor patterns here I could utilize to help them get better and pump those competition scores.
Just as a random throw out, the RCC tenor line had the Polynesian Nightmares as part of one of their warmups. I know this because I learned that damn thing and got stuck trying to get it right for a while lol
Both of my grandmas are phantoms, and neither were loopy, though I didn’t really know my one since she died when I was two, but the other did have a lot of doilies … thanks for bringing up painful memories. Good Morning
Yo, I don't know if you've done any Break It Down-style videos before, but if you get bored I'd love to see you transcribe and learn the SCV 2017 quad breaks! Thanks for the content And sound quality 🔥
Dude you should check out Sean Vega's Tenor Solo from I&E back in '95' At the end is a variation of your South Jersey Casey-Claw. It's pretty sweet. I use to love seeing the look on some of my fellow drummers when I would mess around and do that rudiment myself on my "Bass Drum". (Post '95') "Goodtimezz, now that's great stuff"😅 I'm pretty sure you can find Vega's Solo here on RUclips. BTW, Nice Chops Bro!! Rob "Bass" Sanchez
I’d argue ultimate double stops, and the other ones that are building block techniques actually kinda fit the bill for what a rudiment is supposed to be best. So most of the things in F tier are really more S tier than the real one. Because yes they are random techniques but it’s those simple ones that when practiced effectively will give you the muscle and movement to start hitting the others significantly better. Kinda the same way the single stroke four is very useful despite it just being 4 notes, all the single strokes are good at building a stronger pulse. And Flams are just part of other rudiments but I’d your regular foams aren’t good then that will transfer to mills flam taps Swiss armies etc... so yeah your F tiers are really just the best most basic things to practice
So I play tenors in marching band. Nothing too difficult at all. This coming school year, I’m gonna be a senior and I wanna pull out all the stops and get serious about tenor playing. Where should I start?
RCC's fall 2003 tenor line had the Polynesian Nightmare in a solo. Wouldn't be surprised if Vega wrote it for a line before that. ruclips.net/video/mzMp5zW0kRQ/видео.html (Solo at the 2 minute 14 second mark.)
Are all of the crossovers necessary, or are they mostly just for show? It looks cool, but can't some of these rudiments be played without all of the fanfare? Please bear in mind I am not a percussionist.
A little of both, and really it just depends. For example, if you wanted to play a bunch of his early crossover patterns in the video "un-crossed," you could - however it would mean you would have to hit all of those same drums using left-hand lead (LRLR) instead of right-hand lead (RLRL), and most marching percussion parts are intentionally written right-hand lead. You could, of course, do it the other way and keep the right-hand lead playing (RLRL), but change the notes (pattern of drums you hit) if you wanted to remove the crossovers. But that might not be what they're going for musically (and/or visually... let's be honest, haha).
Keep in mind a lot of these "rudiments" he's showing in the video are mainly just tenor-drum-specific skillsets to build muscle memory for to be able to do in certain situations where it's actually necessary as a tenor drummer. The majority of the music you actually play on tenors does not look like this, but these types of patterns (especially the "high-tier" patterns on his list) do come up sometimes which are unique to tenors (don't count the absurd ones near the end... haha those are just him having fun).

Thanks for this list, all always wanna something like to practice in the drumset.
I could actually practice rudiments now.
This is helping me so much with my auditions for K-States drumline! Thank you!!
Bass line rudiments?
Thank you so much!
I think the term used in 1991, was "dampen." "Skank", was not to be used in polite company. But we ladies in the battery would have probably laughed louder than the guys. "Helicopter"...yeah, those are a workout. Love the channel!
Well, now that we've got official rudiment lists for snare and tenors... can you show the basses some love?
It’s always a good sign when he hearts the post , here’s to hoping my bass brother
Cymbals too but he might need a bit of help with that one. Mans can play some cymbals but doesn’t have the wealth of knowledge on visuals that other people may have (and this is perfectly okay, not hating on anyone)
@@hunteralexander9791 agreed, as a former cymbal player i would love to see some of those
Can we get triangle rudiments
Triplets, 3s, 4s, 5s
As a drumset player, this was a very interesting insight into tenor vocabulary and sweeping.
this would've been some incredible tenor rudiments for me to learn if only I discovered a video like this 17 years ago!
Catching up on unwatched EMCproductions videos ... under THIS account! With Ads!!! Earning Eric the big bucks!!!
I read this title as "EMC's Existential Terror Drum Rudiment Tier List", which is totally a video you should make.
Excellent rudiment breakdown, those Pudita Sweeps always get me!
14:18 RCC also has it as a part of their “medley” warmup.
Coolest triple cross is 1990 Phantom. They were the first I saw really do it. They did it with power too.
Video 2 of commenting till emc makes a cowbell vibraslap
Yes
Let’s gooo round two. ❤️

