Staraptor best early bird
Puppy Lover thats a fact
Talonflame before the Gale Wings nerf gave Staraptor a run for it's money.
Sure Staraptor is pumping out quite a bit more power initially, but permanent priority STAB flying moves including status moves like Roost was no joke. Setup with Swords Dance and that's pretty much GG. 😂
I could only imagine how broken Talonflame would be in today's meta if they didn't nerf Gale Wings. Think of round 1 Swords Dance followed by endless priority Brave bird and the looming threat of the Flyinium Z Supersonic Skystrike nuke, and priority Roost to heal when needed or priority Tailwind to shift the balance.
As good as Staraptor is, even it wouldn't be able to keep up with that.
The Missing Link I disagree. As amazing as Talonflame seems to be pre-nerf it still doesn’t have the coverage it actually needs nor the stats to back up the good moves it actually has.
Priority roost/brave bird/tailwind sound amazing, but giving a priority-based ability to a pokemon already in the highest tier speed in the game with a base 126 speed seems a bit redundant. Meanwhile with an hp and defenses both in the 70’s (sp def actually 69) even taking one turn to roost is risky because getting hit even by not very effective moves is gonna hurt. On top of that, Talonflame doesn’t even hit hard. It has base 81 attack. To put that into perspective, that is lower than Amoongus’ base attack (at 85). Even with a sword’s dance (which again requires one turn to set up/take damage) it’s not gonna be hitting THAT hard.
But ultimately, what really destroys Talonflame’s potential is the existence of rocks. Stealth rock which is in practically 4 out of every 5 teams make it so that an already frail pokemon, who’s signature move has recoil damage, always loses 50% of its health upon switch in. And all you really need to stop it is a rock type, sine they resist all of talonflame’s viable movesets, and usually have pretty good defense stats.
Meanwhile Staraptor has two abilities which benefit it both greatly, in either increasing its bulk or increasing its already massive 120 base attack, has one of the best coverage moves against rock types in the form of close combat, and only takes 25% instead of 50% from stealth rocks. So in conclusion, I think staraptor was better even before the nerf.
Jesus Vazquez Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't their movesets basically identical? I'm pretty sure the only good coverage move Staraptor has over Talonflame is Close Combat. Talonflame gets Flare Blitz though. And it actually does have some interesting other moves worth experimenting with such as Solar Beam ( Grassium Z) bomb or Z- Me First.
And with all due respect, saying Gale Wings on Talonflame is redundant is like saying Unburden on Hawlucha is useless. There are plenty of strategies that can be used with said abilities. For example, Talonflame gets access to Acrobatics. Paired with a Tapu and seed for items, Talonflame would have been a force out of the gate as now it would have higher Def or SpD and it completely removes the drawback of Brave Bird recoil. It's not at strong but base 110 STAB is nothing to sneeze at.
Also, speed does not guarantee you'll be moving first. There are plenty of pokemon that are faster than Talonflame right out of the gate. Also, trickroom is a thing. Having all the speed in the world doesn't help you when trickroom is being set up. But having priority completely bypasses trickroom shenanigans. Not to mention speed bracket matters when it comes to priority ties. With such Naturally high speed, Talonflame is winning most of the time over pokemon that use priority move strategies.
And yes, Talonflame is not as strong as Staraptor but with 1 Swords dance a full ATk EV Adamant Talonflame's attack is in equal range of a Full ATK EV Adamant Nature Reckless Staraptor with Choice Band on and Talonflame can still hold an item. Put a life orb on and you blow Staraptor out of the water in terms of power. Sure it may take a turn to setup but to saying that's the big drawback of using Sword Dance is kinda dumb. I mean there are way more frail pokemon out there using Swords Dance or Dragon Rage strategies that work just fine.
Besides, as I mentioned, if Gale Wings was not nerfed, there would be no point in speed investment. All EVs could go to HP and Atk or HP and defenses and you double down on the Swords Dance with priority roost to recover if neeeded.
One thing I can say about Staraptor is that it is usually slow enough to get 1 shot KOd before it can doing anything..Sure, you can go Choice Scarf route but you lose so much power without Band.
I will agree with you about the 4x to Stealth Rocks but that's just how it goes. With that said though, anything with a 4x to rocks become useless.
Lastly, Close Combat is nice but boy is it a double edged sword. Hope you kill you opponent or it's over for you on the retaliation hit.
