yea the performance cams usually have too tight a tolerance on the cam bearings. So you can push them in the case and rotate the cam should have a few thousands of play. I dont remember the specs. VW Darrin in a few videos back has a video on the fitting the cam bearings.
yea that align bore was not machined fully. You might be able to just carefully file that edge down and it might work ok. That was a good eye on seeing that and not running that case. We had a align bore machine go bad and had 5 engines come back in the late 80s over a couple thousands. almost ran us out of business. and the center bearings all went in just fine. My guess is that the engine would not have run that long before it seized.
@@onehappykombi no all the line bore stuff got sold. that should not have any edge like that. almost looks like the bit was a bit dull. My line bores look super shiny. almost like a mirror.
Great that you show the great Mike Fn’s video! Also you need to make sure that the oiling holes in the bearings match the ones in the case. Lately there’s been problems with that. If the case has been line bored it’s important that the bearings you were supplied with match the measurements of the line boring that was done.
yea that thust bearing surface was not machined fully. at least he caught it. That video series was not a waste of time. helped a lot of people get through a build. Not everyone can afford a engine builder anymore. This inflation really sucks.
I’ve never dig this deep on my Vdub so props for going there. I’m sure you’ve already checked out vwdarrin. He has a ton of engine videos. Also ezgz has some too. If you don’t have to rush the engine build take your time and wait to find the right answers. It’s harder where you are at cuz you have to wait for parts so that sucks. Only things I could think of was a bad bearing. Or crank journal? I would try to find a friend or shop who has a crank you could test fit or bearings. Do the old ones fit?
@@onehappykombi cool. For engines I think Darrin is more experienced but for vws in general I think Mike is good especially body work and rebuilding. But yeah if you can find some VW people in your area that is also good. Also try posting on the samba. Some people are really good at giving feedback right away. I haven’t posted in years but there were some guys that were really responsive and were able to help me figure some electrical stuff out.
Hopefully Mike has a suggestion, is it possible the dist gear is holding it up? I dunno much about vw engines but it has to be something simple - don't go to worst case scenario first
Hi. I m from Sweden so my spelling is't so good. Hope you understand what i meen. You need to messure the crank and bearings , now you can se how the bearings fit on the crank. Outside the case. Are the bearings flush with the case when you put them in , without the crank? The trust edge on the case you can grind down gentle. Hope this is some help to you.

I still have that other case, I will have it checked by a different professional
Do you still machine your own cases these days?

Thank you for the tip we will definitely check that

Seen that the bearing dowel pins are different measurements sometimes too tall and won't let the bearing sit all the way in place
I measured this and they were fine for this case but certainly a common issue! Thank you for your message!!
rear thrust machine work was the issue. He did find it at the end.
Nice catch on the case issue.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment

What I think it was is that step on the thrust surface