Man you got all of the good ideas
But you also have all of the ideas 😂
Been done, kinda. There used to be an LP vibraslap model that had a metal body, were hella loud, and would ring FOR.E.VER.
I've played so many of these patterns as a fellow tenor drummer... but never put names to a lot of them, these are pretty great. "Phantom Grandmas" are so much fun, and so is the rest of that '07 feature, haha.
If we get amazingdrummer27's channel to 100k subs, Eric has to play Beast And The Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold flawlessly.
When did he say that?
@@mrnicknick02 he didn't. I'm trying to get him to. 🤣🤫
...Idk if the world can handle Steven Sassafrass's cover of that song
@@EMCproductions I meant you cover it, but omfg that would the funniest thing ever🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'mma need to come back to this in the spring when I get ready to write the stuff for my kids show next season. Some good tenor patterns here I could utilize to help them get better and pump those competition scores.
You should rank college lines like you did NFL lines.
Just as a random throw out, the RCC tenor line had the Polynesian Nightmares as part of one of their warmups. I know this because I learned that damn thing and got stuck trying to get it right for a while lol
I have yet to see anyone as talented as EMC on the tube. AWESOME!
Both of my grandmas are phantoms, and neither were loopy, though I didn’t really know my one since she died when I was two, but the other did have a lot of doilies … thanks for bringing up painful memories. Good Morning
i just got placed on the one tenor spot on my high school drum line thank you so much for this it will help a lot
I’m actually going to be using this! I tend to fall into a habit of writing the same things on tenors and I would like to break that.
boston crusaders snares 2024 "glitch" is playing the polynesian nightmare!
Can you play Chopstakovich by Jesse Sieff or add your own tenor spin on it?
This
That sounds like hell lol
I need this
FIRST COMMENT. Good job.

The Jared Andrews double stops!! Blue devils 05 quad line
We sometimes change the sticking into candy apples for our cadences if our hands are feeling good lol
Doylees and Helicopters...... definitely many rim tics back in my day! But, once you nail em...... you're the coolest kid in band! 😉
5:04 Stroking The Head Flashbacks!
14:18 rcc 2018/2019 lot exercise “the medley”
RCC did the polynesian nightmare in 2018 i believe!! i think it was a replica of the scv solo but still very cool
also i tried them for like three hours and i still cant get them theyre very hard
Time to add this to my repertoire
So happy to catch one this early! Good Morning!
This is actually really helpful for me for writing for my lines. Thank.
Bass Rudiments would be lit!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for this vid/ list. I bought a set of tenors just to suck a little less at drums/ write for my line.
i somehow self taught myself #4 without even knowing of its existence, fun stuff
We call the "helicopter" a "butterfly" around here.
That stare at 13:10 made me spit out my water lol also, I’m glad that I know what a Polynesian Nightmare is now lol

5:10 i smell stroking the head

RCC quads do the Polynesian nightmare in one of their solo pieces (2018-present)
Can you make videos of you tryin to recreate the drumline movie routines! I would like to see that!
No one:

Have I been getting helicopters and figure 8s backwards this whole time? Could have sworn it's the other way around from this video
Now do splits
2s 3s 4s, singles, hand to hands, one hand split hertas, etc
Video 5 of commenting until EMC makes an entire battery percussion section out of spocks and 8 inch splash cymbals
Shoutout to Bird for the pdd scrape. No 3 drum gocks tho, smh
Do a tier list for bass splits
Would you recommend ts7 twnor sticks for parades ? Or which would be your choice

I’m looking to get a tenor pad what should I get. I’m looking at either Ahead or Prologix
13:13 should have been called The General Grevious.
Hello there
Hey EMC, what are your thoughts on the Ohio State University Marching Band?
Anyone else learn helicopters as a "Butterfly Sweep"?
Number 3 sounds like a train.
Do d and k cadence plz

So where to find this list?
ok but what are the last rudiments
Me too
Is it just me or is 13:59 played incorrectly?
Something in my music says “dreads” what is that?

Sorry, but at 00:00, Eric has an almost perfectly in-tune G. I hate perfect pitch sometimes
12:15 hahaha XD
Um dumb question but what do the non shaded notes mean
One of the two popular notations for crossing one hand over the other
Are all of the crossovers necessary, or are they mostly just for show? It looks cool, but can't some of these rudiments be played without all of the fanfare? Please bear in mind I am not a percussionist.

For sweeps and crossovers, its less about playing any specific drum and its more about difficulty and showing virtuosity.