Anyway, my point wasn't to say one is better than the other. It was to point out that Talonflame rivals Staraptor in utility and usefulness. Outside of having Close Combat, and a naturally higher base attack, I don't see any more advantages. There are plenty of ways around intimidate and reckless is good but Starptor is too slow when taking full advantage of it. And lastly, Stealth Rocks aren't super common, and can always be cleared. But with that said, Talonflame has some tricks of it's own. Gale Wings is an incredible ability. Unnerfed it broke the meta in Gen 6 because Talonflame was a nightmare late game sweeper.
I cant decide between Staraptor and Talonflame
That first Trainer must have forgotten about Healing Wish's powers.
No they were a lengendary noob to begin with
ENCORE WHYYYY?!
This is WHY Staraptor is the best bird
Zelous Gen 6 Talonflame: Am I a joke to you?!
@@TheMissingLink2 Gen 7: I'm gonna end this Brave Bird whole's career
Gotta love that thumbs up on your profile pic
The Missing Link no but it is compare to staraptor
Corviknight joins in the chat
a normal flying type with both brave bird and close combat. truly a beginning adventure bird literally no one deserved
Why?
the ultimate coverage after togekiss who has aura sphere and air slash in gen 4 for special side
@@Mr.Sax. because an early bird pokemon usually does not have a move that can cover their weaknesses, staraptor was the first with learning close combat.
@@rogue1248 The question was about why did he say "no one deserved". I was 5 years old when I played Pokemon Yellow, loved Pidgeot but it sucked in game. Then Noctowl was even worse. Swellow was another very cool, much faster but weaker Pokemon. It wasn't until Staraptor appeared that we got a regional bird that could kick everyone's ass.
@@Mr.Sax. yea, i know the question, i just pointed out the qualities of why Staraptor is a bird "no one deserves"
day 2 of asking vizually to make a pikachu sweep called "This is why Pikachu is the mascot of pokemon"
Red already did that lol
_DID MY BUFF BOI JUST ONE-SHOT PRIMAL GROUDON?_
Shiny Staraptor is phenomenal.
I love this type of video. Not too much editing, great strats, awesome team composition and opponents who know what they are doing. Please never stop making these videos.
Imma just go quoting FSG from his vid "how good was staraptor actually?"
"....its new ability, reckless. Which turns its brave bird into an ABSOLUTE NUKE against EVERYTHING except impish skarmory"
lol
Gen 4 had a couple of good birbs.
they had an amazing starter birb
gen 4 literally had everything, that y its a masterpiece

I knew this was a staraptor appreciation video from the thumbnail already. Like, Barry’s staraptor killed me so many times.
Fun fact: nobody liked ur comment cause of ur profile pic
I never thought Staraptor could OHKO Primal Groudon lol
It did took some hazard damage.
@@Pantomime0709 yeah but it was really low
Wtf, Blacephelon actually did something besides die this vid Pog.
I swr it's shiny is so friking lit but it kinda sux in combat
@@Someone-do6zm ,its just frail it hits crazy hard tho,too bad kartana outclasses it in that department
11:06 Paired with the music this actually make this a pretty sad scene. As staraptor grasps on to its last bits of strength it gets off its last double-edge to finish off the Swampert, but in return it falls as well. 😢
0:02 so cool 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I always have a Staraptor on my team in Sinnoh playthroughs
definitely the 4th generation had the coolest designs
Staraptor, the best looking starter bird (before Mega Pidgeot) that ever existed.
Like If You Haved An Staraptor During Your Sinnoh Adventure ;)
Dude, look at when he sends out Blacephalon. Just before it used Mind Blown, the yellow dots on his head blinked, meaning that Blacephalon HAS EYES.
Staraptor don't smell like the victory, the victory smells like staraptor
Brave Bird, it's going down!!!
I usually use it with shell bell, to recover a bit of damage every brave bird

Hey viz awesome video as always. And I've wanted u to use eviolite dusclops forever. Do u think you'll be able to use it any time soon??
salamence was clowning around...smh
Well-played!
all your eggs in a staraptor basket
6:29 how was the ferrothorn faster than the whimsicott with tailwind
I wondered that too
The only things I can think of are Lagging Tail or Full Incense.
Lagging tail whimsicott is a set that guarantees a slow u-turn to bring another Pokémon out safely.
That mess clear as hell
This reminds of decidueye
Is this ultra sun and moon? If so, are these 3DS graphics??
Nope. It's because of an emulator called citra on pc
@@Rahul-ej7iu I thought you couldn't play multi-player on Citra?
Rahul Prinjha so how is he playing against another player?
Clint Behnke he’s just playing on ds u can play on pc and ds at the same time I think
Do not check my profile description. I’m not too sure. All I know is that citra makes the gameplay 100x better
Nice video
