    Just sharing:
I was first grade in high school, joined concert band as a freshman. I belonged to percussion section, and trusted to played accessories. After a month, we have our first concert at city station. As long as I practiced, I was told to use a soft bass drum mallet to hit the gong, and told to hit it really hard. I have a gong hit (about mf) on 3rd bar of our first song. At the show, I was told to use real (hard) gong mallet. And as a good freshman, I did what I should. Next what I heard was the loudest gong sound I ever heard. I panicly muted the gong. At home, I listened to the recording and heard that my gong sounded so loud that the rest of the band can't be heard. What an embarrassing and unforgettable first experience.

@@Deus_Vult7 right! Last yeae we had a confusion with this one section in movement 3 and 4. Movement 3 there was a part where battery a drum break. Basses and i had a problem with who's playin' what because we a had a 6/8 and a 7/8 thing and this 6/4 thing goin' on in like 6 maybe 8 measures of those. Basically we were playin' over each others splits or not playin' our splits and then 4th movement we had a weird thing where they replaced this one very SMALLLL part where its like a unison but only me(bass 3),bass 4 and 5 are playin' a triplet but the problem is, me or one of the other basses are only playin' that and tye other 2 arent because we kept forgettin' they CHANGED that. Even durin' the SHOW we STILL didn't play it and yet it was fine apparently. So yeah we had a lot of problems last year especially basses(tenors had choreography problems and snares would be rushing 16th notes, the usual)

I remember during marching season, I was scared about getting cut. I was one of the few eighth graders playing in the high school marching band and I was on drumset. Two people on the drumline always talked about how I couldn't keep time very well on it. I was scared that I was going to get cut because one of those 2 was a tenor player who wanted to play drumset that year until I took his spot. Later in the season, they were a lot nicer to me and I had good runs. I just struggled at the beginning.

So it’s around the end of my first ever marching season and I might’ve said it on this channel before but the only reasons I was given for getting cut were:
    1. Couldn’t make it to the majority of the clinics (couldn’t get anyone to take me)
    2. “I like when you play clarinet more.”
    *stares at squidward horn*
“I loathe this contraption of torture.”

hello! i noticed weve got quite a bit of story sharing round here so i thought id share mine! i found my way to my highschool’s front ensemble from the foreign land of the bassoon. i was the third marimba and while intimidated at first, i grew to love the percussion section and was very very sad to let it and the percussion section members go going into concert season, ive only just completed my first year and was contemplating the thought of joining drum-line next year. any input?

@@RyanKrebs518 the thought has certainly been crossing my mind, and i have been scouring last year’s audition music, but the thing is i lowkey cant really afford lessons and have 0 experience on drums other than youtube and stuff🫠 so……might be a foreign dream for a bit longer, tho i did love the marimba

#12 is actually valid if the instructor is biased against a student, like my freshman year percussion instructor

Hi EMCproducitions. If you see this please read it, I seriously need advice. I am worried about being cut. Not because of a lack of skill or anything but I'm in a bit of a situation. Today, first rehearsal of the season, we have our drumline practice. I show up and they ask me what drum I want to be on, now last year I was cut too for not going to band camp. This year the two section leaders are playing two snares, but one of the section leaders isn't going to be here for a month. I want to know what I should do. I really don't want to go back to the front ensemble and I'm extremely dedicated, skilled, and passionate about drumline. There are only 3 snare 5 bass and 2 tenors. I know you're probably not going to have the answers to the universe, but what do you think I should do ?

I got cut from snare in a college band just cause of skill, so I got moved to bass drum. We did a marching block, where I was standing in the wind. So i’m pretty much holding a parachute, and got cut cause I was swaying, and moved to cymbals. Then I got cut again for no apparent reason. I asked to try out for the pit as it was the last day of drum camp, and they said no. Three cuts in three days, that was fun…
